Jab side effects - anyone want to share the pain?

YukoandHiro · 21/02/2021 22:07

I had mine this morning. Was fine for a few hours. Feel hideous now - aching all over, chills, the lot.
I'm breastfeeding and my boobs ache too leading me to panic about mastitis but it isn't, it's just the covid immunity doing its job.
Anyone else sharing this night of hell... ?
Obviously I'm v pleased to have got the jab. I'm a recipient of a new shielding letter so the last week has been a bit of a shock.

I had mine on Thursday, had a night of shivering and sweating, then a day of feeling like I had a horrendous hangover, and now pretty much back to normal.

YukoandHiro · 21/02/2021 22:14

Really hoping it doesn't last longer than 48 hours as I have help with the kids for the next two days but not after that

Had mine 5pm Sat, am also bfing and side effects started when I woke up for 5am feed today (Sun) - have spent all of today feeling awful, esp when LO latches on, and just hoping I feel better tomorrow morning!

WitchDancer · 21/02/2021 22:17

I had mine yesterday. I've got a sore arm but otherwise no side effects yet. My Mum said she had flu like symptoms a couple of days afterwards so I'm bracing myself for that.

HelloViroids · 21/02/2021 22:18

I only had help with baby today so need to be better tomorrow Confused Still extremely grateful to have had the jab though!

caramac04 · 21/02/2021 22:18

Very sore arm and a day of feeling quite poorly, managed to walk the dog but soon back in pj’s. Headache, raised temp.
However, the day after that I felt fine and arm much less sore.
Hope you feel better soon.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 21/02/2021 22:21

I had a tender arm and one day of being very tired. Nothing else

YukoandHiro · 21/02/2021 22:23

@HelloViroids Fingers crossed you're feeling better in the morning! Do report back and let us know how you feel. I'm expecting to feel fairly crap throughout the night feeds tonight... baby is only 4m so there will be a few.

I had my vaccine this morning - slightly tender arm but nothing else so far...

YukoandHiro · 21/02/2021 22:52

I was expecting this as I do usually get a day of feverishness with my annual flu jab so I am prone. Just trying to remind myself that it's a great sign as it means it's working.

Fever dreams! Always fun...

No sleep yet, partly due to two restless DC. Fun fun fun.

Hope you’re ok @YukoandHiro Flowers I am def feeling better than I was this time yest, but still not 100% - very cold and a bit headachy. My LO is 7 months old and teething so also having a bad night Sad

WanderingFruitWonderer · 22/02/2021 06:34

Out of curiosity, which vaccines did you all have - Pfizer or AZ? I'm not due my first jab for ages (low risk) but already somewhat worried about side effects, as I tend to react to most things, and have a sensitive constitution. I'm wondering which vaccine produces more side effects?
I hope you've all made a swift recovery Flowers

Frazzled6 · 22/02/2021 06:40

I've got my jab on Tuesday, assume side affects don't kick in for a few hours?

BMHM · 22/02/2021 06:42

@WanderingFruitWonderer don't let threads like these put you off. It is relatively common for all vaccines to have minor side effects for 48 hours. Even the vaccines we give our very young children have common side effects including pain and high temperature. OP already said she feels much better.

FWIW I had no issues whatsoever with my vaccine, not a sore arm. When I ask patients about their vaccine, vast majority have had no issues, some had a sore arm. My family had no issues.

BoogleMcGroogle · 22/02/2021 06:54

YukoandHiro I hope you feel better soon. I was in your position this time last week. Had the OAZ Sunday afternoon and felt mikes better Tuesday morning. Might just be worth arranging childcare for round 2, as you can expect to feel a bit grim in the second assault.

Have you had Covid? I have, and this does seem to cause side effects with the OAZ. Colleagues who’ve had the Pfizer or not had Covid have all been fine.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 22/02/2021 06:55

Thank you @BMHM. Yes, I only know one person irl who's had bad side effects. Don't worry, when my time comes, I'll definitely take the vaccine, as I see it as my moral duty. But preparing myself for the worst, just in case. I can't find data on which vaccine is most likely to cause side effects. If I could find out, and have a choice, then I'll choose the gentler one. But I realise I'm unlikely to have a choice anyway. I reckon I'll be one of the last to be vaccinated, so they'll probably be scraping the barrel!

YukoandHiro · 22/02/2021 07:39

@WanderingFruitWonderer I had the Oxford Astra Zeneca one. My husband (also high risk, but for totally different reasons) is down to have Pfizer on Wednesday this week.

I don't think I've had covid, certainly not knowingly. However I did have a cold last January that caused me to lose my sense of taste and smell very significantly, but that was before we even knew covid was in the UK. I had mild symptoms and nobody else in my house got ill, so I had assumed that wasn't it. Interesting to hear it makes vaccine symptoms worse through... maybe I did have it? (I was commuting in London on the tube so it probably was circulating)

I agree with everyone - don't let it put you off, it's far better than getting the real thing!! I've got a shielding letter so who knows what might happen if I got it, and my youngest DC is only 4 months!
Was just posting for night time solidarity

YukoandHiro · 22/02/2021 07:44

@Frazzled6 it kicked in exactly 12 hours after the jab. Almost another 12 hours later I'm feeling better than I did (though still achy)

OP posts:
Wejustdontknow · 22/02/2021 08:28

I had the Oxford jab at 1:30 yesterday afternoon, around 9 last night I started to feel a little achy. Spent the night going from freezing to boiling hot s feeling flu like and this morning I have a banging headache, feel very achy and sore all over and a little nauseous, I’ve not eaten yet and I normally eat as soon as I get up but homeschooling is back on today so I need to just get through that then I’m going back to bed, I purposely has it yesterday as I am not back in work until Wednesday so have a couple of days to recover

yesyoudoknowme · 22/02/2021 08:34

I had the AZ one and the day after was very flu-ey and couldn't go into work. A week on and my arm is still painful. It is been really bad all week ( so bad I considered calling the GP ) but will give it a few more days. DH had the Pfizer and no real reaction. My sister had the AZ and had similar symptoms without the arm.

Januaryblue2020 · 22/02/2021 08:48

Had the jab on Saturday afternoon, felt rotten yesterday with high temp and nausea and still not right today (though not helped by being up with a toddler all night...) Hopefully today will be the day I shake it off!
The only positive- apparently this means we have a good immune response to the jab

YukoandHiro · 22/02/2021 08:57

Exactly @Januaryblue2020 - that's what I keep telling myself.
