Astrazeneca covid vaccination side effects.

Had my first astrazeneca jab this morning at 11am, everything was great. In and out of the surgery in under ten minutes. Went straight out for a long walk in the glorious sunshine, arrived home around forty minutes later feeling fabulous. However as the day has progressed my arm is really, really sore which I expected, can't raise it at all, too much discomfort. Since around 7 pm I've been feeling shivery and shaky.........similar to flu symptoms I guess. I've been online and these are recognised side effects.

Should I take a couple of paracetamol to shake it off, or just wait for it to pass on in the next day or two?

Get a grip. Way better than an unpredictable reaction to actual Covid.

And you need a passport to go on holiday.

@Parkerwhereareyou - who is that post aimed at? We are just comparing notes on side effects.

Itisasecret · 03/04/2021 08:23

I had quite a big reaction to mine 2 and a half weeks ago. My period is now 2 days late and I have horrific cramping like it’s wanting to start but can’t.

I’m sterilised so shouldn’t be pregnant. I had my tubes clipped. Has anyone had this issue?

Sorry - I didn't mean to come across so harshly.

I just feel that some people are almost or actually put off having the vaccine as scared by tales of the side effects.

I was really scared by them and shaking really with fear when I had it, and also psychologically after the past year it felt a really big deal. I'm on my own with my young daughter and was literally lying there after reading these kind of threads and wondering if I even dared go to sleep.

So sorry, didn't mean to be mean - I just flicked over the posts and it sounded like a lot of making a big deal out of it, but of course yes it's interesting and in some ways reassuring.

Carrotcakefiend · 05/04/2021 01:10

I had mine this morning. Felt fine until about 5pm and then went downhill with flu symptoms; headache, uncontrollable cold and shivering, feeling horrible. Went to bed early, woke up 4 hours later and was sick a lot Sad

Now lying in bed hoping that's the worst of it.

Carrotcakefiend · 05/04/2021 01:12

Also had moderately bad covid last march, and was exposed but no symptoms in Jan 21. Maybe my antibodies are thinking 'not this again, let's knock the sh*t out of it'

Quit4me · 05/04/2021 01:19

Bliming heck- what other vaccine makes you horrible shivery and cold and makes you throw up? Never had a vaccine make me do that?

Carrotcakefiend · 05/04/2021 02:48

@Quit4me I know right? Weird, weird disease. I also probs didn't help today though, I ate a lot of chocolate fudge cake and half a bottle of prosecco for lunch Easter Grin

Northernsoulgirl45 · 05/04/2021 07:27

Most people I know felt a bit tired and had a headache the day after ir no side effects. One friend had more prolonged symptoms but the difference is that she had COVID before. Wonder if this is somehow related.

Floobydo · 05/04/2021 07:54

Just to offset this a bit, I had my jab on Wednesday and have had zero side effects. I fit all the criteria for having them - young, female, have had Covid - but my arm didn’t even really hurt. I did take paracetamol before the jab and then regularly afterwards for 24 hours... possibly that made a difference and I will do the same again for my second dose.

I wonder if in part we’re just not used to having vaccinations as adults. When we give them to babies we know to give calpol, expect them to have a temperature etc. We maybe just forgot to expect the same for us as adults being vaccinated!

TiggerSnoozer · 05/04/2021 08:01

My OH had his first AZ jab nearly 2 weeks ago and has had quite prolonged effects. Mostly headaches and feeling a bit feverish initially, but the longer effect have been brain fog and what he describes to be like delirium (his brain going off on one) to the point where he just feels really weird and unable to concentrate. He had 5 days when he thought it had gone but been back for the last 2-3. He thinks he probably had Covid in April last year and says the headaches post vaccine were identical - but antibody tests were negative so not sure.

LouH1981 · 05/04/2021 16:39

@TiggerSnoozer Oooh you’re post is very interesting! I came to this thread because I had my AZ jab on Wed, was poorly on Thursday (fever, chills) and although I don’t feel flu like anymore I am absolutely exhausted. I have a 15 month old so this feeling isn’t completely alien to me except my husband got up to her last night and let me sleep so I got a good 10 hours! I can barely keep my eyes open. I believe I had COVID from Dec 19 to March 20 and similarly the effect of the vaccine was similar to how I felt. I had/have full confidence in the whole vaccine concept but part of me is a bit nervous now.
I guess we just have to wait it out 🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope your husband feels better soon.

