I see a lot about when should schools open in the press, but very little about what should be in place before they reopen. Wondering what the feeling is - I imagine it’s a whole spectrum 🤷‍♀️

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

government backing of children who refuse to comply being sent home for the duration of the pandemic (those that deliberately cough shouting 'corona' or spit at others) what the hell is wrong with you, these are children and this is not North Korea. You would deny a 9 year old boy an education for messing around, Get a grip!

None of the proposed measures are different, all you are talking about is greater enforcement, which I’m not necessarily against although I greatly object to masks being worn in classes.

Fact is either the vaccine lessons the symptoms, we all learn to live with this virus or the vaccine doesn’t work and we have to live with this virus.

Yes I would deny a 9 year old an education in a classroom with others if they were coughing over someone else and spitting because pandemic aside it's horrible behaviour and needs dealt with and at 9 years old its something they should know better ! (SEN aside)

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

You are not allowed a chair - put it back. And make sure you don't share your popcorn.

@chocolateisavegetable 😂

And today more headlines about when, why aren’t the press asking how we are going to make them safer, to avoid being back in this square pretty quick. And to protect the health of our children, families and teachers.

Children deserve so much better. It doesn’t have to be this shoddy.

This epidemiologist says what she thinks is required for a safe return to school that doesn't result in the same spike in cases seen before.

BrokenCircle · 14/02/2021 16:00

Some of the small number of children in my school now are refusing to wash their hands when asked. There’s nothing we can do about it.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/02/2021 16:11

Do schools now need to be safer than Autumn 2020? A significant proportion of the elderly and vulnerable are now at least partially covered by the vaccine (and thus are pretty much guaranteed not to need hospitalisation).

So does it actually matter if people catch covid if they are jabbed / not vulnerable / young / healthy?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/02/2021 16:15

Yes, because the new variant is 70% more transmissible. So they need to be much safer. Plenty if parents in 50’s not been vaccinated yet.

PatriciaValiant · 14/02/2021 16:34

Yes they do need to be made safer to try to reduce transmission. A large proportion of people in ICU are under 70.

RandomGrammarPun · 14/02/2021 16:36

Almost half, to be clear.

How the actual fuck is spitting at someone an acceptable level of ‘messing around’? Ever?!

I agree. All children aged 7 plus should be expected to follow basic covid guidance.

One of our local secondary schools with an extremely high covid rate in November and December was notorious for the school buses being a total zoo. Two or three kids sat wearing masks, and the other 30+ with no masks, and the majority face to face a few inches away from each other. I saw it every day on my (walking) school run. To think that they were needlessly spreading covid between them and also going home to pass it on to their parents without giving a shit was really depressing.

tinytemper66 · 14/02/2021 20:53

In our secondary school in Wales pupils and teachers have been wearing them since September; some staff since the phased return in June.
