What the hell is going on!

In December I received an NHS letter telling me I was at risk and needed to book in my free flu vaccine. Apart from when I was pregnant I have never been offered one before and couldn't see that I fit any of the categories. I contact my GP Surgery who said that they couldn't see any reason I'd been invited other than a slightly raised BMI which was last taken when I was pregnant (under 40)

Today I received a text telling me I needed to book in for my covid jab. They are currently doing category 6. I called the surgery again and asked what was going on as Do not fit any of the categories (again BMI is still under 40) I was told by the receptionist that she couldn't tell me why but that I fit the category and should book in as a matter of urgency.

For context my mother is shielding and has diabetes and a BMI over 40 and has not been invited for the jab yet, my father is over 60 and has not been invited yet. My family member who has chronic conditions has not been invited yet but I have!

What the hell os going on. I'm concerned that there is something on my records that I am not aware of (also didn't have GD during pregnancy). I'm actually really worried that something isn't right!

Has anyone been in the same position?

@Tiktokersmiracle

Sorry but as someone having to plead and being called a bully by a GP receptionist, I'm really sick of seeing people asking why they've been called in! So what?

Have the sodding thing so the rest of us who should be and who are being forgotten, ignored and not sleeping due to anxiety can finally get invited.

It's not hard!

OP has explained why she is concerned. Don't make a perfectly legitimate query about you. It's nothing to do with you or your vaccine. How awful.

Just take it. Who knows?! I don't usually get a flu jab, but had one last year as pregnant, but got offered again this year unexpectedly. You are protecting your parents for you to have it if you need to see them or are already seeing them. So areas are also way ahead of others.

Get your parents to put their NHS number in the booking page of the NHS website and see if it will let them book yet

OP it might be worth downloading the NHS app (not the covid one) and you may be able to access your records that way if your GP is opted in.

Otherwise phone again and insist on a phone appointment with a GP so they can explain why you are in group 6.

But take the vaccine in the meantime. We all need it eventually, so there's no issue with having it a few weeks earlier than you would have otherwise got it.

I got offered a home visit by a nurse to give me the jab as I am apparently housebound. News to me, in December I did a 400 mile round trip to visit an elderly relative who was unwell in a care home so I've no idea what happened to me between December and January.

@Tiktokersmiracle I think it's a perfectly legitimate question. When you are not aware of any reasons that make you vulnerable it is worrying to be called up and quoted that you are.
For what it's worth our surgery has implemented a vaccine only phone line for any questions etc. My whole post is that I have skipped the queue and don't know why I don't need to feel even shittier when I am concerned

Thanks all. I got a call from a doctor this morning who said it was because of my BMI that they have down as being 45! They explained that they have my weight down as a lot more than I am hence the reason (although they won't change it unless I have a health assessment which is ridiculous).

They have said the vaccine is there if I want it and if I dont have it yet there is no problem as it wil be offered to the next people in line and I can book at a later date. I will have a think about it today!

I'm 49 with no conditions whatsoever and healthy weight. I received an invitation in the post today to get my jag this Sunday.

My mum only had hers today! It's absolutely baffling but I'll happily take it. If its an admin error it's probably more faff to change it than just turn up and get it.

Honestly the clinical coding on NHS records is junk, as has been shown. It's unlikely to affect your care though I understand why you want to know and correct it. They should have a system that allows you to correct your own records.

Chimoia · 23/02/2021 12:43

Unlikely to affect your care because every clinician will assess.
