We cannot persist indefinitely with restrictions that have separated families and loved ones for too long, and threatened the livelihoods of millions, and kept pupils out of school.

Finally some sense. So glad this is the message from the government now.

To be fair Boris did lead the way in world leaders contracting Covid! Although not so good he ended up in ICU

Me or you wouldn't have ended up in ICU, we'd have been told to stay at home and take paracetamol.

That’s unfair. I think he got so ill as he didn’t go to I C U earlier and was struggling at home alone too long.

Me or you wouldn't have ended up in ICU

Plenty of people end up in ICU (unfortunately for them) if they’ve got Covid badly enough Confused

The government has undoubtedly made mistakes, but the vaccine rollout has been a huge success and the roadmap sounds sensible.

Why, because I said the government have made mistakes but have also got some things right? Confused

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/02/2021 12:54

I don’t think public pressure would have allowed them to not lock down

I agree completely, dongdingdong, but then the mass panic has been a big part of the problem all along. Admittedly we didn't know originally that the CFR would be so low so caution was needed, but in time a lot of it turned into competitive winding-up, driven by social media and the need for another scary headline to fill 24/7 news

Luckily (and since good news is no news at all) the media will move on when this starts to fade, and then the doomongering will turn to the lasting damage, with endless cries of "we shouldn't have done it!!" - much of it no doubt coming from those who pushed for lockdowns in the first place

Porcupineintherough · 23/02/2021 14:11

Ah yes, mass panic. If only people would accept their loved ones dying quietly at home and just bury them in the back garden. This insistence on medical care is sooo unseemly Hmm. Oxygen? What will they be wanting next, golden slippers?

AlecTrevelyan006 · 23/02/2021 14:14

It’s not perfect, but no other country in the West has a clear, detailed exit strategy from the Covid nightmare as the UK.

There gonna be bumps of course. But, unless variants & Co ruin the plans and despite the supposed “slowness”, the UK is poised to be back to “normality” much earlier than others.

wonderstuff · 23/02/2021 14:40

Has anyone anywhere ever suggested we should indefinitely live under restrictions?

I do think that the road map is good, be better if the government adequately supported people to abide by the restrictions, but it seems to have a sound scientific basis.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/02/2021 14:55

Classic strawman argument I'm afraid, since the only bit of that which has been suggested is the basic fact that people die

That said, I do agree that expecting anything other than emergency treatment may come to be seen unseemly - especially when Boris and the cronies have finished picking bits off the skeleton

Except that Apple and Google had systems in place that could have delivered a track and trace system that other countries took advantage of. The U.K. went alone in trying to develop its own system so Cummings could give it to his mates. By the time they backtracked no one trusted them.

people won't uses them or disable them

Prob is, many people cannot afford to isolate and lose 2 weeks pay... potentially again and again.

Last week i was in a bank back office, there was a sign that said "Remember to disable your NHS app before starting work"

My former company won't pay sick pay for nhs app isolations, its a very big and profitable company.

Another example of where they didn’t think things through. If they delivered a decent track and trace system, they should have had a system to ensure that it was in the company’s interest to send home sick staff.

@Magnificentmug12

You can’t compare us to other countries, we are densely populated and we are recording all covid deaths including ones that die within 28 days of a test even if it’s something else that gets them!

I do t believe for a second China and other countries are reporting their deaths properly.

Agree

Dongdingdong · 23/02/2021 20:40

I simply don’t believe this. As if a bank (or any reputable employer) would have a sign on the wall saying that!

Sorry but i was there and you weren't.... typical tory arrogance... there was also zero social distancing and when i raised this with NCR (the contractor) i was told it was "the covid world we all live in"

Now though you might be too blinkered to see why but i do, staff would be very close but separated by screens, to customers, some for longer periods, the bank won't staff off work isolating for no reason.

Sign was on desk side not wall.

TwoPupsAndaHamster · 23/02/2021 23:17

"I've just been shaking hands with covid patients, Hur Hur Hur"

OMG! I’ve tested positive for Covid! How did that happen? 😱

One year on.... Never mind my past errors of judgement... I need votes soon. What should I do? I know! I’ll be the good guy and open up everything much sooner than I should. That’ll keep em happy. F*ck the other nations that make up the UK. They can deal with the fall out of my brilliant plan. I’ve got this! 👍”

TWAT!!

WaltzingTilda · 23/02/2021 23:36

Well..he did say that it was 'inhuman' to cancel Christmas three days before cancelling Christmas-so who knows what will happen. He is the master of rhetoric....

Well I’ve been in at least 15 staff rooms with that exact sign (or similar) including care homes, NHS wards and GP surgeries.

Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Dongdingdong · 24/02/2021 06:09

And just because some random on the internet says they do doesn’t mean they do. Or do you believe everything you read online?

Dongdingdong · 24/02/2021 06:10

@Ostryga also, ‘at least 15 staff rooms’ - you sure get around.

@FishWithoutABike suicide rates have gone up .. maybe not in data but I know of many more 2 personally ... ask any doctor or therapist and they will tell you !!! Anxiety /depression which leads to suicide

Dolciedolly · 24/02/2021 06:30

Boris has done a brilliant job! If we was under labour we would be further behind in vaccines than we are now!
This !
