Wtf do I say to him? Anyone seen any decent articles online?
Friend is also clinically vulnerable and saying he won't get it. He also isn't the only person I know who thinks this either.Confused

TBH I wouldn't put it past some of the more power-crazed people on the world. I don't think it's in these vaccines though. There are so many different scientists involved, surely one of them would have spotted it by now.

Frogartist · 06/02/2021 22:32

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee

If he has smart phone or uses any kind of social media then he is already being tracked.... we all are!

Yeah, this

That's not the same at all, and it's not about whether you "go somewhere interesting " either.

No I don't believe that the vaccine contains a microchip.

PondDipper · 06/02/2021 22:36

Maybe most of these conspiracy theorists will get wiped out as Darwin’s theory suggests. Leave them to it Hmm

ElectraBlue · 06/02/2021 22:39

Yes, it is all a microchip conspiracy and aliens are behind it. Boris Johnson is in fact a Dalek in disguise waiting to barcode us all...

Seriously when someone is that paranoid there is little you can do to make them see sense...

Moondust001 · 06/02/2021 22:41

Rubbish. The government is not putting microchips in the vaccine. Seriously, who would think the government were that smart? It's little grey aliens that are putting them in the vaccine.

KatharinaRosalie · 06/02/2021 22:41

Yes Bill Gates really wants to know if you went to Tesco or Asda today, Gary.

LizzieMacQueen · 06/02/2021 22:45

Tell him one phial contains 5 doses so how would they know there was a chip in your 1/5 dose?

Buttybach · 06/02/2021 22:45

Has he been watching the 80s classic inner space!

Stinkywizzleteets · 06/02/2021 22:47

So I watched my GP draw up my vaccine dose yesterday from a bottle. How did she ensure the chips were equally Distributed among all recipients from the same bottle and I don’t have all 5 chips in my Arm.... aargh 😂😂😂 you might want to put that conundrum to your pal, maybe he’ll be lucky and his chip is in someone else’s arm 😂 - the. get him to pose for a selfie with his phone camera that will be able to pinpoint where he was exactly the moment the photo was taken, voluntarily upload to FB who can then work out it’s him and who he is with and direct adverts to his timeline based on the variables he provides them and suggest friends based on people you both may know .

These people are bonkers

TravellingTilbury · 06/02/2021 22:50

Maybe some people have got microchips and nanoparticles mixed up; some of the vaccines obviously do contain nanoparticles: "The active substance in each dose is 0.10 mg mRNA encoding the pre-fusion stabilized Spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 embedded in lipid nanoparticles."

Whoopsmahoot · 06/02/2021 22:51

Yup my parents in their eighties have just been chipped, they are a great risk to the government 🤣

marshmallowfluffy · 06/02/2021 23:05

You can't reason with thinking like this.
If you want to keep the friendship you'll have to say nothing and remember not to tell him when you get your vaccine.
If you're not bothered by the friendship then you might want to cool down the friendship so you're not caught unaware with his comments about vaccines.

CKL987 · 06/02/2021 23:12

My husband has just completely cut off a friend for these kinds of opinions. His feeling is that is was fine to have these conspiracy opinions before a global pandemic as being anti vax wasn't really killing loads of people, but now there is no place for it. He says that there is no point in engaging with them as you won't change their minds. I think he has run out of patience because he is from the USA, and as well as the covid bullshit, has seen too much Trump shit over the last 4 years.

I'm more inclined to try and engage, and as well as find some science papers, also try to get them explain their theories in order to find the holes. I still feel the urge to tit punch them though.

CKL987 · 06/02/2021 23:15

I also wonder why people think Bill Gates wants to chip people. Surely Bezos would have the most to gain? He's already the clear winner over the last year.

TravellingTilbury · 06/02/2021 23:21

I think Bezos resigned last week, CKL987? But I'm pretty sure Bill Gates doesn't want to track people though - he is too busy buying up US farmland and making money.

RedToothBrush · 06/02/2021 23:27

I have a friend who works in the tech industry. Part of his job involves designing devices which require microchips. His response to this conspiracy theory was 'hell why can't i get my hands on this microscopic technology, it would make my life so much easier!'. He said that if they can get a microchip into the needle to put into your arm on a mass scale, why the hell arent we using the same technology for things like headphones and phones and computers?

NorbertMeubles · 06/02/2021 23:30

You can't argue with stupid

marshmallowfluffy · 06/02/2021 23:33

I would have imagined Google would have more to gain than Gates too. Or Google and Amazon want info on each other's customers Grin

It made me laugh how many Qanon believers had smart phones in the Capitol building on 6 Jan.

TravellingTilbury · 06/02/2021 23:35

re: the 'microchips in needles in arms' maybe some people are thinking of the technology proposed by the 'vaccine patch' that is being developed? It's no secret but perhaps easy for people to think that the current vaccines have hidden micro needles when they don't.

TravellingTilbury · 06/02/2021 23:52

In terms of a 'tracking' element, maybe some people are thinking of a type of luciferase assay system incorporated into future vaccines.

eg pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.bioconjchem.6b00112

Mumblechum0 · 06/02/2021 23:55

There’s no point arguing with thick crazy people.

barbites · 07/02/2021 00:35

Haven't rtwt but I'm not sure how, when I draw up my 10 doses of vaccine from one ampule I'll make sure everyone gets a chip 🤔😂

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/02/2021 00:44

Make sure he doesn't use a mobile phone. Even with location services turned off it can still be triangulated through cell connection.
Make sure he only buys things in person using cash. Probably best to get £10 from multiple cash points and walk everywhere too.
Most importantly, don't watch YouTube because they'll collect data too.

@CKL987 I have struggled with this too during the pandemic. A good friend has become conspiratorial and at the start of the pandemic gave me instructions on how to infect myself with the virus to "strengthen my immune system"

She has only continued and worsened this year, with all sorts of crazy anti masking theories and I have drifted away as I can't deal with it and I don't think irrational arguments can be refuted with logic

It's really sad Sad

GlacindaTheTroll · 07/02/2021 07:53

You could try pointing out that unless they are injecting a battery (which never runs down) the chip is pretty useless for just about everything. So what is the chip actually for? (would quite like to hear the answer to this one, because I'm assuming it's obvious fantasy)

And the 'passive reading' (like a dog chip) only works a) when the reader is right by the skin and b) the chip is subcutaneous and has stayed put near the surface.
