Had mine Friday, felt ok till this morning, arms swollen up, temp of 38.9 and everything aches. If you had similar, how long did it last?

@TravellingTilbury yes I’d already read up on the side affects before having it so i knew they were normal and common, i was just more interested in how long it was lasting for everyone

@igglepigglegingin

There is also an interesting study which states "whole body" side effects are present in 50% of those who have previously had Covid compared to 19% of those who haven't contracted the virus. I had Covid last year and the symptoms are identical (obviously) but it's really knocked me for six. Feel a bit silly as they're only side effects but they're really tough!

I've also heard this but my colleague who has had covid was absolutely fine, no symptoms whatsoever yet me, I was floored and I've never had covid 🤷🏼‍♀️

Maybeoneday20 · 07/02/2021 12:42

I had the Oxford vaccine around 9am. I was fine for the most the day, then around 12 hours later I felt crap, felt hot, extremely lethargic and my arm ached. Felt rubbish for one day after.

I was pretty surprised how rough I felt tbh. I'm a frontline worker but never really had symptoms of covid until I had the vaccine. I suspect Ive been one of those people who have had covid and not known about it.

YukoandHiro · 07/02/2021 12:52

If you have a strong immune response (as shown by the side effects) you won't be as bad the next time. Your immune system will be primed and ready to fight

LeSquigh · 07/02/2021 12:57

I have a thread going where there a a lot of examples of answers to your question

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4140247-Oxford-AstraZeneca-vaccine-and-the-side-effects

I did get accused of making it up though 🙄

SmashedPumpkin321 · 07/02/2021 14:34

My mum has felt awful since having the AZ vaccine on Friday, it came on about 8 hours after the jab. She's still in bed nearly 48 hours later. I was wondering if she's actually got covid as it seems a bit extreme for side effects Confused But this thread is reassuring (if that's the right word)... Should people be getting tested in this situation?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/02/2021 14:49

When I get a date for mine (I'm 45 so no time soon!) I'm wondering whether to start taking paracetamol before hand to try and ward off the possible aches and fever. I do it for my my period and I'm thinking it might make sense for this after reading about the side effects.

Ellie56 · 07/02/2021 14:50

DH (70) had the AZ vaccine. He felt nauseous and worn out the next day and spent most of the day in bed. He was as right as rain the next day.

MiJulee · 07/02/2021 15:07

cheninblanc · 07/02/2021 15:11

About 5 days

raffle · 07/02/2021 15:12

I had AZ
12 hours later my temperature was 38.9, chills and aches. All gone 24 hours later. My arm is hot and swollen/red still 4 days after the jab.
I’m dreading the 2nd dose, and have booked the next day off work.

DinosaurDiana · 07/02/2021 15:13

It was over in 48 hours.

PolytheneHam · 07/02/2021 15:15

A couple of days. Pfizer

elprup · 07/02/2021 15:40

My mum had the AZ jab on Friday and had sweating and chills on Friday night. She also felt quite ill all day yesterday, like she was coming down with the flu. She’s feeling better today but still not great. I’m a bit worried, hope she’s ok again by tomorrow.

ofwarren · 07/02/2021 17:08

I had Pfizer.
Started feeling dizzy and had chills about 3 hours after having it. Was exhausted and couldn't keep warm.
I had headaches for 4 days and today is day 5 and I feel better. The odd twinge in my head but almost normal now.

Harumff · 07/02/2021 17:27

I had AZ one 4pm yesterday and woke at 3.30am with chills and headache and aches. Have a temperature today so the nurse at work said I had to get tested before being able to come back to work - 99% certain it’s a normal immune response but can’t say 100% it’s not actually COVID without a test. Wouldn’t bother if I didn’t have to go to work.... will feel mightily unlucky if I’ve caught it just as I got the jab!!

FlatteredRhubardFool · 07/02/2021 17:34

I hope I don't jinx it but I'm starting to feel better. I'm still vomiting but the chills, shaking and cold sweats have stopped. I still ache like I've been been beaten black and blue though. I haven't felt this ill since having a kidney infection and having IV antibiotics a few years back. My dc have spent the day on screens and I feel bad for that but needs must today. I really wanted my mum earlier! I'm 44 ffsGrin

Harumff · 07/02/2021 17:37

From the leaflet vomiting is quite rare so I think you’ve been unlucky Flattered (or it’s coincidence and you have another bug).
Interestingly my 73 year old aunt had it the same time as me yesterday and is 100% fine. I’m 40. It does seem like ‘youngsters’ have a stronger immune response.

QueenPawPaws · 07/02/2021 17:42

I feel a bit better now. Very achy and can't lift my arm to wash my hair!
Interestingly my immune system is shot so I'm surprised, yet my elderly healthy parents have skipped off to do the food shop without even a slightly sore arm

33goingon64 · 07/02/2021 17:46

My Mum in her 70s felt feverish and had night sweats for 36 hours then felt completely fine. MIL felt achey for a day then felt fine.

ThornAmongstRoses · 07/02/2021 17:56

Had Pfeizer.

I had a very slight headache for just under 24 hours (not bad enough to require pain relief) and my vaccine site was quite sore for about two days.

Apart from that I’ve been fine.

Skyla2005 · 07/02/2021 17:57

I had the Oxford jab last Sunday. Nine hrs later I was shivering like mad but temperature was sky high. Felt sick and really ill with pains in arms and legs for 72 hrs. I was really shocked how bad the side effects were and I am very worried to have the second one I don't think I will. I had COVID in March and it felt like I had it again.

reesewithoutaspoon · 07/02/2021 17:58

Pfizer. side effect started about 12 hours after jab lasted 24 to 48 hours.
76 year old mum was totally fine

Pollypocket1235 · 07/02/2021 17:59

Pfizer and only tiredness for 24 hours, mild pain in arm.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 07/02/2021 18:08

@Harumff I'm shielded and not been anywhere though apart from to get the vaccine so I'm not sure where I'd have picked up another bug and my dc are shielded with me as is my mum. There's nothing in my stomach and I'm vomiting bile 🤮 At least I feel a bit brighter now so hopefully on the mend.
