Morning everyone
How is your week going so far? Have you left the house? We haven't. Because even though we are going stir crazy and are sick of walks anyway, we are staying home to stay safe and protect others. My kids a 6 and 9.
My mum rings me for a chat every day and tells me where they've been that day. My parents are mid 70s, reasonable health. Theyve had their first vaccine but they were doing this before.
They are moaning they are bored yet they go to a different shopping town every day, a different supermarket, banks, visit my grandmother multiple times a week and go for a walk and call round at multiple peoples houses daily for a doorstep chat! They are not technically braking any rules but their lives are still so full!! I suppose I'm jealous.
I cannot take two kids traipsing around towns, supermarkets and banks every day just because I'm bored because its not fair to others and I feel like it is increasing our risk of catching covid!
It's getting to the point where I'm very quiet when she rings and I just give her one word answers!
What are you parents doing this week to stay sane without putting others at risk?

I managed to rip up half half the lawn dragging the trampoline into the solitary sunbeam that made it into the garden yesterday and that has been brilliant. I'm so glad the snow thawed in time for this week and that it's so much milder.

We have done one trip to the park and one trip to my dm's (because she lives alone and we are bubbled). We have watched one movie, played a few games of Scrabble and ds has caught up on some work he shirked and was rumbled for at the end of term.
And I made some epic pancakes this morning.

All in all, it's going well

Jangle33 · 16/02/2021 14:49

Well clearly your parents are breaking the rules. I’ve got little sympathy if they catch covid.

We are at home apart for daily walk, crafting , playing games watching tv.

Keratinsmooth · 16/02/2021 14:58

Different parks, we’ve discovered new playgrounds, a new lake and a new amazing farm shop. I’ve lived here 14 years. Still walks and things to do.

Im going on an adventure trail tomorrow, to look at horses

Keratinsmooth · 16/02/2021 14:59

We are going to do some art this afternoon

Spied · 16/02/2021 15:05

Our lives are revolving around foodHmm
Today we walked to Subway
Tomorrow we are doing a walk to the new fish shop in town to get a takeaway.
I'm thinking the rest of the week we will plan some meals to make at home!

herecomesthsun · 16/02/2021 15:08

I don't think it's cruel. What can we do? It's the situation.

We did manage to have a very happy lockdown birthday yesterday. We had smoked salmon (on offer from Valentine's Day) and blinis (bought cheap and stored in the freezer). Then we took a shopbought chocolate cake to some local gardens that have just reopened and tramped around happily for a couple of hours. It was too windy for the candles to light up, but we had some fun chocolate decorations as well and birthday DC was very happy.

Birthday DC got a load of craft stuff so has spent this morning making an arty tree covered in hearts.

We have just had some homemade dutch pancakes and we'll probably go for a forest walk in a bit.

They both have instruments, another birthday present was some music to play for fun and the other DC has just joined a band (meeting online) so they are both quite keen on practising.

I don't think this level of restrictions will go on got much longer, hopefully things will be very different by Easter.

Magnificentmug12 · 16/02/2021 15:09

Walk everyday!, so boring and completely over rated this time of year with the cold and the rain! Kids hate it and so do I, why would you go out to be cold after 10 minutes because your soaked! Also the ground is so muddy that you loose your wellies in them!!

Chocolateandamaretto · 16/02/2021 15:10

Long walk yesterday then treated them (lol) to a McDonald's drive through. We did a lot of baking today as it's peeing down, made a big afternoon tea which we ate on a picnic blanket. We'll go for a quick scoot round the block in a bit just to get out! Tomorrow we're going to a national trust garden and we might just get wet - we've all got decent waterproofs. Not sure about later in the week yet but we'll go out every day or we all get a bit cranky. Go to the park or something - I think you sound a bit stir crazy and need to get out anywhere just to break that cabin fever feeling!

sashagabadon · 16/02/2021 15:11

Just been up to London, walked around south bank, went to monument pudding lane and borough market and then tube home. It was very nice. Fair few families doing the same with their kids. It was nice to see

lljkk · 16/02/2021 15:12

tbh, my life this week looks exactly like last week when DC had (online) lessons. Bits of exercise, try to drag DC out for walks, odd little errands, gardening, interrupted spells of WFH, DIY...

