Extending school term at end of July

That's not going to work. Another ridiculous idea. What about all those people that moved their cancelled holidays for 2020 by a year. Summer holidays may go ahead if vaccine roll out happens and who is going to cancel and lose their money - I'm not. Will be lots of absent children.

I just realised...we will also be preparing our children to work long and hard. Who needs a life!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/02/2021 19:00

I'm not offering to do someone else's job.

daisychains8 · 07/02/2021 19:01

As a teacher I hope the government with refund my 2 weeks in Cornwall, which I've already booked. In fact most of my teacher friends have booked their summer hols too- mostly for the end of July.
They've left it far too late to introduce it for this summer.

DBML · 07/02/2021 19:02

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

But you expect others to do it, despite them not being contracted to do it...hmm?

Pinkmarsh · 07/02/2021 19:03

I’d be very happy for some extra support for my kids who have both fallen behind. Remote learning has been absolutely crap. Maths delivered via a paid for app. My son got every question wrong in Maths the other day with me helping him. We’re none the wiser where we went wrong so learned nothing! That’s not teaching. They’re young teens one in year 9 and one in year 10. To say I’m worried is an understatement.

Some kids haven’t fallen behind though and some schools have done brilliantly with online classing so it’s not fair on those kids.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/02/2021 19:03

No, I expected some paid to do teaching to actually do teaching?

Is that hard to understand?

DBML · 07/02/2021 19:05

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Yes it is hard to understand.
If a teacher is paid for 195 days work a year, what would you expect them to do more?

See...I find that entitled and unreasonable and therefore difficult to understand.

sherrystrull · 07/02/2021 19:05

I've rescheduled my holiday from last year for the beginning of the holiday. Not abroad but still a seaside holiday for my dc. I'm not even joking when I say that cancelling it might push me to resign. I truly love my job and I'm a very good tea her but I've had enough

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 19:06

@ChardonnaysPetDragon, Exactly, we're paid to teach 195 days a year, which ends on or around 20th July, 2020 for this year. Those fabulous holidays aren't paid.
So, can you explain why you think any teacher should welcome the idea of continuing into August?

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 19:06

*2021

Wafflewife · 07/02/2021 19:09

Not gonna happen - why waste energy on this nonsense?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/02/2021 19:10

Exactly.

From I see I cannot be that many schools/teachers actually did the equivalent of 195 days of teaching.

But of course they will disagree.

It’s just my opinion, no need to get defensive. Unless there is a reason for it.

motherrunner · 07/02/2021 19:10

I’m off on holiday on the 24th July for 3 weeks. Hope the Government are willing to reimburse me 5k.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/02/2021 19:10

Cannot believe

jambeforeclottedcream · 07/02/2021 19:10

It's a no from me

As I've said before in threads of this nature before.
1)I work TTO how will I be paid for 2 extra weeks work?
2) people will have already booked holiday/ had it rolled over from last year. How will they be honoured refunded etc?
3) I live in Cornwall the local economy will be crippled if they lose 2 weeks of the crucial summer holiday tourist season.

DBML · 07/02/2021 19:12

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I always get defensive when people are being assholes.

What do you do Dragon?

MrsHamlet · 07/02/2021 19:13

I'd still like to know what the point is.

DBML · 07/02/2021 19:13

Let’s all decide whether other people in other jobs are working hard enough! Isn’t that a lovely way to live!

Post your job below and let us be the judge...

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 19:14

I've already done my 195 days equivalent, actually.

bananasplitsallround · 07/02/2021 19:14

Something provision needs to be made for children to catch up. Mine don't need a break. They need an education.

Remmy123 · 07/02/2021 19:15

Id like my kids to have a bit extra in the summer yes. But teachers will say 'no' they're just not up for it!!

DBML · 07/02/2021 19:15

@bananasplitsallround

Why don’t you get them some private tuition over the holidays then? Or sign them up for the military?
DBML · 07/02/2021 19:16

@Remmy123

You took the words right out of my mouth...though not the exact words Wink

mumsneedwine · 07/02/2021 19:16

@CallmeAngelina and me. I in fact stopped being paid on January 5th (I counted). So every day I now work is effectively unpaid. Yeah.

CallmeAngelina · 07/02/2021 19:16

@bananasplitsallround, "catch up" with what? Some arbitrary targets set by an out-of-touch minister who's never even set foot inside a state school?
