Already people saying this will be over on the 21st of June.

Yep. They haven't read the ifs and buts

Racoonworld · 22/02/2021 18:03

No, because they’ve actually put a date on it and put it in the roadmap. Although it can change, it will be very difficult for them to backtrack now.

No it won’t It’s all conditional if those conditions aren’t met they won’t happen
LadyCatStark · 22/02/2021 18:05

I think you’ve proved my point.

I'm a bit worried about it all but this time we have vaccines so surely that will mean it will be over by then?

applesandoranges221 · 22/02/2021 18:14

Yep!! I would go back to normal tomorrow but the people thinking that the government are just going to hand us back our civil liberties on 21st June are frankly naive.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/02/2021 18:15

They never said it would be over in 3 weeks. They always said it would be reviewed. That was a psychological thing to stop the general public panicking. It didn't work very well and confused people mainly.

@applesandoranges221

So how do you think it’s doing to be then...? Lockdown forever?

Exactly - this is exactly the same.

But this time we have vaccines and evidence to prove they work?!

Or have you missed that?

applesandoranges221 · 22/02/2021 18:19

Honestly? I think that the PM will lose support within his own party, I think there will be unfortunately quite significant social unrest and then they will be forced to ditch pointless never ending lockdowns that have no end.

I’d LOVE to be wrong and just have everything open up and democracy restored but I’ve somewhat lost hope I’m afraid!

siestalady · 22/02/2021 18:20

Surely anyone with half a brain can see that the 21st June relies on lots of conditions being met. Hopefully they will be met, we just don't know.

The fact that there is a plan in place, and a recognition that things like education need to reopen is a good thing.

Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 18:20

Look at the data, look at what is happening in Israel and even countries who don't have vaccines, think about last summer and how low cases got. There is reason to be hopeful that we didn't have last year. The vaccines are working better than anyone had dared hope.

BrideofBideford · 22/02/2021 18:20

Yes, no, we won’t be free again this year

BettyBoomerang · 22/02/2021 18:21

Embarrassing isn’t it!

megletsecond · 22/02/2021 18:22

Yanbu.
If all school and front line staff were going to be vaccinated before opening up I'd be a bit more charitable. But that scarecrow we have in charge is ignoring common sense again.

Poppins2016 · 22/02/2021 18:23

The dates aren't definite, they're 'not before' rather than 'lifted by', however I think people are misinterpreting...

We do have vaccines now which does make a significant difference.

Agree - there will be many wails of ‘but they said the 21st of June’ 😩

The review of which social distancing measures (inc WFH guidance) will be needed beyond stage 4 of the 'unlocking' will be carried out before 21st June...not dropped then unfortunately. Hopefully the figures will look good and they can relax some SD restrictions...I can't see WFH/'Covid secure' rules going before all adults have had a vaccine dose though- and that's pencilled in for the end of July. Another 3 weeks to build immunity takes us to late Aug.

Mystraightenersarebroken · 22/02/2021 19:41

Yes, YABU

Ch3rish · 22/02/2021 19:43

Yes, I just said to one of my DC that no one is going to hear the not before words and will then start whinging if the whole country isn't open on 21 June.

He made it very clear that the dates are provisory. Hence, they can be changed at any of the reviews. That's the whole point of a gradual, cautious approach.
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/02/2021 19:54

It feels like christmas all over again.

I’d love it to be June but imagine sending the schools back whilst staff and parents are not vaccinated in the main will send the R rate up. More will break the rules as see no point in following them once children are in school. Chances for it to mutate in group gatherings etc.

The dates are provisional so won’t be banking on anything.

PicsInRed · 22/02/2021 19:59

If vaccines are the way out, why are we wearing masks next winter (and multiple/all future winters), according to Whitty?

And if they're anticipating that, it would be optimistic to think they're aren't also planning other restrictions ongoingly.

Argh I hate this so much. Fucking 😷 🦠
