Healthy over 40s being vaccinated

sunshine7981 · 10/02/2021 15:35

Hi

Over the last couple of days people I know in their forties and fifties have been invited for vaccination in Enfield borough in London. Does anyone know how they have got so far down the priority list already?

My Mum and Dad live in Enfield have both been jabbed and they are in their fifties, not CEV or anything - person jabbing her had a no idea!

steppemum · 10/02/2021 15:43

I would imagine it is because they have a lots of cavvine and are working down the list.

That either means lots of people are not taking up their invitation, or they have a massively super efficient vaccination centre, or they have more vaccine than their fair share!

Cloudsurfing · 10/02/2021 15:45

It could be that they just have a high proportion of younger people so they got through the older groups more quickly.

islockdownoveryet · 10/02/2021 15:56

Well there must be a reason I’m early 40s and healthy and have had it but because I took my son who’s vulnerable and they offered it to me . But as I’m classed as a unpaid carer I can have it anyway is that possibly the reason ? Did you not ask why ?

sunshine7981 · 10/02/2021 16:00

The people I know asked but the vaccinators did not know why they had got to them

DD is in her late 20's with no health conditions and she has had it. There were a few spare doses at the vaccine site near her work place and they rang over to see if anybody wanted them. DD and some colleagues were just leaving work so wandered across the road and had the jab.

Maybemay123 · 10/02/2021 16:06

Could be many reasons efficient staff/systems, fewer elderly, low take up of some groups, more vacancies than other areas.
Its annoying because I have a dc who is shielding and waiting for vaccination but our gp has not received any and neither have the other areas in our town. 2 miles away and across a county border they have vacancies.

Boulshired · 10/02/2021 16:14

I would put this down to low take up rather than just being efficient.

Morph2lcfc · 10/02/2021 16:15

I’ve just had mine and I’m
47 and healthy. It is because my child has asd so I’m
Classed as a carer

noblegiraffe · 10/02/2021 16:16

There's an issue with lower take-up in London compared to other areas of the country. Possibly related to lower take-up by BAME communities.

Pinkmarsh · 10/02/2021 16:26

@islockdownoveryet - my vulnerable adult son has had it, I’m an unpaid carer and haven’t been offered it.

PercyPiginaWig · 10/02/2021 16:37

For the people who are being randomly vaccinated like a PP's daughter, or those accompanying someone else to an appointment, or some of my colleagues who get a shout out that there are some available - are they automatically then included or on a list for the second dose?

Barracker · 10/02/2021 16:39

are they automatically then included or on a list for the second dose?

Yes. Its usually scheduled before they leave.

AgnesNaismith · 10/02/2021 16:42

Ugh, I live in a sleepy town and my GP surgery is now going down the age bands....not by section....by year...so this week is people aged 69.

The town next door are onto category 5, which is very frustrating particularly as a national centre is down the road.

AgnesNaismith · 10/02/2021 16:43

@Pinkmarsh have you registered as an unpaid carer with your GP? It’s not automatic...

PercyPiginaWig · 10/02/2021 16:45

Thanks @Barracker I know my parents had their second appointment date arranged when they went for the first dose but wasn't sure about the 'drop ins' or 'random vaccine receivers' (maybe someone will coin a phrase).

Dinky2004 · 10/02/2021 16:49

I'm 44 type 1 diabetic and am a home care worker, haven't had a vaccine yet and no letter about it.
Seems to be where you live atm

TheyIsMyFamily · 10/02/2021 16:56

Makes me a bit cross, as I'm over 50 and in a school day in and day out...

Hi, are you employed as a Horne Carer? If your employer is regulated by CQC- which they should be- they should have been asked to issue you a link to book. All of our staff across multi locations across the UK have been sent the links

Why have you not been offered it through work?

Lelophants · 10/02/2021 17:07

No idea but better than wasting them! Id be so up for it!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 10/02/2021 17:08

Group 5 is people aged 65 to 69. So both the areas you talk about are on the same group

The town next door are onto category 5, which is very frustrating particularly as a national centre is down the road.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/02/2021 17:11

DD has been told that she should be called back at the end of March for her second and to inform her GP that she has had the 1st dose.

Oaktree55 · 10/02/2021 17:12

My uncles in that Borough over 80 was vax first dose Pfizer prior to xmas second 3 weeks later. They just seem incredibly efficient there, so doesn’t surprise me they’re ahead given how early he was vaccinated.

Jaxhog · 10/02/2021 17:16

It's a postcode lottery. My 91-year-old mum only had hers 3 weeks ago and her carer (my sister) wasn't offered one.

I guess the important thing is that many people are getting jabbed.
