So a friend said today her 17yo dd who has mild asthma and her h, in his 40s, no health problems, had their vaccines today.

I asked why. She has no idea. She rang the gp surgery to check her h was eligible. isn't this mad?

I'm 48, with asthma and have had hospital treatment for psoriasis in the last two years, yet have not been called yet...

I'm fine with that, but why are people with no underlying conditions being called who are at the same surgery??!

I'm wondering the same.

I had a shielding letter earlier last year.
I'm asthmatic.
I have a heart problem.
Yet I haven't been offered mine yet.

RosesLoves · 18/02/2021 23:44

I know, I find it quite frustrating to hear of adults under 50 with no health conditions being offered the vaccine. It feels really unfair and I feel like it's only since they opened it up to group 5+6 that I have been hearing of this happening. Before then I felt like it was a lot stricter. I hate to admit it but it makes me feel really bitter. I just have to presume that they have a health condition they don't realise makes them CV.

In my household there are 4 of us who are group 6 and none of us have had the invite yet.

NLM20 · 18/02/2021 23:46

Are you in group six? Check with your GP as mine didn’t even have me down for group six and now I’ve got the shielding email.

NLM20 · 18/02/2021 23:47

The nhs book vaccination link should allow all group six to book themselves in.

Group six cannot book via the link they have to be invited by GP.

Beaniecats · 18/02/2021 23:52

No it doesn't
Epilepsy
Group 6
Says not eligible to book

Beaniecats · 18/02/2021 23:53

I really wish people wouldn't give out wrong advice

Midlifephoenix · 18/02/2021 23:58

No it doesn't! I'm 58 have type 1 diabetes. I did not get a shielding letter previously so therefore ineligible currently. It says to wait. So I'll wait.
Friends who are registered with different GPs have had it, so I guess it depends on their individual patient lists. If they've vaccinated all those in the various tiers, they can go on to the next one.

Lemonsyellow · 19/02/2021 00:01

@NLM20
Group 6 cannot book via that link. I’m group 6 and it says I’m not eligible.

VirtualLearning · 19/02/2021 00:10

I am grateful our GP is already vaccinating group 6 and contacting so many people so it must be hard logistically . I would be interested how patient notes work for something like this as they missed DH who has had hospitalisations for asthma but invited me (I also have a health condition but I didn’t know if it was included. They confirmed it was)

NLM20 · 19/02/2021 00:14

Apologies. Sorry I thought they could.

Hope you get calls soon. Such a postcode lottery and totally empathise with the frustration of waiting.

crankycow80 · 19/02/2021 00:15

Group 6 has been an absolute joke. I feel sorry for the 60-64 year old group who have to wait and watch while they vaccinate student nurses and people with no self control.

NLM20 · 19/02/2021 00:17

It may be worth checking you are in group six via your GP. Although my condition has put me in group six, I wasn’t on it and had to call to get that corrected on the system.

Beaniecats · 19/02/2021 00:24

My GP has gone to ground
An angry message is on the website though
DO NOT CALL RE COVID VACCINE
like that in capitals
So if I am wrongly coded not sure what I can do?

Beaniecats · 19/02/2021 00:27

Although incidentally I did learn 2 year ago my treatment for melanoma 10 years ago wasn't recorded in significant history and everyone had forgotten about it. Its only cancer after all

NLM20 · 19/02/2021 00:31

That’s awful. The first time I rang, the receptionist told me the practice manager said no you aren’t eligible. Cried my eyes out. Made a routine appointment to discuss it and had lots of documents that I had to tell the doctor to look at, after which I was discussed and added. Seeing as I have rheumatoid arthritis and it was in the list, I thought hopefully I have helped flag not knowing about it and therefore help other patients.

I think this new risk factor programme that’s come in this week will hopefully stop that happening as it seems to be erring on caution.

I think it doesn’t help that in some areas group six was started before group four had finished in some areas.

Really Hmm

You think perfectly healthy 60 - 64 yr olds, many of whom do not have to leave home, should be prioritised above student nurses who are stepping up to support on the frontline ???

Odd.

I'm more concerned that the population as a whole seem to be above teachers and Nursery workers. Nursery staff particularly as they have had to remain open throughout, and obviously, with 0 - 5s they need to do intimate care and general close F2F attention to the children all day. Makes no sense to me.

However, I am glad that the vaccines are going to anyone rather than being wasted, with such a short 'shelf life'.

toomanypillows · 19/02/2021 01:05

I'm group 6 (diabetic) and I went onto Swiftqueue yesterday on Weds and booked both my vaccinations.

I had no text or letter invitation, just ticked the right boxesnom swiftqueue and put my NHS number in

Absolutely loads of appts available (local big vaccination centre)
Went on Thursday evening, they just checked my NHS number which confirmed I was eligible and got my first jab

Keep trying swiftqueue if you're group 6

Lemonsyellow · 19/02/2021 09:25

I’ve never heard of swiftqueue. What is that?

tenlittlecygnets · 19/02/2021 09:34

NHS website says Group 6 people can't book vaccines yet. Have emailed my practice.

OP posts:
Lemonsyellow · 19/02/2021 09:35

@toomanypillows
Can you provide a link? The only swiftqueue I can see says you need to be given a special link to book. There’s no way to do it through the main website - nowhere to fill in any details or NHS number.

Lemons1571 · 19/02/2021 09:44

@Beaniecats

Ours has similar. One of my parents went to the wrong place for their vaccination, as the name of the vaccine centre is nearly the same as the gp practice. They had phoned the gp practice to double check where they should go, but the recorded message tells you not to query anything regarding the vaccine so they put the phone down and just guessed (wrongly).
toomanypillows · 19/02/2021 09:46

@lemonsyellow

www.swiftqueue.co.uk/nottinghamc19v-clinv.php

This is my local one (it just defaults to that for me) but it says clinically vulnerable and carers. You might be able to use that link to search your own authority.

I just completed the online form and it booked me two appointments. Then I panicked because it said I had to bring proof of eligibility. So I phoned 119 and they told me it was fine, I didn't need a text or letter.

Went to to my appointment and they just asked for my NHS number, checked on the system and as I'm diabetic, I'm eligible for group 6 and I had my vaccination.

I don't know if it's different in different areas, but in Nottinghamshire there are excess appointments. I booked on Wednesday and I had a choice of same day slots and about 20 different appointment times yesterday.

It was busy ish when I went, but they were rattling through and I was one of the last times of the day, and they had vaccinations left.

How do you work out that the clinically vulnerable group should not be ahead of healthy 60-64 year olds? Student nurses aren’t even part of group 6, they will be part of the frontline group much higher up. I struggle to understand what your issue is that people with medical conditions that put them at higher risk of death are being prioritized over those less likely to die?
CurlyReds · 19/02/2021 09:52

So if you’re group 6 you should have had a shielding letter? I’m 40, I’ve been called for vaccination but I haven’t had a letter. Presumed I must be group 6 without realising but then I should have had a letter?
