What's your half term looking like? Feeling annoyed

Morning everyone
How is your week going so far? Have you left the house? We haven't. Because even though we are going stir crazy and are sick of walks anyway, we are staying home to stay safe and protect others. My kids a 6 and 9.
My mum rings me for a chat every day and tells me where they've been that day. My parents are mid 70s, reasonable health. Theyve had their first vaccine but they were doing this before.
They are moaning they are bored yet they go to a different shopping town every day, a different supermarket, banks, visit my grandmother multiple times a week and go for a walk and call round at multiple peoples houses daily for a doorstep chat! They are not technically braking any rules but their lives are still so full!! I suppose I'm jealous.
I cannot take two kids traipsing around towns, supermarkets and banks every day just because I'm bored because its not fair to others and I feel like it is increasing our risk of catching covid!
It's getting to the point where I'm very quiet when she rings and I just give her one word answers!
What are you parents doing this week to stay sane without putting others at risk?

Mon - walk in the woods then the park
Tues - park
Weds - park and dentist
Kids are 7, 5 and 2.
I am always surprised people make such a big deal out of half term. It's only a few days.
Tomo we will go to another park.
Fri it will probably rain all day so we have planned baking and learning the ukulele.
When we are not at the park they play, buid lego, draw, paint, watch tv. The week goes so fast. I love taking them on adventures to the woods but decided on an easy life this time as I'm not in the best of health myself and need periods of rest.
I don't understand why anyone would keep their kids in all half term and then complain about it. Essential exercise isn't it?

It's funny because usually I feel a lot of pressure to do paid for activities in the holidays. But we've actually been having a lovely time.

Don't get me wrong I still can't wait for lockdown to end, but we are managing to just make the best of it.

Luckily the weather has been kind so far but I find as long as we get out for some fresh air we are happy to just potter about.

To their houses @buttheywereonlysatilites
One specifically said playing in the garden, but it’s been a bit rainy for that.
@LunaHeather hi, co-founder of Lockdown Loo here. We update Lockdown Loo daily. We also get sent regular updates from people who use the map which helps us ensure it's as accurate as can be - always welcome to new tips!

As an aside, I tend to build supermarkets and petrol stations into my walks (we live in London) as they normally have to keep toilets open for staff.
thank you Grin I like to know where there's a handy loo if we're out for any length of time!

We're having a quiet half term like everyone else, but it's still welcome as DS needed a break from school work and I needed a break from work. DD is also at home (normally at nursery), which brings a different dynamic which is nice.

So far we've mainly played at home, joined a Zoom birthday party, done some baking, little bit of drawing/magazines/crafts, fair amount of TV/screens. Really enjoying the weather being warmer. When it was really cold the last couple of weeks, we mainly just had a brief walk outside or to the playground (and not even that on a lot of weekdays due to work getting in the way). But this week it feels nicer to be outside. Yesterday we went to a country park for a walk and to visit the bird hide there and do some bird spotting. Today we went to a National Trust place about 25 min away for a walk. Nice to have a change of scenery and spend some proper time outside rather than walking around the streets in our village. Next few days will probably be much of the same.

I don't think my DC have done enough exercise since Christmas really, but we've done our best. It was really miserable when it was so cold and DD (3) would just stop and refuse to walk, which of course made things worse as she got even colder!

Just some ideas.
DS1 said he bit bored with lockdown so I gave DS2 a strong hint to invite DS1 and myself to his room for movie evening and sleep over. Snacks etc. Was great fun, they really enjoyed it and I laughed so much.
Also we do click and collect groceries on Saturday evenings. Always make this a big trip out to town and get a takeaway of their choice. Just breaks things up.
Know that doesn't answer your question but may help someone.

3littlewords · 18/02/2021 06:33

With the weather being nicer we've had a long walk every day but yesterday they flat out refused it was a pjs and screen day and that's fine.
They have also camped out in the living room 1 night with a film pizza and a midnight (8pm)feast.

Iootraw1 · 18/02/2021 08:35

Well I announced to my Dd ‘want to come to the dump today? You can help me throw some things it’.

She was thrilled - a trip out at last during half term.

And I’m not kidding - that’s the extent of life for kids at the moment.

Porcupineintherough · 18/02/2021 09:02

We made a list of things people wanted to do (albeit of a very limited range - watch x movie, play y game, eat z food) and are working our way through that plus some longer walks. So nothing very exciting but they are just glad to be off school for a week tbh.

Snowwaiting · 18/02/2021 09:38

Yesterday I took my kids for a walk to a village we don’t know well ...googled for a playground and kids map read to get us there ... got back soaked and mud covered - they said they had a brilliant day ... I think we forget that little things can make a big difference

SeldomFollowedIt · 18/02/2021 09:41

All the parks and all the screens.

SpringtimeBluebells · 18/02/2021 09:48

@Hotcuppatea

You're being ridiculous. Just take them out.
This. Get out for fresh air. It will improve everyone's mood
BigWindow · 18/02/2021 10:39

@SeldomFollowedIt

All the parks and all the screens.
Yes! What else is there? Grin
ssd · 18/02/2021 10:44

My parents are dead, and I really dont know of anyone in their 70s now, but I've read quite a few posts on here where people are feeling like you op, I dont know why SOME of the older generation think they are exempt from government guidelines, just because they dont fancy sticking to them ..

Comefromaway · 18/02/2021 10:49

I'm working but we went to the opticians and shopping at the weekend. Dd has also been working. Dh and ds have been on a couple of walks into town and the local country park. Ds wants me to take him to the bank to pay in his birthday money.

The in laws are coming round tomorrow as its mil's birthday. It's legal as she has severe dementia so we are in a support bubble with fil who is her sole carer.

gingercat02 · 18/02/2021 10:57

Been out weather allowing. Walks, cycling, just mooching about. DS is going to play football with 1 friend today. I've been to see my Mum (she moved 3 streets away Jan 2020!) Had a burgers and film night. Zoom Scouts making pizza tonight. Lots of PS4 and telly. Pancakes on Tuesday
It's been OK

BlackeyedSusan · 18/02/2021 10:57

at the weekend their dad took them out... somewhere muddy judging by the stuff I got back.

screens.

took dd for a walk round the streets and looked at traffic passing.

Spirael · 18/02/2021 10:57

DH and I are both WFH full time, with DC aged 6 and 10. This week has largely involved the DC having excessive amounts of screen time, while DH and I frantically try and catch up with all the work we've fallen behind on over the past few weeks when we've been trying to juggle home-schooling as well.

I've forgotten what it's like to actually leave the house!

SlothWithACloth · 18/02/2021 11:06

Dcs catch up with a bit of homework (older in secondary), get outside for a bit most days. We’ve been to the parks and woods.
Made some bird feeders and were entertained when squirrels and magpies were trying to run off with them.
Baking, games and films.
