Feeling poorly after Astra Zeneca

yomommasmomma · 17/02/2021 16:18

I had my first dose of Astra Zeneca vaccine yesterday (which was amazing!!) and then I started feeling unwell over night with very high temp, aches and pains and awful headache. I am still feeling very poorly today. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and how long it took to feel better?

Exactly the same. Had vaccine 3pm, felt ill overnight and just as you describe the next day. Better the day after. You'll be fine.

SparklingLime · 17/02/2021 16:22

It’s all there...

Feeling poorly after Astra Zeneca
loobylou10 · 17/02/2021 16:28

Yes, not unexpected (or unusual) side effects.

Oneearringlost · 17/02/2021 16:30

Feeling grotty for 24 + hours is normal. It means your body is working well to make the necessary antibodies.
You'll feel better tomorrowFlowers

Lordamighty · 17/02/2021 16:40

Weren’t you given the leaflet outlining all the possible side effects?

rainbowunicorn · 17/02/2021 16:44

The leaflet will have all the information about side effects on it. It is not surprising to have some, many vaccines will cause some side effects, they should only last a day or two.

yomommasmomma · 17/02/2021 16:47

Thank you all for comments and your kindness. I do have the leaflet but it doesn't seem to say how long to expect it for. My temp was quite high earlier 38.2 so we got a bit worried.

Take paracetamol every 4 hours, it really helps. You'll be fine in a couple of days.

windmill4865 · 17/02/2021 17:22

Had it on the Monday. Fine on Tuesday.. In a Zoom call for work about 10am on the Wednesday - started to feel terrible.. Went to bed at 5.30 as felt so bad - woke up at 4.45am.. felt awful for half of the Thursday .. then fine.. !. felt so bad that I was regretting having it done.. Sorry it sounds like a Craig David song.. x

trevthecat · 21/02/2021 10:40

How are you feeling now? I had mine yesterday morning, by 7pm I felt rough, was in bed at half 8. Temp this morning at 38.9. feel awful! Sure I'll be fine tomorrow!

minipie · 21/02/2021 10:47

I had mine yesterday morning, felt rotten in the evening (shivery and achey) then very sweaty/shivery all night.

Now 24 hrs post vaccine I feel ok, bit weak but fine.

Hope it passes quickly for you all.

Icequeen01 · 21/02/2021 10:48

It's horrible but totally normal. I had mine last Sunday at 1.30pm. I woke up in the middle of the night with a high temp and every bit of me hurting. At first I had a real fright as I have just recovered from Covid but was just outside the 28 days when you can have your jab. When I first woke up I panicked and thought the virus was coming back 😀 I spent Monday in bed feeling rough but by Tuesday I was able to get up and go about my day relatively normally, in between a headache and sore arm so paracetamol was my friend for a couple of days.

yomommasmomma · 21/02/2021 10:53

I would say it lasted 36 hours for me and then fully back to normal. I have been told that more occurrences of side effects are being seen in young people who have been given the AZ jab and it is because they are younger that it creates a bigger immune response, so feeling poorly in this way is a good thing!

I think I might have posted this the other day on one of the other side effects threads, I'm not due to have mine yet but after reading thousands of posts about side effects it is making me a bit nervous. I have a lot of topics hidden and my active convos seems like every 10th thread is about side effects.

I don't want to hide this topic but I think it would be useful to have all the posts on one thread for easy reference and to save having so many of the same thing

minipie · 21/02/2021 10:57

AllThatFancy I agree, and also having one thread would mean it’s more likely the full spectrum of side effects will be reported (including “none” like my dad!) rather than just the worst as tends to be the case when people post on the internet.

trevthecat · 21/02/2021 10:58

@allthatfancy I feel rough but I'd rather of had the jab. 24-48 hours of Illness is better than weeks of covid

Icequeen01 · 21/02/2021 11:02

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair Please don't be put off by the side effects, plenty of people don't get any at all. I have just recovered from Covid and had my jab 32 days after testing positive. I can tell you the side effects are nothing compared to how poorly I felt when I had Covid.

ShowOfHands · 21/02/2021 11:03

I had the AZ yesterday allthatfancy. I didn't even feel it go in. Feel utterly and completely fine. 13 of my colleagues have had it and 8 of my family members. Sore arms in a couple of case but absolutely no sniff of a reaction beyond that.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/02/2021 11:04

@minipie

AllThatFancy I agree, and also having one thread would mean it’s more likely the full spectrum of side effects will be reported (including “none” like my dad!) rather than just the worst as tends to be the case when people post on the internet.
Maybe MNHQ could somehow merge all the threads so that it makes a useful data record. Issues might be missed if posted on 10 different threads, I know at the start of all this there were threads that spotted flaws in statistical analysis before a lot of others did.

I think it would be very helpful to have a dedicated thread for each type of vaccine and build up a full picture

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 21/02/2021 11:07

Thank you @trevthecat and @Icequeen01 logically I know that the vaccine is better than covid but I'm a single parent who doesn't do any high risk things and the possibility of being out of action from the vaccine seems higher than getting covid.

I'm not worried so much about feeling rough as not being able to work and look after my children.

Pops1985 · 21/02/2021 11:11

I had mine yesterday afternoon and aside from a bit of a sore arm I feel totally fine. Now I’m worried it hasn’t worked as it should!

minipie · 21/02/2021 11:35

I understand but with the vaccine you can plan- if you can book to get the vaccine on a Saturday am then the effects are likely to be over by the end of Sunday, have meals pre prepared and TV at the ready...
FuzzyPuffling · 21/02/2021 11:47

I'm the same. Had mine yesterday morning, began to feel off in the evening, fatigue chills, temperature and aches overnight. My temperature is now back to normal and apart from a bit of a headache and a bit of a sore arm if I lean on it, I'm ok. Having an easy day today..

And I am SO glad I've had it done.

Glitterblue · 21/02/2021 12:01

I know 6 people who have had the astra zeneca one.

3 had absolutely no side effects whatsoever (all in their 60s)

1 had aches, bad headache and high temp for a day, then fine the next day, then the symptoms returned for one day then he was fine (40s)

1 felt nauseous and fell asleep for a few hours the same day as the vaccine (70s)

1 had severe sickness and diarrhoea for 2 days then was fine (90s)
