People doing these things already

Yesterday I was walking through the local park and saw a group of about six people sitting together having a picnic...so clearly people are already doing the things set out in the ‘roadmap’

OP posts:

@LindaEllen
No I would not be breaking the law because my family is who I live with !

Yes, everyone is doing these things and more already. I am not.

So, cases probably won’t move too much.

OliveTree75 · 23/02/2021 11:46

@Silverthorny

I have stopped obsessing over whether or not people are flouting rules. They probably are and I hate them. In fact, I hate most adult humans. I don’t want lockdown to end, and I’d much rather steer clear of other people.
Enjoy.
Delatron · 23/02/2021 11:46

Cases will not rise because people are meeting for picnics outside.

Did you see all the research on the packed beaches last year? No evidence of spread.

pommedeterre · 23/02/2021 11:47

The roadmap for March is really only schools and sports opening. The other bit is irrelevant in real, actual life as far as I can see round here!

Iamblossom · 23/02/2021 11:49

I do get irritated when I hear that radio advert saying "are you meeting one person to exercise or socialise?" It is actually possible to do both.... Hmm I run with a friend for example. It's been my saviour.

Orangeblossom1977 · 23/02/2021 11:51

We have these Covid marshalls in the park now. Seems to be a new thing. Fluorescent jackets. I thought what a job to have

Well you would, because at the moment we are in lockdown and you are only allowed out for exercise and some other reasons, having a picnic is not one of them.

I have met with a friend for "exercise" and ended up having a coffee and a sandwich on a park bench, which we are not allowed to do, but will be allowed shortly, so I am not "telling you off" but jus pointing out that having a picnic is not currently "allowed", whoever you have it with.

It was the same when the relaxations came after the first lockdown, people were already doing most of the things they were now allowed to do, so in many cases were a bit confused about what was being relaxed.

Silverthorny · 23/02/2021 11:56

@SnowyBranches people aren’t confused. They know what they are doing, are self serving, disingenuous and generally shit.

simbobs · 23/02/2021 11:57

Since outdoor outlets selling food and drink are present in our park, and not really the kind of thing packed up to take home, it must be the case that some councils are condoning or even encouraging social gathering. So the OP is quite right that some of the next phase is already happening. However, it is the school opening that will make the difference to infection levels, not the people occupying a park bench for 10 minutes in the presence of another person of their acquaintance. Let's see what happens then.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 23/02/2021 12:00

Ah yes, the rules start to loosen and those that have been chained to the strictest form don't know what to do with themselves anymore. The unravelling is beginning.

Londontown12 · 23/02/2021 12:00

@SnowyBranches
Just so u know I haven’t been on a picnic 🧺
I have stuck to rules all the way throu because I’ve had to just saying people shouldn’t judge what others are doing x

Yeah I'd just stay indoors if I were you anyway. Save the rest of us
Spillanelle · 23/02/2021 12:26

DH, DD and I are planning a nice walk at the weekend, and are going to take a picnic with us if the weather is nice. I know that the rule is that you have to keep moving, but I don’t care any more, it’s nonsense, nobody is going to die because I choose to sit on the floor and have some sandwiches with my husband and daughter.

Doubt you’ll be missed out in the world TBH with that attitude. Probably best you stay at home. I can’t get worked up about people doing an extremely low risk activity. I took my kids to the park yesterday. There were 2 other families from their school there. The kids played together in the fresh air (while 60% of their peers were sat in classrooms) and the adults sat on benches at a 2m distance from each other and chatted.

'Generally shit' for having a picnic 😂 You need to grow up.

ClaudiaWankleman · 23/02/2021 12:32

Hear hear. Although I admire your bravery at sitting on the floor. Around here you'd sink into 10 centimetres of mud!

SeldomFollowedIt · 23/02/2021 12:34

Of course they are. The government knew they were/are on borrowed time. Lots of people meeting indoors now too after their parents vaccinations etc. We did a year which was long enough.

HelloMissus · 23/02/2021 12:36

I don’t want to sit and eat a scotch egg in February but I’m pretty certain that those who do pose no threat whatsoever to public health.

Wherediditgo · 23/02/2021 12:38

Nobody cares anymore OP.
Leave them at it.

Have you nothing better to do?

People are all those things for sitting down away from others and having something to eat......Shock
Calm down a little.

Ps was it a picnic or an M&S picnic

Silverthorny · 23/02/2021 12:56

Well luckily my DM had her cancer operation just before the second lockdown. Amazing NHS surgeon battled tirelessly to save her - for 5 hours non stop. She now has a stoma, which, due to delays is unlikely to be reversed. She will have this for the rest of her life. My DM has stuck religiously to the guidelines, and EVERY time I see someone thinking they know better than the government advice, I hate humans that little bit more. Because that ideology is precisely why people have died unnecessarily, and why my mum will be incapacitated. But so long as you and your little ones have a nice time, that’s ok. I’ll remember that each time I change her stoma bag when she’s 90.

Silverthorny · 23/02/2021 12:59

It’s a horrible mutating virus. My niece, having been told to self isolate from school, developed a PIMS type reaction with a very high temperature. But - of course - we all know better. No need to be cautious.
