What the hell is going on!

In December I received an NHS letter telling me I was at risk and needed to book in my free flu vaccine. Apart from when I was pregnant I have never been offered one before and couldn't see that I fit any of the categories. I contact my GP Surgery who said that they couldn't see any reason I'd been invited other than a slightly raised BMI which was last taken when I was pregnant (under 40)

Today I received a text telling me I needed to book in for my covid jab. They are currently doing category 6. I called the surgery again and asked what was going on as Do not fit any of the categories (again BMI is still under 40) I was told by the receptionist that she couldn't tell me why but that I fit the category and should book in as a matter of urgency.

For context my mother is shielding and has diabetes and a BMI over 40 and has not been invited for the jab yet, my father is over 60 and has not been invited yet. My family member who has chronic conditions has not been invited yet but I have!

What the hell os going on. I'm concerned that there is something on my records that I am not aware of (also didn't have GD during pregnancy). I'm actually really worried that something isn't right!

Has anyone been in the same position?

I'm type 1 diabetic and have asthma, I havent been invited for a vaccine yet, so just take the bloody vaccine instead of questioning it, I'd love to have it done!

SummerHouse · 22/02/2021 19:36

The world has gone a little mad when they can't give a patient their OWN medical info! I would just get it and think of it as potentially protecting all those people you mention.

It is nuts though. Confused

DavidsSchitt · 22/02/2021 19:36

"my mother is shielding and has diabetes and a BMI over 40 and has not been invited for the jab yet"

Then your mother needs to book her vaccine on the NHS website

ohtobe · 22/02/2021 19:38

@DavidsSchitt she's been told that there are no appointments available and to wait for the GP to contact her

Have they got your height down as 62cm?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/02/2021 19:41

The system isn't going to be perfect, particularly considering how fast it has been implemented. If you have have offered the jab (and want it) then book! It's better to just go with it than the amount of admin work in trying to fix it.

On a side note, has your mum tried to book through the website?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/02/2021 19:41

If you’re worried about what’s on your medical records you can do a data request under the data protection act for about £10 and get a copy. In the meantime just book in for your vaccine.

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 19:44

I told this story last week, if you are at all suspicious it is important to request the data. I discovered I had been misdiagnosed with schizophrenia eight years after it happened when my new GP asked why I wasn't medicating it! I had post natal psychosis with my second child which was fleeting and never had another episode.

DavidsSchitt · 22/02/2021 19:45

@ohtobe told by who?

You don't speak to anyone to book the nhs appointment on the website.

If she was shielded then she just goes ahead and books it

ohtobe · 22/02/2021 20:01

@DavidsSchitt website asks her to call her GP when she does they tell her they don't have any appointments

I had a text and phone call from my official doctor's surgery offering me the covid jab. I'm 22 and have no underlying health conditions. I don't Don't understand either

ohtobe · 22/02/2021 20:21

@Lilymossflower it's so worrying isn't it. I get so anxious about medical stuff. I'm my head I had prepared myself for an April earliest vaccine

SplendidSuns1000 · 22/02/2021 20:21

I'm 22, no underlying health conditions etc and I've been contacted a few times by GP telling me I urgently need to book my jab. My local surgery is only just starting group 6 so I'm not going to barge in past vulnerable people to get mine when I don't leave the house!

WatchWatch · 22/02/2021 20:39

Just book you jab.

Unsure33 · 22/02/2021 20:42

It’s the new algorithm from Oxford . For some reason you have been triggered. Just book your jab .

Now or April what’s the difference . Just do it .

Unsure33 · 22/02/2021 20:43

@SplendidSuns1000

Have you checked the new criteria based on research ? Just get the jab . And then you will be able to go out .

I only don't go out because we aren't allowed, I'm not an anti-jabber! I live rurally so don't go far anyway.

manicinsomniac · 22/02/2021 23:24

Book your jab and then send your mum to your appointment? Might not work but worth a try. I'd do it.

AfternoonToffee · 22/02/2021 23:56

Just book your appointment, then look into your medical records at a later date. GP surgeries are busy enough at the moment.

What! I'm sure the staff when they checked the DOB might twig the patient in front of them looks 20 to 40 years older than they should be!

Op go get it and ask why you've triggered the system. Tell your mum to keep checking the system.

BensonStabler · 23/02/2021 03:48

I'm vulnerable, my DH is my carer.
He received his letter invitation to be vaccinated first, with a few weeks notice. Over a couple weeks went by, still nothing for me.

However with only a couple days notice to spare I received mine.
Had the mail been any later I may have missed it.
I'm just happy it finally came. Turned out my vaccination date is still before his. It is only the letter that he received was earlier than mine.

I absolutely understand the worry, waiting and not knowing. I hope it gets sorted for your family soon.

I have heard many people have been sent in these in error due to an automatic algorithm. Then it takes up too much time and admin for NHS to be sorting, and GP's phone lines are being held up with vaccine queries instead of sick patients trying to get seen. So best to still go.

Take your vaccine as offered. Your protection will also protect your loved ones when you see them. Try not to feel guilty, you are not taking an actual place of your Mum or Dad. They should get theirs very soon. It is just very sad things couldn't be done precisely and fairly at this mass level.

Don’t do this. It will completely fuck up your medical records and hers.

Jesus Christ Hmm

ohtobe · 23/02/2021 09:03

I'm more concerned about what is on my records rather than going for the jab or not. Something is flagging up on there when nothing should be which is very concerning.

Tiktokersmiracle · 23/02/2021 09:07

Sorry but as someone having to plead and being called a bully by a GP receptionist, I'm really sick of seeing people asking why they've been called in!
So what?

Have the sodding thing so the rest of us who should be and who are being forgotten, ignored and not sleeping due to anxiety can finally get invited.

It's not hard!
