AstraZeneca vaccine

Hi, I have to make an appointment to get my vaccine, I'll be getting the AstraZeneca vaccine and I am worried about the side effects. From reading threads on here it seems that this one has the worst side effects. I have severe anxiety and my mind is going into overdrive, just wondering if I can hear some positive stories concerning this vaccine.

I had AZ last week. I felt a little achy the next day, so had painkillers and then was fine. Thats about it.

nitsandwormsdodger · 02/03/2021 17:08

I had flu for a day would do it all over again to get vaccinated

Why are you living with anxiety ? No need to live miserably, ask your G.p for referral

SilverBirchWithout · 02/03/2021 17:26

The actual vaccination didn’t hurt at all, no sting at all. Easier than the flu jab.

OP when you get to the vaccination centre do let them know you are feeling very anxious.
My DH is needle phobic and has been known to faint when having blood tests (and when our DS was born - but that’s another story) He mentioned it at the pre-vaccine station at the centre, and was given VIP treatment - whisked away to a cubicle with a bed to lie down upon and and had a doctor in attendance and I was allowed to be with him. It was just the reassurance he needed as his fear is about fainting as much as the needle itself.

ZNation · 02/03/2021 17:47

Am I the only one who felt the jab scratch? I'm now wondering if it was done right as everyone says they can't feel it

NanuNanuM · 02/03/2021 17:51

I had it 4 weeks ago.
I took paracetamol before the jab (doctor friend told me to do that). I had it mid morning and was fine all day. Had a slight headache when I got in bed but fell asleep and was fine next day.

Good luck.

NanuNanuM · 02/03/2021 17:52

@znation - I felt it too. Not horrific and really quick.

QualityRoads · 02/03/2021 17:55

OP, I had it. No side effects at all and never even felt the needle. My DH had a mild reaction - he felt tired and a bit headachy the day after. We were in and out in a few minutes too, so no big fuss. The vaccinator told us that the AZ had fewer side effects than Pfeizer. Honestly, it's nothing to worry about.

Spodge · 02/03/2021 18:08

When I had the AZ the sore arm kicked in about an hour afterwards and lasted 3-4 days. Not badly sore, just noticeable if I moved it or touched it. Quite severe fatigue kicked in about 10 hours after the jab and lasted about 12 hours. Fortunately for me most of that was overnight, though oddly it didn't help me sleep. In fact I slept quite badly. No other symptoms and the tiredness left as quickly as it arrived.

DH had the AZ jab and had no symptoms other than a slightly tender arm.

Everyone else I know who has had it has had some sort of systemic symptoms with varying degrees of severity but none worse than a dose of flu and none lasting longer than two days. Most reports I've had have been of one day. If you can take the following day off or easy then make plans to do so.

And certainly not worse than actually contracting Covid19!

So @Kaylasmum49 are you reassured? Has this helped with your anxiety?

Kaylasmum49 · 03/03/2021 12:48

I've just booked my vaccine for Friday. Spoke to my gp who was very reassuring. Still a bit anxious but I know it's the right thing to do.

Thanks for all the encouraging replies.

Well done - feel proud of yourself

EarlGreywithLemon · 03/03/2021 13:03

Well done OP!

zafferana · 03/03/2021 13:11

Well done @Kaylasmum49! I had the AZ vaccine Monday pm and had about 24 hours of feeling a bit achy. I took paracetamol every six hours and that was sufficient. Today, I feel fine! So just have some paracetamol in and take it easy for 24 hours and hopefully you'll have a mild reaction too. You're doing the right thing Flowers

ApplesinmyPocket · 03/03/2021 13:24

I had the AstraZeneca yesterday, OP, it was all very quick and easy. I bought in ready-meals for the next two or three days in case I got the 'fluey' feeling some have spoken about - more than 24 hours later, my arm is very slightly tender and I feel a bit tired but that's it!

Still enjoyed not having to cook today though Smile

So glad you have booked yours.

GintyMcGinty · 03/03/2021 20:23

@Kaylasmum49

I had mine yesterday at 3pm. I have had no side affects at all.

Good luck.

lifeturnsonadime · 03/03/2021 21:22

I have had side effects but find it reassuring that I am developing immunity.

Plan for a lazy day the day after just in case.

Far better to have the jab with side effects than to get covid.

MRex · 03/03/2021 21:26

For Pfizer and Oxford AZ there have been 3-5 side effect reports per 1,000 vaccines, which is roughly similar to every other vaccine offered in the UK.
You are most likely to get a sore arm. Have a paracetamol if you get a temperature or a headache. For most people it seems to not be too bad and usually all over in 1-2 days.

FishWithoutABike · 03/03/2021 21:27

I had it a few weeks ago. Zero symptoms.

Magic1231 · 03/03/2021 21:37

Totally empathize with your health anxiety.
I had my vaccine earlier today, obviously too soon to say if side effects will develop but my mum and dad also had it a few weeks ago and my dad had no side effects at all and my mum just felt like she was coming down with something the following day, but all ot calls for is a little resting on the sofa. You will be fine Smile xxx

Stickytreacle · 04/03/2021 08:10

I had mine yesterday, just a slightly sore arm, but milking it to hopefully avoid housework for a day Wink

fussychica · 04/03/2021 09:13

DH and I both had AZ on Monday lunchtime. Both had a fairly restless night and a slightly sore arm. I had a headache which went after 2 paracetamol and 3 hours sleep.
Went out for our usual walk later in the day. Pleasantly surprised by how limited the side effects were.
Our neighbour had his the day after us. No side effects at all.
Good luck OP.

fussychica · 04/03/2021 09:13

He go a sticker, we didn't Sad
