Yes I know that the dates just mapped out by Boris are provisional but for the first time in god knows how long I feel positive and have hope. Yet certain bloody family members of mine have been in the phone/text basically telling me not to get my hopes up as we’ll be in lockdown number 4 come summer. I know they’re family but seriously fuck off! AIBU?

Hope for the best but prepare for the worst works for me. I'm a realist.

DenisetheMenace · 23/02/2021 10:25

I think it could still go either way. Schools back after Easter, when all 9 groups are vaccinated, would make things more certain IMO.
Hope I’m wrong.

GirlInterruptedAgain · 23/02/2021 11:01

I don’t think there will be enough people vaccinated for this freedom to work. We will be back in lockdown before Christmas again.

@PicsInRed

Look on it this way: either they'll let us out, or we'll take it for ourselves. Either way, this is coming to an end.

I'm in the pessimistic camp - I think Boris is lying, he looks far too sketchy and not triumphant enough about his "good news". Along with the massive set of loopholes they've allowed themselves to employ to keep us locked down, it's rubbish, really.

The bright side is that people are so fed up that they'll revolt should Boris attempt to keep this going into summer. That's where my optimism sits, not with the government, but with the people. Here's to riot weather. 🍹☀️

My thoughts exactly.

We won't go into another lockdown, even if Boris suggests it. There would be massive riots and civil disobedience - and he knows it.

The cases are plummeting and I have every faith in the scientists to do their job and do booster jabs to variants. The original vaccines already over high efficiency over the variants.

Let them Doom and Gloom, OP. They must know something the scientists don't!

Last summer, the openings in June and July went to schedule. There was a slight delay on the August indoor leisure. Spring/ summer has even without vaccines, shown falling or low stable rates of virus around the world refardless of management strategy.
The Christmas/ January disappointments were because of the natural winter peak and the Kent variation behaving differently to the projections. That is far less likely to reoccour in the coming months.

I'm looking forwards to life becoming more purposeful and richer in the coming months. I will make plans, but nothing I can't afford to lose or defer if there is a delay of reopening, especially if it soon after one of the currently scheduled dates.

My dm has been negative since late summer so quite draining tbh.That said she lives alone.
When I told her some of the hopeful easing she reckons it won't affect her now even though she has banged on about it for ages.
I don't do pubs cinemas or hairdressers or gyms.I am however very happy for those that do in my family.
Monday was the best news since the vaccine roll out.A real reason to be optimistic. While keeping a sense of reality.

MoirasRoses · 23/02/2021 13:27

How do people live in such gloom? Yeah OK it’s sketchy & not definite but good god, whatever I am able to do over summer I will be doing with BELLS ON. So if we have another lockdown I’ll feel happy & OK for a while! I’ve lost a much loved relative to covid but one of the last things she said to me was to not let this illness that was going to claim her life ruin my children’s lives or stop us living as tomorrow is never promised. And I shall take her words & live to the best of our ability!

MoirasRoses · 23/02/2021 13:28

Also, did everyone miss the fantastic vaccine data that came out yesterday? Hospital admissions down by 80% after one dose?!

ComtesseDeSpair · 23/02/2021 15:57

@GirlInterruptedAgain

I don’t think there will be enough people vaccinated for this freedom to work. We will be back in lockdown before Christmas again.
What makes you think this? People in groups 1 - 4 are currently responsible for 88% of deaths and 65% of hospital admissions. In groups 1 - 7 it’s over 96% of deaths and 80% of hospital admissions. It’s anticipated by early May that almost everyone in Groups 1 - 7 will have received their second dose. Many people in lower groups will also have received their first dose, which gives significant protection in itself. So we’ll have carried out plenty enough vaccinations to ensure that the people currently overwhelming the NHS, won’t do so.
