Those of you "clinically extremely vulnerable" vaccinated yet?

Gcnq · 06/02/2021 08:30

Hi DH is clinically extremely vulnerable so we're expecting his vaccine appointment this month according to gov announcements.
It seems everyone has had theirs including my Dad (72) my mate and neighbor, etc,

We haven't heard anything yet! Should we be worried? Letter could have got lost in the post we'd have no idea.

I was discussing it with a friend on the phone and was horrified to hear that her father hadn't been contacted - he is 90+ and CEV for several reasons

I had a relative in similar situation and persuaded them to call the GP surgery who confirmed they had been missed out by mistake. The problem is that age group are particularly susceptible to "don't bother the GP they are busy" messages and can wait too long to check.

I would say to anyone who has heard nothing in an area where vaccinating the next group down is well underway should check.

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/02/2021 15:14

My DP is group 6. No letter yet.

alreadytaken · 06/02/2021 15:17

I'm not cev but a friend is booked in tomorrow after I told them about the NHS booking site.

I'd ring him and ask if I could open the letter/ book him in online.

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 06/02/2021 15:18

I'm CEV and I had my vaccination today. I received my letter on Monday and just booked the appointment online.

If your DH is CEV, just go online and book the appointment

AnneElliott · 06/02/2021 15:21

Yes had mine almost 2 weeks ago.

yearinyearout · 06/02/2021 15:31

I'm not but my friend who's CEV and in her 40's was done last week. It does seem to vary hugely between areas though, ours was one of the first to get started and is flying through them.

redsquirrelfan · 06/02/2021 15:35

I have a friend who is about 40 and CEV and he had his first dose at the end of January. I was quite surprised as they'd barely started the over 80s where I live, but he's over the border in a different county.

Pinkfreesias · 06/02/2021 15:50

I have a friend who is ECV and he's got his appointment for the jab tomorrow.

Hm2020 · 06/02/2021 17:14

My Nan had hers last week not cev but 70+ her friends 80+ not cev had it the week they came out. My ds i cev he is only 6 extremely vulnerable but not heard anything from his team yet anyone know about cev kids?

Doodlepip23 · 06/02/2021 17:17

I’m CEV, booked on the website and had my jab this morning at a hub. Got home and had a text from my GP to book in with them if I hadn’t been vaccinated already.

NewCatMummy · 06/02/2021 17:32

Had mine today. Could have booked at the mass vax centre an hour away earlier but waited for a local appt. Got a text from the GP surgery then a letter like the envelope someone posted the day after. Had the AZ one and feeling fine so far.

Howmanysleepsnow · 06/02/2021 18:02

DH didn’t get a letter and couldn’t use the link. I rang the GP who said he’d been classified group 6 by the computer system. His condition is on the group 6 list, but his immunosuppressive medication is on the group 4 list. I explained that to the gp, they entered the information in a different order (or something!) and he immediately received a text to book.
Thought I’d mention in case anyone else has been similarly misclassified by the computer, although it seems OP’s DH now has a letter.

BlowDryRat · 06/02/2021 19:58

I had mine last weekend after booking online using the link up-thread. My GP surgery text me the same morning to invite me to book but I haven't had a letter yet.

Gcnq · 06/02/2021 22:00

Well the letter did not contain a definitive appointment from our local GP as I'd hoped, but it was a generic letter with info for those of us who have not yet heard from our GP.

On the back of this, DH has secured an appointment at a place 50 mins drive away on Valentine's day.... Well at least we've got one!

It's that, or wait for an unknown amount of time for an appointment closer to home.

I called my surgery as hadn’t heard anything and it turns out I’d been missed off accidentally. I now have my first jab end of next week. It’s worth checking with the GP.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 06/02/2021 22:10

I haven’t been vaccinated yet, but I have had multiple invitations to do so by text, letter and phone call from both my local hospital and my GP surgery.
Unfortunately I currently have an acute illness (not covid) so I am not well enough to be vaccinated at the moment and have to wait until I am.

ballstoit · 06/02/2021 22:10

DSD is having hers Monday,
DH rang GP surgery as they posted to say they had completed vaccination of CEV patients - DSD is CEV. He was told that because she is under consultant care she had not appeared on their list. This was on Friday though so pretty impressed that she was fitted in for Monday.

TheABC · 06/02/2021 22:20

My CEV-vulnerable friend and FIL both had their done today in different parts of the country. I think varies a bit by area - they are getting through the over-70's first and if there's a lot in your area, it will take longer.

I am glad to hear your DH has an appointment. Fingers crossed, it will be a fast turn-around for the second jab.

Gcnq · 07/02/2021 10:17

Hmm
I'll speak to DH about calling the surgery on the off chance he was missed off or there was some sort of error, simply to save us a long journey.

Thing is, we do live in an area with a very aged population and have tried to so far respect the "don't call us we'll call you" rule because we know they'll be particularly busy with the 70+ age group.

We'll give it a go on Monday.

EffIt · 07/02/2021 11:11

My GP surgery has a long recorded message about the vaccine when you call. They have started over 70s and anyone who was sheilding but then it says some immunocompromised people will not be able to be vaccinated. They don't say why but later in the message say it's not a live vaccine so is safe for immunocompromised people.

gisbons · 07/02/2021 11:22

He may be able to secure a closer venue on the website, and sooner than Wednesday. What did it say when you went on it?

Wherediditgo · 07/02/2021 11:44

My sister is CEV and she had hers last week

Gcnq · 07/02/2021 14:05

What did it say when you went on it?

It asks you to enter you postcode, then gave a list of clinics. He chose the closest distance option then chose the date. He could have chosen Saturday as earliest option but we're busy so he chose Sunday. .

It happens to be the same place our neighbour went to who we know had the Pfizer a few weeks ago not the AstraZenica, so we're hoping DH will also get the Pfizer as it seems to have fewer side effects!

Spoke to DH about ringing the surgery but he doesn't want to complicate matters now it's already booked.

Thanks again all for your input experiences and suggestions!

I'm super happy I'm getting a vaccine, but sort of wish it was the Pfizer one instead of the AZ one which I know it's going to be. Looking at the results from the recent tests - the AZ one is only showing 10% effective against the South African variant which is concerning.

Don’t worry - the AZ one is still effective against the dominant strain in the UK and they don’t know for certain that it isn’t effective against the SA one.

In any case, the numbers of the SA variant are really, really low in this country and if it does become a dominant strain (which it may well not) they’ll tweak the vaccine to suit. You’ll be fine Smile
