Healthy over 40s being vaccinated

Hi

Over the last couple of days people I know in their forties and fifties have been invited for vaccination in Enfield borough in London. Does anyone know how they have got so far down the priority list already?

@Oaktree55

My uncles in that Borough over 80 was vax first dose Pfizer prior to xmas second 3 weeks later. They just seem incredibly efficient there, so doesn’t surprise me they’re ahead given how early he was vaccinated.
And yet, when the North was ahead of the game with vaccinations they decided it wasn't fair and they should be diverted elsewhere to keep things even. Hmm

A friend of mine is in her mid forties, no health conditions and had hers today. She’s not sure why she got called. She’s in Haringey.

More concerned that vulnerable people are more likely refusing the jab than some areas are getting ahead. We are still in group 4 here but it’s good knowing that all the over 75s have a 90+% uptake.

If you have had a shielding letter you are eligible and can book through the nhs website, even if you haven't received your invitation letter.
I think Enfield has a large hub, maybe that is why they are getting through faster.

Re BAME groups not taking up the offer.

Why not?

Because the virus makes them more vulnerable, doesn’t it? And if they refuse it, there will be more deaths in this group, and we will no doubt be told that it’s because of health inequalities in minority groups, when everyone is being offered this equally, but some are choosing to decline it?

A surgery in Harrow was asking for anyone to come in because they had so few people turn up for the vaccine. It’s a largely BAME area and many people are refusing to take it. My cousin and several of her colleagues, all in their early 20s, went and had theirs done. I’d rather that then it go to waste.

Isn't Enfield in one of the areas where they have found the South Africa variant? If so, then that would explain why they are steaming ahead with as many vaccines as possible.

Good point

@AgnesNaismith - yes. He’s an adult now. I always get offered the flu jab.

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady you’re right - sorry! Feelings of injustice are now diminished Blush
