Sunday Times just reported that all schools in England will be back on 8 March

This quote from the article:
"All schoolchildren will return to the classroom on March 8 under plans to start lifting the lockdown, Boris Johnson will announce in a national address next week.

Under the government’s blueprint to reopen society, adults will initially have only small new freedoms so as to prioritise the return of schools — a move ministers know will raise the coronavirus R number for infections.

Adults will be allowed to sit down outdoors for a coffee or on a park bench with one friend, or with members of their own family — a slight relaxation of the current rule, which permits outdoor meetings only while standing up.

The decision to reopen both primary and secondary schools goes against the advice of some government scientists. But the prime minister was swayed by faster than expected reductions in hospital admissions and infections."

@DownWhichOfLate yes, nice aren't they ? They don't like Boris very much so I think they enjoyed doing it.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 13:39

@LimitIsUp so do I. But 3 of my colleagues families were. So I want someone to pay if my health is impacted when it's now preventable.

DownWhichOfLate · 15/02/2021 13:39

Why do two of them need to draft them?

Delatron · 15/02/2021 13:39

No worries @Inastatus I was about to post the same thing but saw you had beat me to it 😊.

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2021 13:39
@Inastatus sorry. But again, low risk is still risk. An unnecessary one when a vaccine is available. If any staff die when we go back then that was preventable - my family will be suing the government if this happens to me.
Interesting. I wonder if anyone else has thought of this yet

WouldBeGood · 15/02/2021 13:40

@Delatron

I think you were right *@Inastatus* to pull up the poster who said they were ‘at a high risk of dying’. I was about to do the same. I’m sick of all the fear mongering and people who claim they will ‘definitely die’ if they get the virus. Such a lack of accurate risk assessment. But then I guess that’s down to media reporting.

I understand people are scared but don’t make inaccurate claims about risk on here.

Totally agree. These claims just don’t help.
WouldBeGood · 15/02/2021 13:44

“High up judges” would advise you to get a solicitor and not cobble together documents for some putative future claim.

I speak from some experience on this.

DownWhichOfLate · 15/02/2021 13:45

@WouldBeGood - yes, sounds rather peculiar.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 13:55

@SpiderinaWingMirror

I never knew we weren't allowed to sit down outdoorsGrin
Really? Well you are allowed to go out to work, do essential shopping, attend appointments, care for others or exercise.

Sitting on a park bench isn't any of those...

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 13:59

@WouldBeGood that's exactly what they did (although they were both practicing barrister/lawyer for many years). The lovely lawyers they have badgered into helping have quite enjoyed drafting it I believe. Lots of zoom calls with me which has been interesting. It's been a team effort. Documents now being sent to everyone at my school - I may send them to union too.

WouldBeGood · 15/02/2021 14:05

It doesn’t surprise me that the high up judges have been practising lawyers first as that’s a job requirement.

Having to badger lawyers into helping doesn’t sound as though your claim is a stick on, tbh.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 14:06

@MarshaBradyo I'm sure they have but it would cost a fortune. Unless you have v nice friends who have made me a pro bono case.
And my circumstances are quite specific - I'm 53 (so government acknowledges I am at higher risk as they have made a category for my age), I'm on medication (not CV but enough to heighten safety concerns) and I live with just my DH who wfh. We on line shop and don't leave the house except to walk the dog. Except I go to school. I hope it never gets used. But it has kept friends busy for weeks and they seem to had some good old arguments with other colleagues about it. Lawyers do seem to like decaying stuff.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 14:07

@WouldBeGood I believe they have very much enjoyed doing it. For some reason taking the government to court seems quite appealing to them. Hopefully they don't need to. But you'll know who I am if they do.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/02/2021 14:08

😂😂😂

WouldBeGood · 15/02/2021 14:08

I shall look forward to the court reports @mumsneedwine

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 14:10

@Chollok

Does anyone here accept that for certain children being at school is actually worse for their mental health than not being at school?

Not that I'm saying all schools should be closed for that reason but the blanket "it's better for children's mental health to be at school" is really starting to irritate me.

There are plenty of other things proven to be "better" for children's mental health that no one shouts about in this country at all but this thing that coincidentally massively inconveniences parents as well as children is suddenly the major factor in mental health.

I find it disingenuous.

It is indeed!
DownWhichOfLate · 15/02/2021 14:10

I think we will all find them fascinating!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 14:16

@HazeyJaneII

Fuck. I really thought the government would be sensible and wait until after Easter.
Yes, I hoped they would too, but it appears the whinging back benchers might have persuaded him otherwise due to his need to be liked, it's got nothing to do with kids & everything to do with getting parents back to work (those that can't work with kids at home) & get hospitality open (which can't happen until kids are back at school because they've saud kids back at school will come first.

Let's not kid ourselves it's for the children or that it's 'safe'

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2021 14:16

I’d love to know the details of what’s been sent

There was a couple back in April who were in press re suing

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/coronavirus-doctors-launch-legal-action-over-governments-ppe-guidance-11977869

Not sure what outcome was

You never know it might get picked up it is unusual

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 14:17

@HazeyJaneII

...have just realised how ridiculous the words - the government would be sensible are, what was I thinking.
🤔 🤣🤣🤣
sherrystrull · 15/02/2021 14:18

Some very smug people here criticising school staff saying they are over inflating their sense of risk.

It's very easy to say the risk is low when you're not in that situation.

I have said many times that people criticising others and saying they have overinflated their sense of risk is arrogant.

It is also really tasteless to pick apart people's posts who have stated they might get legal support should they die and how they can't possibly know they've caught covid in a school.

Would you say that to a nurse? Or someone working in Sainsbury's? Or a police man?

Rosesaresweet · 15/02/2021 14:21

Let's not kid ourselves it's for the children

I know a lot of children and teens who will benefit hugely from going back to school on March 8th! And I'm very happy for them Smile

SpringisSpinning · 15/02/2021 14:22

The moth I agree I've just sat through endless Oak academy doing all this... Seems pointless when we first need dd to be inspired to write!

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 14:22

@WouldBeGood you do realise you've just said you hope I die 😫

MarshaBradyo · 15/02/2021 14:23

Let's not kid ourselves it's for the children

What a crazy statement
