Schools in England should go back at Easter

I'm terrified that full return will result in increased transmissions. This will increase the chance of more mutations. Which increases the chance of a mutant that is resistant to the current vaccines.

Or just back with full wards, and yet another lockdown.

I loathe lockdown. I would give anything to wake up tomorrow and life be back to normal. But it's for this reason I think we should wait that extra bit longer. Get those rates right down and vaccines out, then have a return to school that won't result in another lockdown.....!

AIBU for thinking this? Am I wrong?

@Fembot123

Also why is it indisputable?
The PP linked to numerous examples of reports, so it isn't really up for debate that these school communities have lost members of staff.

I'm not sure why you need to find a specific example that isn't directly relevant to you, but I can see why a poster would want to remain anonymous on here.

Teachers resigning doesn't make the papers. Why don't you just come out and accuse mumsneeswine of lying, since that is what you're saying.

dividedwefall · 20/02/2021 14:52

Pretty sure we did this to death yesterday. Every possible permutation of every possible opinion was explored on a 40 page thread. Half agree with you, the other half disagree.

2 teachers from the same school dying would make the papers 🤦🏼‍♀️
MrsHamlet · 20/02/2021 14:52

@teachermummy1

Bet no one died Grin

As an edit to my last post, y10 and 12 in on March 8 also.

Are you always so unpleasant or is today a special day?
Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 14:53

@Newtonn, if you can’t see why someone who worked at a school would be interested in this I can’t help you I’m afraid.

alwaysraining123 · 20/02/2021 14:53

Hmm children need to be back in school receiving a full education by qualified teachers and playing with their friends. Parents need to be able to do their job properly!

teachermummy1 · 20/02/2021 14:55

Epic comeback @MrsHamlet

Clearly their school is an anomaly.
5 teachers resigning? Perhaps it was not the profession for them after all.

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 14:55

And I clearly didn’t say no teaching communities had lost teachers, don’t twist my words to fit in with whatever your point is.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/02/2021 14:57

@teachermummy1

Send in primary schools on March 8. It is safe for them and they are not 'super spreaders'.

After Easter (dependent on cases not being out of control) start sending back y11, 12 and 13, then the other years starting with y10. Rota systems may be the best option.

There is a teacher who posted the cases for schools in December and primaries had lots of cases and it’s being shown that it’s the children who are the first person in many households to have it and spread it.
alwaysraining123 · 20/02/2021 14:59

As for the deaths of teachers. Unfortunately there’s been lots of deaths in lots of occupational sectors. Teachers are no more likely to die than others. The unions are doing a great job of twisting the data again and their messages are changing all the time.

teachermummy1 · 20/02/2021 15:04

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

I just think at this point it's been long enough. Whatever age group they are, at least one set of children need to get back into the classroom.

Myself and co-workers are happy with the safety of the school and aren't overly worried about risks to themselves or family. I appreciate however there are others in much different circumstances.

Newtonn · 20/02/2021 15:05

Thanks, but I don't need your help with anything. You're implying that you don't believe what you've read, which I think naive. Data on occupations has been unclear, and especially so when workplaces have been closed. We still know there are risks where people mix, and this shouldn't be news to you.

You say you work in a school. If you do, you'll understand mumsneedwine's reluctance to name her school on a forum and identify herself.

It does not necessarily make the papers in one article you can easily locate from sparse details, when two unrelated adults sadly pass away.

My school lost two teachers in the space of three months to the virus (albeit one who had taken up a post elsewhere after training with us). They have still both gone and their families and the school community are still grieving.

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 15:07

If I do 😂 the hypocrisy!

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 15:09

In the current climate two teachers from the same school dying would make the news, the poster herself said it did! We are just going round in circles. You think I’m naive and I think you are so we are equal 😘

Yourself is not fooling anyone.

Remmy123 · 20/02/2021 15:12

If it was easter you wouid all be saying - let's send kids back after the summer

It has to end

We have to live with this

Newtonn · 20/02/2021 15:16

@Fembot123

Which school do you work in, then? And as what?

You've been flippant, sarcastic and barely believable throughout. Oooh, if you can't see why, as a like minded professional, details of what's happening in similar workplaces would be essential reading for me... It's truly shocking and BIG NEWS.

Yet you don't see why a teacher wouldn't publicise her workplace on a forum.

teachermummy1 · 20/02/2021 15:18

@Newtonn

No idea what you're on about. sorry.

I can tell.

Nothing you wrote about feeling safe made any meaningful sense and wasn't convincing.

Myself and coworkers are happy...
Themselves...
Much different...

Teachers usually know what the reflexive is and about agreement in sentences. Along with the fact that fewer mitigations in schools than elsewhere mean they are not as safe.

TheMoth · 20/02/2021 16:16

I'm looking forward to all the support from parents when we go back. I expect every child to be fully compliant with the rules, in and out of school, because it's so important they get an education. All hw will be handed in on time, behaviour will be perfect.

I'll happily wear a mask all day and forfeit my access to drinking water and kettles for that.

Hopeful201 · 20/02/2021 16:23

The children need to be back in. Our school had no issues last time and I can see how hard lockdown has been on teens. MH is a huge issue, keep everything else locked down for slightly longer. Possibly do blended learning-week in week at home but don't keep them at home any longer.

mumsneedwine · 20/02/2021 16:25

Well I went away and did some work and missed all the fun. Thank you to those of you sticking up for me - I frankly don’t give a monkeys arse if anyone believes me or not. Passed expecting anyone to care about school staff and their health. We know where we stand - our workplaces are very different to everyone else’s and require no masks or distancing. Because COVID is repelled by the magic tape on the floor.
Back to putting year 12 exams online. Takes forever.

teachermummy1 · 20/02/2021 16:34

@Newtonn

Yeah... I think you're overanalyzing. I am happy to be in a classroom. My colleagues are happy to be in a classroom.
My DD's teachers have all expressed to her their want to return to school.
