Sunday Times just reported that all schools in England will be back on 8 March

This quote from the article:
"All schoolchildren will return to the classroom on March 8 under plans to start lifting the lockdown, Boris Johnson will announce in a national address next week.

Under the government’s blueprint to reopen society, adults will initially have only small new freedoms so as to prioritise the return of schools — a move ministers know will raise the coronavirus R number for infections.

Adults will be allowed to sit down outdoors for a coffee or on a park bench with one friend, or with members of their own family — a slight relaxation of the current rule, which permits outdoor meetings only while standing up.

The decision to reopen both primary and secondary schools goes against the advice of some government scientists. But the prime minister was swayed by faster than expected reductions in hospital admissions and infections."

Let's not forget that the spin in wales about schools going back on 22feb is misrepresenting things. Only yrs up to 2 (age7) are going back in wales. All kids aged8+ remain at home with minimal education.

@Orangeblossom1977

As a previously shielding teacher CEV have all been offered the vaccine?
CEV have but not CV.
Inastatus · 15/02/2021 13:06
@Inastatus I'm not saying there is a high risk. I'm saying there is a risk, which is increased if in a crowded room with no social distancing or masks. And a small risk is still shit if you are the one that statistically is that risk.
@mumsneedwine - You are getting confused. I was referring to pissedoff’s post where she stated there was a high risk of dying - it is wrong to say that.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 13:08

@Inastatus sorry. But again, low risk is still risk. An unnecessary one when a vaccine is available. If any staff die when we go back then that was preventable - my family will be suing the government if this happens to me.

Inastatus · 15/02/2021 13:09

@Pissedoff1234

That should be a higher risk than those under 40 and with no underlying conditions.
@Pissedoff1234 - yes, that is more correct. A ‘higher‘ risk but still relatively low.
LimitIsUp · 15/02/2021 13:09

For that to be effective you would have to prove that you contracted Covid via school

OP posts:
Inastatus · 15/02/2021 13:11

@mumsneedwine - for goodness sake, I understand there is ‘a’ risk - obviously! I was pulling up the other poster when she said there was a ‘high’ risk of dying - that is simply not true!

Pissedoff1234 · 15/02/2021 13:14

@Inastatus But my point is that it is a risk that doesn't have to happen for the sake of 3 weeks where kids may well be self isolating due to close contact with a positive person anyway. 3 weeks to cover those over 50 and vulnerable.

And whereas last time the virus had the very vulnerable to target, now it will be going for the next available targets and possibly mutating to something that affects those people more.

I would rather send them back after Easter than have to do this in/out business for the rest of the year.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 13:15

@LimitIsUp 😂😂 ah that old chestnut. How about you have to prove I didn't ? As I only go to work and no where else, and my husband works from home, I think it would be hard to prove I caught it anywhere else.
@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants which other papers please?
Sorry I didn't see your post last night.

I was saw the various papers on the news, it was a debate between limited year groups M8th v 'Big Bang' all kids back but on a letter date.

It'll be interesting to see what he says today - I'm guessing, 'more on Monday 22nd we have to look at real time data!

unmarkedbythat · 15/02/2021 13:19

The virus is not self aware. It doesn't sit there making plans of who to target and how to mutate.

Not difficult.

I go to school and mix at very close quarters with large numbers of children without a mask, then I come home. I get the shopping delivered. DH has WFH since March.

Perhaps some people on here would argue that the Tesco man gave it to me.

Yes, I understand your argument. The issue I had was with your statement that there is a high risk of dying of covid! You have now amended that - thank you.

Inastatus · 15/02/2021 13:26

I don’t think anyone will get very far trying to sue the Govt for contracting COVID during a pandemic!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/02/2021 13:26

@Beebityboo

With no extra safety mitigations for children or staff, still no real recognition this is airborne, and it's been stated a few times that children are much more likely to get the new variant than the original. I'm disabled and though I'm not on a priority list for the vaccine I am still so, so scared I will catch it when the DC's go back. It feels inevitable. Though I know they need to be back in school for their well being. I don't know what the answer is Sad.
@Beebityboo

Having read lots of your posts previously, I'd be allowing DD1 to stay home (how is she doing now?) and keeping the others off until Easter. From what I remember their school seem pretty understanding of your situation.

See how things go forward a few more weeks.

Have you spoken to your GP/any specialists? I personally think anyone classified as disabled should be high up the list, not just in their age group. It's worth asking if you haven't already.

LimitIsUp · 15/02/2021 13:28

Oh dear, bless you

You realise that the burden of proof in a court of law is very rigorous?

Not quite sure why you are getting quite so upset with me for merely pointing this out 🤷‍♀️

Thanks Fuckingcrustybread - not like I killed anyone is it Grin
There may have been a few heart attacks or nervous breakdowns!!

Alcoa suppliers being overwhelmed etc.

Frankly, anyone who took it seriously & didn't just roll their eyes needs to have a think about their own mistakes, not yours!

I'm not sure you understand what 'prove' means Hmm

Delatron · 15/02/2021 13:32

I think you were right @Inastatus to pull up the poster who said they were ‘at a high risk of dying’. I was about to do the same. I’m sick of all the fear mongering and people who claim they will ‘definitely die’ if they get the virus. Such a lack of accurate risk assessment. But then I guess that’s down to media reporting.

I understand people are scared but don’t make inaccurate claims about risk on here.

mumsneedwine · 15/02/2021 13:32

@LimitIsUp you'll be surprised. Have 2 v high up judges as friends and they have drafted the documents for my family. I really hope it's not needed but it will be messy if they are. I'm not leaving my kids with no way to finish their education because my income has gone. Someone will pay.

LimitIsUp · 15/02/2021 13:34

Well, I sincerely hope your family aren't put in that position

OP posts:
DownWhichOfLate · 15/02/2021 13:36

@mumsneedwine - you have 2 judge friends who have both spent time drafting docs for your family?

Inastatus · 15/02/2021 13:37

@Delatron - thank you for grasping my issue so easily - others seemed to be struggling so much with it! 😊