My 78yo parents also had 2 jabs, as of 3 weeks ago, and are flexing their new freedoms. They live somewhere where they were never banned from seeing people or going places, but they chose to ban themselves. So now they go to restaurants, maybe shops, on airplanes, and probably will do all sorts of indoor leisure activities.

I don't mind. Their freedoms aren't why I lack freedoms.

Moonface123 · 16/02/2021 15:20

Just got back from a long time ride along the river, very peaceful.
Yesterday , went on long walk around local golf course which is only over the road, also went to B @Q, looked at paint, decorating stuff etc, still deciding what colour to repaint the hallway, also looked at the plants.
I am off work this week so making a pleasant change, lazy mornings , no rushing.
My Mum walks miles with her dog, always has done, she's not interested in shopping, meeting friends, a natural loner, so lockdown is having very little effect.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 16/02/2021 15:24

Good so far. We've been splitting spending time with the kids as we both wfh, to give each other some time to work. Mornings have been out, beach so far (we live a short drive from the coast), afternoons in doing crafty things -and watching cartoons-.

We find the key is getting the kids out of the door quite quickly in the morning, and letting them run around and play outdoors. My nightmare is staying in all day.

And for those bellyaching about not putting others at risk by going out .....there were 6 people on a 2 mile long beach this morning. But way more walking around in the centre of the town I live in, and WAY WAY MORE in the supermarket. So there!

diamondpony80 · 16/02/2021 15:32

Working from home as usual, catching up on schoolwork, going on walks. It's the same as any other week really.

SpnBaby1967 · 16/02/2021 15:35

@JKW36 my kids are very much home bodies and the idea of another walk to them is not attractive. We are lucky to have a couple of play parks close by so they go off to those.

Could you find a play park you havent been to yet & take them there? Outside fresh air is really important, I'd put aside your totally irrational fear over busy play parks and take them out to one.

loulouljh · 16/02/2021 15:37

Deadly boring here. We are working. Kids are bored. Too young for them to go out alone. The usual Grandparents child care not available. It is a rubbish week so far.

Xenia · 16/02/2021 15:38

Week so far? Fine. Working from about 7am every day all day to p[ay the nurses and fund the NHS and furlough and envying all those people wholook after children and don't work and those who get to go on walks! The grass is always greener....

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 16/02/2021 15:42

Lazy day yesterday.I
Today took ds to the skate park early before people got there, it was great, then we went to a park.
Tomorrow think some baking.
Apart from that not much, walks locally and screens.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/02/2021 15:46

Do you want some fish to go with that chip on your shoulder Xenia?

ceeveebee · 16/02/2021 15:51

Some of us have big careers but also (shock horror) are allowed to take annual leave when kids are off school. We are not all one dimensional.

MegBusset · 16/02/2021 15:52

DC are 11 and 13. Yesterday we went for a long walk around local NT place and then stopped for McDonald's on the way home which we ate in the drive-through car park Grin

Today they had a lazy morning then we walked the dog and had pancakes for lunch.

I'm working the rest of the week so they'll be chilling on screens for most of it but will get them outdoors every day

Parker231 · 16/02/2021 15:55

Good week so far ... am enjoying DS being at home doing Uni remotely. He and I have been for a long run before I started work from home.

Going for a walk with the dog and DH after work and then a huge pile of pancakes.

snowydaysandholidays · 16/02/2021 15:56

I have taken the dc to the garden centre, chosen some crafts and we are now doing them for tomorrow's activity. Today we have been doing dance off, been out for a walk and doing pancakes in a minute.

We are then going to a national trust property tomorrow (still open) and will have a hot chocolate at the end.

I am planning to walk with friends on Thursday in twos, to feed the ducks. We are doing a bedroom spring clean

Friday is going to be a pottery day (from local pottery shop) and we are keen to finish them before the holidays to plant with seeds, and I am making an extra one for my mother.

It is only a week, you definitely don't need to stay in!! The weather is at least a little warmer.

Delatron · 16/02/2021 15:58

@Xenia I thought you loved working and not being stuck at home looking after children?!

Now, my job has been affected by the pandemic and I’ve lost 50% of my my clients, self employed so no furlough . To be honest I’d prefer to be working but then as clubs aren’t open the kids would suffer.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/02/2021 16:01

Can't you just get some local under-qualified teenagers to look after your children all day long Delatron? Wink

AnnaSW1 · 16/02/2021 16:06

Can't you take them to the park
