To wonder why covid cases are still so high?

I didn’t really know where else to post this but it’s really just a nosey post! If you’ve had covid in 2021 I’m wondering where did you get it from? Supermarket? Hospital? Or another place of work? This post really isn’t meant to be judgemental I’m just wondering! I’m a secondary school teacher and hoping beyond hope that cases take a dramatic plummet between now and the 8th of March as I was disappointed the cases were still at 10,000 today!

People keep saying that but it is just as strict as the first lockdown

It certainly doesn't trees as strict though. There are definitely more people around and the roads are much busier.

My school have far more children in school taking up their places this lockdown. More of the parents are out at work it,would seem.

Dh was wfh full time in lockdown 1 and rarely going out. This time he is working from the office twice a week, like in the autumn, and is seeing clients - albeit stood in the garden or sat at a distance if inside.

The playgrounds are all open this time and are being used in large numbers here, which also means large number of adults in the parks, surrounding them too.

It's definitely far busier out and about this lockdown ime.

I also think most people can gauge a reasonably good idea of where they were likely picked it up. They only need to look at their last week's movements usually and who they've been near.

I can make a very good judgement of where I picked it up based on who I'd seen beforehand and where I'd been. I hadn't been to supermarkets and places with lots of strangers milling about. I was using the app everywhere bar work so any confirmed cases should have flagged on that. I know that covid was definitely going round the workplace in some form. So, it is a fair assumption as to where it came from.

I suspect most people are similar in being able to,identify who and where they've been in the past 1-2 weeks.

We haven’t had COVID (that we know of) but our lives haven’t really changed during this lockdown. Dh works in manufacturing and is required to turn up for work every day. I work in Early years, so in very close contact with several small children each day with no ppe. Because I am a critical worker, the dc are entitled to school places, so two out of 3 are in. Older dc is at home and that is the only difference in our Families day to day life.

COVID is spreading partly because We are not the only family in the country in this position. During the first lockdown, march to May last year, we were all at home throughout.

Lockdown has done a great job of preventing flu deaths this year. Should we lock down every winter to prevent them going forward?
No. Flu has, generally, a lower level of death and post viral issues from what I've read. It is usually more controlled than covid has been. It certainly hasn't had the same level of deaths as covid has throughout a year.

We also already have a vaccine for flu so we should be encouraging more people to take this up, and to have it at the start of the system. Surgeries need to be able to,access flu vaccines earlier than they often currently do - we need to look at what causes the stock delays to prevent them. No one should be having to wait until December time to get their flu jab.

We should also encourage people who are unwell (remember like all vaccines flu comes in different strengths so can be mild or severe) to stay home - maybe the fact that many people have now proved they can wfh can help assist this. Certainly people with a virus of any for should be encouraged to maintain high hand hygiene and to distance from other people. It may also be considered that wearing a mask if you've got a cold or virus could be more common place.
