So not allowed to book a holiday but what about going away to stay with family or friends?? Or even second home (or someone else's second home?)

Is it about travel or meeting people?

OP posts:
Wigeon · 10/02/2021 17:45

None of those things are currently allowed.

YogaLite · 10/02/2021 17:46

Yes, I know that, but they are talking about summer???

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/02/2021 17:48

As far as the travel ban goes, it's the same thing.

Lissy23 · 10/02/2021 17:56

Most people have booked a holiday. The majority of UK holiday places are fully booked. Quite a few Tory MPs cross at the comments made earlier.

whataboutbob · 10/02/2021 17:58

The cottage we stayed at last year in Wales was fully booked for summer 2021 booked from about November. We’re hoping to go abroad, you never know. A lot can change between now and spring.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 17:59

What is wrong with staying put and following the rules? Is it really so hard?

lljkk · 10/02/2021 17:59

You need to get into self-flagellation mode OP.
No fun allowed.
No breaks away where you might enjoy the company of your loved ones.
Tsk Tsk. How granny-murdering of you to even consider such ideas.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/02/2021 18:01

A change of supermarket would feel like a holiday just now.

DianaT1969 · 10/02/2021 18:04

I am finding it strange why they are getting so strict on travel now, when they didn't for the first year of the pandemic. We have a vaccine rollout, but they are talking about no travel instead of giving the travel and tourism sector a boost. I get that they know other countries might not want us. Plus, if it's a reciprocal agreement they may not want people coming here. But it's early February and they are tanking the summer season domestic market too.

lovemirage · 10/02/2021 18:06

Staying at PIL's isn't a holiday. My family is abroad so not sure if we can go there.

Is it beyond your wit that actually yes, yes it is very hard for some people Hmm

lurker101 · 10/02/2021 18:08

I think it’s not necessarily that we won’t be able to do it later in the year, simply the Govt can’t promise that we will, as anything can change with the virus situation. They don’t want to be have the same situation they had with Christmas, where they said we could all mix, then changed the rules after many people had made plans. By saying it’s too early to book a holiday, anyone booking is definitely at their own risk, and has no comeback against govt or holiday companies if it turns out the situation changes for the worse.

Many people had holidays last summer within the rules, I don’t see things being anything but better this year, but the govt. rightly won’t make any promises of a summer holiday.

SpaceRaiders · 10/02/2021 18:09

I’m guessing going to centre parks in April was overly optimistic.

teenagetantrums · 10/02/2021 18:10

We booked for UK in June. Can get money by back if not allowed to travel. Places were getting booked up quickly.

x2boys · 10/02/2021 18:10

They said it's to early yet to say wether holidays ,can go ahead but they hope to give clarity soon ,so nobody knows yet .

Yes, it's really hard. What is wrong with it is the fact my children can't see their grandparents. Saw one set last summer and the others for a fleeting visit in October.

Hope that helps to answer your question.

jiggetyjig · 10/02/2021 18:15

We booked a cottage in UK for September. The accommodation we booked has free cancellation so we won't be out of pocket f we can't travel.

Most people? Eh? No one I know has even begun to think about holidays!
x2boys · 10/02/2021 18:17

My children can't see their Grandparents either and we live 8 miles away ,but nobody knows what's happening with holidays yet they are not saying no holidays they are just saying it's to early

I don't get why they don't let everyone travel to wherever they want, and then just force them to pay for hotel accommodation for 14 days when they return before they are allowed to go home.

Then people who have a a month off can still get away for two weeks in the sun, it just costs them an extra £1750 and all they need to do is hope that the country they go to doesn't lock them in a hotel at that end.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 18:23

What they meant was, most middle class people of means who can't be bothered following the rules and are desperate for something to grasp onto the give their lives meaning. It's quite a cliquey thing in some circles.

YogaLite · 10/02/2021 18:27

I recall Matt Hancock saying he booked Cornwall... hope he is asked about next time he is doing the briefing..

StanfordPines · 10/02/2021 18:29

I haven’t booked anything yet.

If we do it’ll only be a night or two in a hotel in this country.
We were bloody lucky to get every single penny of our money back from our cancelled Easter holiday last year. I’m not risking that again

islockdownoveryet · 10/02/2021 18:30

I’m sorry but in the grand scheme of things worrying about a holiday is far down on my list of things to worry about .if they start letting people freely fly without consequences but still restrictions here then we are just going to pay for it again . I had a holiday abroad booked for last year that got cancelled too so course would love a holiday .
Priority should be get schools open then being able to see people then see about letting people go on holiday abroad it’s too early to discuss this when we don’t even know when schools will open.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 18:30

Very wise, but I think you picked the sweet spot between the summer nutters and the government's reaction to them, and the October firebreak lockdown which we'll be told in necessary so that we don't have a repeat of last Christmas, which of course we will have, but they'll blame it on the Timbuktu Variant and news out of the WHO that they discovered that the virus originated in Mongolian Mongooses which may, or may not, have been intentionally let loose from the Russia's weapons research lab at Chita.
