Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this? It's a double edge sword we want to keep everyone safe and healthy and get covid under control but equally, our mental health is suffering greatly not being able to visit relatives or friends or even just get out of our own 4 walls.

I was thinking about this, because I'm longing to see my sister and parents (live 200 miles away) even if only for a socially-distanced outdoor day out (when this was legal over the summer, we met half way).

I think the government will be wary of any significant easing around Easter (start of April) because they won't want people to go mad and suddenly mis a lot. My guess is that if it isn't allowed by 8 March it won't happen till at least a week after Easter. If I were going to put money on it I'd say mid-April.

Hope I am wrong and it's sooner, though.

LApprentiSorcier · 21/02/2021 12:16

'mix a lot' not 'mis a lot'.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 21/02/2021 12:21

I reckon the government will prioritise business over safety and set us free to spend our money at Easter.

Although I suppose if they throw all the kids into school in two weeks time, then it might be going majorly tits-up by Easter.

SonnetForSpring · 21/02/2021 12:22

Summer I think.

ConeHat · 21/02/2021 12:26

I have a break booked for Easter. I dont think it will go ahead.

Waking up to some sunshine and thinking oh what a lovely day to..... then realising you cant go anywhere is very depressing. I'm 30 mins drive from the coast but it might as well 4000

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 21/02/2021 12:29

I am hoping that it is mid march ...

I’m hoping by Easter as I heard staycations were being allowed then. I think Wales is doing that too and you’ve got to be able to travel then, unless they’re expecting people to take staycations in their own towns.
I have family and friends 150 miles away and I’ll be breaking the rules if they say you can met family but you have to stay local.

Thecoppertree · 21/02/2021 12:31

@ConeHat I read they might be allowing staycations in self contained accommodation

Augustwhatacrapname · 21/02/2021 12:31

ConeHat

I'd just go in all honesty

Augustwhatacrapname · 21/02/2021 12:32

Staycation means stay at home not holiday in the UK

MoirasRoses · 21/02/2021 12:34

It’s been hinted holiday homes etc can re-open in April in which case, it suggests you’ll be able to travel. I’d imagine you won’t be able to meet indoors at that point but hopefully you could maybe book a holiday home/hotel nearby?! This is our plan at that point.. we’ve got a couple holiday homes on air b&b nearby flagged & once we think we can travel, we’ll book one! My kiddos can at least then see their cousins & grandparents outdoors during the week! Not all at once obvs but anything is better than nothing!

BluebirdHill · 21/02/2021 12:34

I'm hoping for news on this too. I would be content for now with having to meet outside if we can travel a bit to do that - we have family who aren't local but who we could see as a day trip if allowed - and also if the group size allowed isn't too small. The risk outdoors is very low is what now seems to be agreed. Hoping outdoor attractions like zoos and theme parks could open too.

MoirasRoses · 21/02/2021 12:34

No it doesn’t @Augustwhatacrapname - a staycation means a holiday in your own country.

CeeJay81 · 21/02/2021 12:35

I'm not sure they if they'll allow it over Easter. Although Wales are planning it(I'm in Wales but family outside of Wales). so I'm not sure. Im thinking maybe may when groups 1-9 are done. The government are under pressure from back benchers though.

TierFourTears · 21/02/2021 12:35

I dont know, but desperatly hoping Boris realises not all families can meet up in the park for a wander, and for some of us seeing family means overnight stays somewhere.
It's all very well him saying he want to reunite families, but legally I haven't been able to see mi e since October, and some families gave been seperated longer than that.

A discription 😂

Here is another description

dogsaremypeople · 21/02/2021 12:39

I think uk holidays will be allowed for Easter.

Alfaix · 21/02/2021 12:40

In answer to the question I am going end of March as we have a SC lodge with hot tib booked for early April. Just out household. Would love to go, but no idea!

Alfaix · 21/02/2021 12:41

Hot tub
Our household

gallbladderpain · 21/02/2021 12:41

I think it will be long before summer. Undecided whether they will leave it until after the Easter holidays though or if they will allow travel and outdoor meets over the Easter holidays

Swingometer · 21/02/2021 12:42

I am really hoping we will be allowed more freedom to travel within the UK to facilitate outdoor meet ups with friends/family who don't live locally by late March/early April (eg. rule of 6 meeting up outdoors for a walk)

I don't think overnight stays with mixed households will be allowed til at least May but I see no reason why UK holiday holidays with a single household group in self contained self catering accommodation shouldn't be allowed at some point in April

RedskyBynight · 21/02/2021 12:44

Staycation always used to mean staying at home and travelling for day trips. In recent years, it seems to have morphed to meaning "staying in your home country". Which, as many people never have holidays outside their home country, always struck me as a bit odd.

BluebirdHill · 21/02/2021 12:50

Please let's not go through the whole debate about what staycation means again. There was an entire thread about this in the last few weeks, and no one agrees
even though it's obviously staying in your own actual home not holidaying in your own country
so let's just say where we're actually hoping to travel to.

User7538943 · 21/02/2021 12:54

Easter I hope, if not we shall travel anyway and if we get a fine then so be it, it's just another cost added to all the other costs that covid has done to us, I'll just add it to the list of wasted money like lost holiday deposits
