Why havent they prioritised frontline workers over 60 year olds getting the vaccination?

I totally understand that those with underlying health issues and the elderly needed to be vaccinated first. But what I dont understand is why over 60s are now being vaccinated and frontline workers are not? In less than 2 weeks time all children return to school. Nothing has changed in schools since September, and myself and colleagues will spend our days in small classrooms with 32 children just waiting for the infection and circles of self isolating bubbles to start again. Yet lots of my friends in their early 60s have now been vaccinated. They do not have health issues, a lot of them arent even working. Most of them spend all day at home, not really seeing anyone. Yet frontline workers have spent the last year working, risking their health, for no benefit whatsoever. Angry

@tumpymummy

It wont, but a vaccination does mean that teachers wouldn't come to school every day scared that they are going to catch covid-19.
WHY are you scared??????? I cannot understand this inability for any risk assessment or critical thinking. Unless you’re over 60 or ill, you will probably barely know you have Covid? I mean, yes there is A small risk you may get a bad illness, but on the balance of risk, it seems minor compared to the risks we take every day in our lives 🙄

@Howshouldibehave

No I want the teachers cracking on

What exactly do you want teachers to do, when you say they need to ‘crack on’?

Simply teach.

Right, just like they’ve been doing then?

I saw one of the government scientists on the news. He was saying the main reason for doing based on age is that they can get through the vaccines quicker. If they have it based on occupation it’s much more complicated to work out who is eligible as it can’t just be teachers it would need to be ta’s, and non school staff like supermarket workers, police, bus drivers etc etc. Age is simple and they can just blast through the lists which will hopefully then mean everyone has first dose by July. My friend has quite a good job in the nhs and said early indications are showing the vaccine does reduce transmission so it’s better for everyone the more people that get vaccinated in total

Add the context and stop being a bore.

Do it by age. Adding various job just adds additional bureaucracy to it and slows it down.

The GP on Breakfast this morning suggested running teachers etc as a priority alongside age - like they did health and care staff - so they can still blast through. Sounds pretty sensible!

I do wonder why so many mums on here are alienating those in whom they are entrusting the education, care and development of their children for 5 days a week!
