Logically today we are not allowed to sit on our garden with a friend
And in a few months we can stand in a field with thousands of people
Do we think it's worth buying tickets at all?

Nice bit of cherry picking there!

Click on this link and look at the graphs. Take up has been extremely high on the whole. Saying refusal is 'massive' is just false.

That piece reads as propaganda, it's meaningless showing how many have been vaccinated if we can't see how many are eligible.

ChameleonClara · 28/02/2021 19:53

We can't get anywhere near herd immunity until there is an approved child vaccine. But yes, take up is likely to be below the required level amongst adults anyway.

Raera · 28/02/2021 19:53

Well Reading, Leeds and End of the Road are all fully booked.
Just booked Latitude, really don't want to miss out if it does go ahead.
This will fingers crossed be our eighth time there.

I don't think there's much point continuing this discussion as you seem determined to think what you want to think - and in any case it's off topic here - but the article gives % of different groups who have received the vaccin, with graphs included.

"Within England and Wales, there has been some regional variation in the vaccination rollout - but everywhere except Wales and London have now jabbed 95% or more of people aged 70 or above with their first dose. Scotland has done the same."

Your claims of 'massive' refusal are nonsense and unworthy of further discussion.

A close relative is a scientist who models pandemic outbreaks etc. He believes that with the proposed timescales for coming out of this lockdown (i.e it's all a bit too much, too soon), it's highly likely that we will see a 4th wave over the summer.
So no, I wouldn't hold my breath.

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 28/02/2021 20:04

@ChameleonClara

I feel we are headed for a mad summer, and then another crappy winter Sad

Government modelling has cases rising from September, certainly these festivals should help it along.

I agree. My suspicion is that a new strain will hit. Spread around when we are all freely mixing again towards the end of summer and then we will lockdown again in Autumn.

Dd and her friends booked today

If all goes wrong they have a week in an Airbnb caravan

Dolciedolly · 28/02/2021 23:01

@icantthinkofanamehelp

I think people are in for a shock that our lives will get back to some kind of normal We cant have restrictions for ever. We can't all indefinitely avoid this virus. It was never about stopping people getting it and keeping people ' safe ' It was about stopping the NHS collapsing

We also can't restrict forever because of the risk of variants

😡
Dolciedolly · 28/02/2021 23:02

@icantthinkofanamehelp sorry wrong emoji I agree with you 👍🏻

Dolciedolly · 28/02/2021 23:02

@TrustTheGeneGenie 😂😂😂😂😂

CocoSims · 28/02/2021 23:54

I think it’s disgusting. We all want to have fun but ffs the NHS are literally just starting to come out of this, most of them have ptsd and this is what we offer up?? It’s a fucking joke.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 01/03/2021 00:04

I really really love a good Festival. Best thing ever for me
But not a cat in hells chance I'd risk it this year.
I can see how teens and students really want that rite of passage but it's going to spread like wildfire among them and they'll then take it back home.
Will it really be the same anyway?
Socially distanced mosh pit anyone?

MixedUpFiles · 01/03/2021 00:08

For me this falls into, just because it might be allowed, doesn’t mean it’s wise.

Most of the NHS have PTSD? Any sources for this?
ChameleonClara · 01/03/2021 04:49

There has been widespread coverage of the issue of PTSD amongst NHS staff, the term 'most' is not accurate but 'almost half' is in relation to ICU : e.g. www.personneltoday.com/hr/four-in-10-intensive-care-staff-experiencing-ptsd/

The expectation is a lot of stress-related sick leave and resignations. The costs of UK failure go far beyond the astounding number of covid deaths.

ChameleonClara · 01/03/2021 04:55

Also regarding the piss taking upthread towards the person whose academic relative talked of an August wave - SAGE modelling on an unlocking regime similar (not identical) has a wave from September. Is a single month that far out of line? The government have unlocked earlier than the scenario modelled.

The impacts of waves will be different due to adult vaccination of course, but the rising deaths in the government modelling had the vaccination program factored in.

Bythemillpond · 01/03/2021 13:38

CovoidOfAllHumanity
All of dd and ds’s friends have had it so are immune to getting it.

Dd had what we believe was Covid in December 2019. Last December she was working closely with a group of people. No social distancing and hugging and kissing each other as a greeting. One person brought Covid into the group and spread it around to everyone with the exception of dd and one other girl who had Covid a few months before.

I think the immunity lasts a lot longer than a few months.

Darnley · 01/03/2021 13:53

We have tickets for rebellion in August, rolled over from last year....I am in the camp of let us get on with living. Enough is enough.
