Should we be thanking the government/Matt Hancock's team?

Just seen the interview doing the rounds between Matt and Piers Morgan this morning on GMB. Matt Hancock was 'exasperated' that his team weren't getting the thanks for all their efforts and Piers Morgan refused to because they made mistakes.

Aren't we at the point now, where we do need to thank Matt Hancock and the government? They've done so well on the vaccines and now we have a genuine road map out of this crisis.

Spot the Tory Bot.

ComDummings · 23/02/2021 13:14

🤣

Helmetbymidnight · 23/02/2021 13:15

Thank you for the 120,000 dead AND a smashed economy, Hmm

O-kayyy

IpanemaNova · 23/02/2021 13:16

Nope. Too many mistakes last year that cost thousands of lives. Billions to mates instead of health professionals.

Plexie · 23/02/2021 13:19

They've done so well on the vaccines

Genuine question: who has done well? Who is organising the vaccine roll-out: the Govt/Dept of Health or the NHS?

The vaccine roll-out is about the only thing that has gone well - everything else the Govt has introduced is half-arsed.

BiggerBoat1 · 23/02/2021 13:21

Thank you for being the most corrupt and inept Government we have ever had.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 23/02/2021 13:22

Ffs🙄

noblegiraffe · 23/02/2021 13:23

Matt Hancock who was just found to have acted unlawfully over government contracts?

Biscuit

No, no thanks to Matt Hancock and team for a thoroughly below average job.

Watching him trying to outdo Piers Morgan is pretty funny though.

Lemons1571 · 23/02/2021 13:29

Should be convicting them. All bloody criminals.

Simple things like masks for all secondary pupils from the start, not introduced a year later as a sweetener/bargaining tool to shut the unions up.

Not spending a penny on state schools to make them safer.

And what’s all this about removing all asthmatics from from groups 6 so it’s easier for them to meet their May target?

I have no doubt on 31st July, a few million texts will be sent out to the rest of the adults that haven’t been offered a jab. They won’t be able to actually book a jab, cos there’ll be a 3 month long waiting list. But the government will be able to say “we’ve offered”.

Crooks. Thanks for the 120k dead, that we won’t mention again as “we need to move onwards and upwards”.

MrsMackesy · 23/02/2021 13:31

Absolutely not. They are responsible for many, many, many more deaths of loved ones than was necessary. Their handling of the pandemic has been shameful, embarrassing and shambolic.

For the vaccines, I will thank the scientists, NHS and volunteers - and the public for the fantastic uptake so far.

They got their orders in early which has saved our summer.

Credit where credits due - the vaccine roll out has been impressive. However, asking to be heaped with praise is rather like seeing a house on fire, chucking more on petrol on it, and then expecting to be praised because you phoned the fire brigade.

AlexaShutUp · 23/02/2021 13:41

No. We have one of the highest death rates in the world, despite having had one of the strictest lockdowns. The whole thing has been terribly mismanaged.

480Widdio · 23/02/2021 13:41

Thank Matt Hancock!! What madness is this!!

Definitely not.

Don't get me wrong, I do think if the government want the credit for what has gone well, they need to take the blame for what has gone wrong. They can't have it both ways. They can't spin away all the mistakes and then have Matt Hancock demanding thanks now.

dividedwefall · 23/02/2021 13:45

Thanking them for what, exactly?

The worst lock downs and one of the highest death rates in the world, along with a crushed economy?

The inability to get anything right, whilst funneling billions to their mates?

The psychological war they have waged on the British public, with millions still too scared to pass a jogger on the pavement?

Hilarious.

ZenNudist · 23/02/2021 13:45

I can't imagine any other government could have done a worse job. Indeed none other has. We are top of the death league. Do they want thanks for that?

Given we are a rich developed country I expect us to be doing well with vaccine roll out. It's a shame we couldn't have applied that to keeping the virus down initially or test and trace or not stuffing up education.

The Tory party are sickening. Rich getting richer and everyone else can do one.

Ponoka7 · 23/02/2021 13:45

We should be grateful for the 10 year systematic underfunding of the NHS? I'll thank all those responsible for getting the vaccine rollout up and running and keeping it going. Likewise all those in the testing centres etc. The government relies on the good will, dedication and vocation of those in services and essential shops, who they've attacked via the benefit changes and austerity. Those who work in lower care services are the very people the government thought should 'just work harder' to get out of poverty. Matt Hancock told a front line doctor to 'watch her tone' mid pandemic, then lied about his Grandfather dying, like he gave a shit about someone he barely knew dying in a Liverpool care home and we shouldn't get past that. I've never appreciated my Iceland delivery man enough and I thank him. The government can gtf.

Thank fuck MH watched Contagion. We've got the producers and the director to thank then.

Hancock et al probably need to fess up to their failures before they get congratulated for the NHS' successes. If they hadn't got it badly wrong in the first place, we wouldn't need to get the vaccine rolled out quite so urgently now. Though I do think Hancock is one of the more effective cabinet ministers.

The have a fast and loose attitude to procurement. This has turned out well for the vaccines, just buy them all at whatever cost, but it's the scientists that I'm thankful for.
