Do we all at home have to self isolate? DP doesn't work from home and our fridge is empty as I was due to go shopping today ;(

The Morrisons is probably around 20mi from my DPs work, he doesn't drive so it's not much help either. I think we'll have to have a kebab tonight and the baby has pasta from yesterday. I literally have no pulses, tomato pasta, no bread nor potatoes. I have 3 slices of Serrano ham and a block of cheese and two bananas. There's no tuna either, I know things could be worse but the car breaking down didn't help!

Just go and get your shopping and prescription OP, there is absolutely no need for you to isolate, and it doesn’t sound like your child needs to either. Wear a mask and be strict about distancing, it’s fine.

We are nearly a year into a pandemic. How can people be this unprepared for exactly this kind of scenarioHmm

supersonicginandtonic · 10/02/2021 16:23

When was you baby last in nursery?

When was the Covid positive baby last in nursery?

The answer to these two questions will tell you if you need to isolate them!

supersonicginandtonic · 10/02/2021 16:24

@FlatteredRhubardFool if you had 4 teens/pre-teens in your house like I do, no amount of preparation will see you have enough food in. It seems to evaporate.

Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 16:38

Yes I've asked to be clarified if the baby in question was in on Monday. They haven't replied but I've just realised I can figure it out with the daily photos they send as I know the baby wasn't in yesterday.

Me neither. Even in large families it’s still possible to have a store of pasta, soup etc in case of self isolation.
Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 17:03

As mentioned we've already has to go through continuous semi self isolation. It all started 3 weeks ago when he had a cough and I had to get him tested. I was going to do the weekly shop as usual over the weekend but the car broke down and we had a full house with all four children so food does disappear on those days!

Xerochrysum · 10/02/2021 17:05

You have a baby, you live semi rurally, and your dh don't drive, but you have no stock of any emergency supplies....
I think you need to have a bit of strategy for emergencies.

Xerochrysum · 10/02/2021 17:07

Wait, cross posted. You have 4 children, and still not prepared for any emergencies in global pandemic?

supersonicginandtonic · 10/02/2021 17:34

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss but how many teens do you know who would happily eat a can of crappy soup for their tea every day 🤮 mine wouldn't.
I'm ok though as we have family that drop up food off when we're isolating.

OP you aren't answering the question. When we're your baby and the positive baby last together?

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/02/2021 17:46

How old is your oldest child? Can’t they go to the shops and chemist?

Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 17:55

The one who's currently with me is 10, so not old enough.

Heyha · 10/02/2021 17:58

Morrisons Amazon is quite often next day and if not they do the food boxes delivered by DPD in different combos. I don't think you have to have a store nearby for the boxes.

Is there no Co-op/One Stop/Nisa type of shop around your DP's public transport route? They open late and sell basics to keep you going.

Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 17:59

I've asked the nursery for specifics but they haven't replied. Photos from Monday and Tuesday have the same recipients and the nursery nurses told me the baby hadn't attended yesterday, which implies baby wasn't there on Monday.

do you have some custard? or rice? or milk?
any tins? or flour or marg/butter?
banana custard or rice pud? & as I said previously op - ask for help with volunteers
any frozen veg? or spices/herbs?
if you have flour (particularly sr)you can make vegan equivalent of pancakes (google recipes for this)
go through your cupboards you may have more than you think
ie tinned or dried milk - sugar salt baked beans sweetcorn? tinned fruit?

mumwon · 10/02/2021 18:33

(having had dc at uni who use to ring me for recipes with 3 ingredients I am quite imaginative! so have look in store cupboard for anything & lets see if combined mn can give advice) Morrisons do emergency basic box delivery I believe?
So could your 10 year old go into shop with list while you stand outside with baby?

Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 18:52

I was able to find a tin of tuna, spring onions and had some baking margarine and flour made some weird tuna pie, but it tasted ok!

Bit you don't need to isolate if your baby hasn't seen the baby in question for 48 hrs before symptoms? Sounds like they haven't been in the same room for over 2 wks?

So, annoying nursery is closed, but not a case for isolation?

Fressia123 · 10/02/2021 19:14

I don't think my DS has seen the baby, I've asked the nursery for confirmation but they haven't replied

OP posts:
supersonicginandtonic · 10/02/2021 19:21

By the sounds of it OP you don't need to be isolating your baby.

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/02/2021 19:28

I would calm down, baby stays home you or your partner can go food shopping tomo, I doubt you have absolutely nothing for tonight.