Emma2021 · 06/04/2021 20:53

My mom had the Astra vaccine several weeks ago. She is over 60.
About 30 mins after the jab got tingling in jab arm traveller to her head then legs and went away gradually by 4 and half ours - she layed down intially slept 30 mins next hour over the worse - this was a few weeks ago. Anyone else had similar?

Parkerwhereareyou · 08/04/2021 09:36

Well now after all this talk, I'm conscious of every minute fxxkkng platelet floating around inside my blood vessels and praying they're not going to stick together in a horrid clump and burst my brain 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😶😶😶😶

So should we risk the second jab? I might only be here till up to two weeks after 29 May then 😱. .... enjoy me up until then🥺

I'm not being flippant. And certainly not given the suffering others have already been through with actual Covid. This is a very significant change to how we've been seeing it. :(

Willyoujustbequiet · 08/04/2021 09:44

I had bleeding from my gums and nosebleeds which I've never had before. My gp flagged it.

I dont want the 2nd dose

Spied · 08/04/2021 09:45

Getting my second AZ tomorrow.
I don't know what to think....

bearandowl · 08/04/2021 12:40

Since getting the AZ jab last month dh has been getting headaches. First time I've known him to get headaches in our 30 year marriage. He also has cramps in his legs.

MrsPworkingmummy · 08/04/2021 12:47

@Willyoujustbequiet it's really interesting you say that as my gums were really sore and swollen from day 3 to 6 after the jab. I still can't fully 'bite' as the inside of my right cheek is inflamed. I've never had even a filling or issues with my teeth so I definitely put it down to the jab

LouH1981 · 08/04/2021 14:41

@bearandowl I’d ring 111 or your GP just to be on the safe side. They thought I had a blood clot when I was pregnant in 2019 with DS and the arterial gas test that they used to check was straight forward and relatively painless. Hope he is ok x

bearandowl · 09/04/2021 10:05

@LouH1981. Thanks. I'm glad your arterial gas test went well

GPs are apparently now getting many more people reporting headaches and other symptoms after the AZ jab.

confusedfriday · 09/04/2021 17:12

Healthy woman in her 30s here... have had a jab because of my work.
Obvs very nervous due to current controversy.
Had AZ yesterday, today very achy arm and muscles. Same shivers and chills that I had from natural Covid infection. Waiting for it to pass... very annoying, even though it’s a normal reaction to a vaccine.

BLT102 · 15/04/2021 09:27

Hi,
I had the astrazeneca jab Tuesday afternoon and didn’t think much if it. It was pretty painful to have and felt like they injected into my shoulder joint at the time but was ok... then woke up the next day and felt terrible! I’ve never truly had flu but my whole body was aching and my arm... well it feels like someone’s smashed a hammer into my shoulder! I’m really good with pain normally but this injection has thrown me for six!

My symptoms seem pretty normal... shivery, cold, fever, shaking, but also feel a bit wheezy and day 2 now a little better but feels like a hangover when waking up... hopefully the last day and will go away 😞

LouH1981 · 15/04/2021 10:33

@BLT102 Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling rough. My ‘fluey’ symptoms lasted a couple of days. My arm hurt for another 2/3 days (it was that bad I struggled to hold my baby) and then I felt exhausted for about 10 days or so. I was vaccinated on 31st and it’s only really been in the last couple of days I have felt ‘normal’. (I say normal because I have a 6 year old and a baby so exhaustion is a trend at the moment!) It did feel like it would never end but it did. Hopefully just our bodies doing what they need to do. Hope you feel better soon xx

poppycat10 · 15/04/2021 11:07

I did take paracetamol before the jab and then regularly afterwards for 24 hours... possibly that made a difference and I will do the same again for my second dose

I also took some paracetamol before I went, and told DH to do the same. Other than feeling a bit tired the next day he was absolutely fine so I am hoping it will work for me too.

We are told to give babies Calpol before their vaccinations, so it seemed like a good idea for adults too :)

Anyway I will report back in a few days to say if it worked.

Farmer5505 · 15/04/2021 12:16

Bliming heck- what other vaccine makes you horrible shivery and cold and makes you throw up? Never had a vaccine make me do that?

I was thinking that! I've had so many vaccines (for travel) that I've lost count but never had any reaction other than a slightly sore arm after typhoid jabs.
