When would you say a lockdown is over?

The Mail (sorry!) have had the same lockdown ticker going for about a year now. But I would argue we were not in lockdown for some of that time. Also there has been 3 distinct lockdowns though I know some people have been under quite a lot of restrictions the whole time.
DH has a lockdown beard which he says he will only shave when lockdown is over. I tentatively suggested 8th as the schools go back but he said 21st June Shock

For me it’ll be when I can swim again. So 26 April here in Scotland (cheers Nicola).

poppycat10 · 28/02/2021 19:49

@AnneElliott

I'd say 29th March when the stay at home guidance is lifted. That way I can go anywhere that's open and available.
I agree.
fluffi · 28/02/2021 20:33

For me Lockdown is over when advice changes from "Stay At Home" to "Be Alert" or whatever they come up with this time as we're not locked up at home anymore, and most businesses are open even if socially distant, e.g. non-essential retail.

So 12th April if everything goes to plan.

Frozenintime · 28/02/2021 21:47

It's pretty much going to fall apart on 8 March

ArosGartref · 28/02/2021 22:46

I also consider 'lockdown' to be aligned with the stay at home rules. So that's happened 3 times (March, November & December in Wales)

Dolciedolly · 28/02/2021 23:07

What is this about stay at home order ends ?

ArosGartref · 28/02/2021 23:14

It's due to end on 29th March in England @dolciedolly. Assuming case numbers stay low.

Hcolhcsra · 28/02/2021 23:16

20 kids playing football in the park together, neighbour had 3 sets of visitors in one day plus has been out twice. I'd say most folks around here think it's already over.

yomellamoHelly · 28/02/2021 23:20

When schools go back, though since the announcement loads of kids have seen that as a green light to meet up around here. Don't blame them tbh.

HalfPastThree · 28/02/2021 23:21

When all the legal restrictions are gone. You can still have quite a lot of social distancing, but if it’s voluntary, and not mandated by the state, you’re out of lockdown.

MummaPI · 28/02/2021 23:27

Looks like it has ended already where I live! Angry

Incogweeto · 01/03/2021 00:00

I believe any meaningful lockdown ends on 8 March when the schools go back. You can't have 10 million mixing daily (plus lots of their families) and call it lockdown, that's just silly.

Beaniecats · 01/03/2021 00:11

End of all restrictions and our freedoms rights and liberties restored is the end. Anything else isn't acceptable

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 01/03/2021 00:13

I've noticed a dramatic change in people meeting up outside. It is quite worrying. I think the gov need to act now, to reinforce that we are still in lockdown. A van going round the local parks, using a PA system would be a start. My neighbours had friends over on two different occasions. I know someone who travelled out of town to see his mother/large family. Lots of teenagers playing basketball/footy together, groups of people drinking. The message is clear to those of us who care enough, but to others they need stark reminders.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/03/2021 00:15

It's a 2 parter for me:

  1. When I've been vaccinated (already have) as I then personally feel safe
  1. When I don't have to wear a mask - I avoid shops if I have to - I HATE them
RedcurrantPuff · 01/03/2021 00:18

@hennybeans

The "stay at home" order comes to an end in England on 29 March. That's when lockdown ends in my opinion because we are free to go anywhere, although still have to follow rules regarding seeing others.
This is what I think, people are conflating “lockdown” and “restrictions”.

We’ve had restrictions for a year but not all of it been in lockdown, that’s my take.

MercyBooth · 01/03/2021 00:22

Good @TheUnquestionedAnswer They can start with EON.

As EON have decided lockdown is over.

We are on a pre payment meter. We have ALWAYS kept it well topped up. We were told to make double sure of it at the start of the first lockdown. So we did. But two months ago EON got hacked. People couldnt top up on the app or with keys or cards. Our key took the money in the shop but it wouldnt go on the meter. EON were telling people to keep going round different shops to try and get new keys making a mockery of stay at home. They also told DH to let the shop assistant use his mobile so they could talk him through it. In a pandemic None of the shops we tried had a key so EON sent one out to us. NOW here is where they change their tune on the aforementioned personal responsibility. NOW we have to run our electric right down before we try the new key as it may wipe out what is already on the meter. We are nearly there but what if the new key doesnt work. They have already left a disabled man without electric for five days. They kept sending someone else blank cards.

If they are done................so am i #nojuicenojab

seepingweeping · 01/03/2021 00:42

When we are all vaccinated.

I'm not sure what you mean by this post. Are you saying you won't have the vaccine if EON don't sort out your account? I'm not sure what you think is the connection between the two ?
MercyBooth · 01/03/2021 01:37

Being left without electric by a negligent company is also a public health hazard. Keeping clean during a pandemic is pretty important. Its not a account issue. Its being left with no electric and a public health issue
There are ill people who are on machinery at home who would then have to go to hospital while we are supposed to be protecting the NHS.

MercyBooth · 01/03/2021 01:38

Once you have seen that its really about protecting our "betters" and not protecting each other, you cant unsee it

ChameleonClara · 01/03/2021 04:20

@seepingweeping

When we are all vaccinated.
Children won't be vaccinated until 2022 at the earliest.
Chunkymenrock · 01/03/2021 05:22

You need to look at your government's website for the official information rather than ask a bunch of random on the Internet, many of whom think it's fine to make it up to suit themselves.

garlictwist · 01/03/2021 05:33

I live in a university town. All the students are here despite the unis being closed. There is no lockdown for them and never has been. This weekend in the good weather was like a music festival in the park - hundreds of them in huge groups drinking and there all night. (I live opposite). Nothing has changed here and there's never been any social distancing or interest in policing it.
I'm always surprised on here to read how strictly people are taking it, dobbing their neighbours in for having a friend round. It must be very different elsewhere.

I was simply musing when I could say lockdown was over so DH would shave! Nothing more serious.
