I mean for over 80s and nursing home residents who started being vaccinated a month or more ago. Are we seeing a positive impact?

I haven't heard anything about vaccination causing the numbers to go down.

They think the peak was January 19th,

Lockdown is reducing infections as usual, despite reduced compliance.

1014 reported deaths today. 6893 in the last 7 days (by 28 day cut off)

1% of the population are now vaccinated.

PrincessNutNuts · 05/02/2021 21:05

Didn't vaccination begin in December 5th? So it's been two months.

Crumpetycrump · 05/02/2021 21:05

20% of the adult population are vaccinated but not enough time yet to see the effect / soon hopefully though.

Way more than 1% have been vaccinated. Over 9 million have been out of a population of 67 million. That’s around 13%

Not sure where you're getting your stats from...

Total 1st vaccinations 10,971,047.
20.7% of all UK adults have now received a vaccination.

Stats have dropped not sure if totally down to vaccines though, but looking hopeful🤞

ineedaholidaynow · 05/02/2021 21:18

Not many will have had their second dose

starfish4 · 05/02/2021 21:30

Something was said the other day that we'd have a clearer indication around mid Feb - that along with other factors will determine if schools can go back around 8 March, and in turn other restrictions can be eased.

StrangerHereMyself · 05/02/2021 21:34

Numbers vaccinated were very low through to 1st Jan.
if you look really carefully you might just be able to find something in the data for the over eighties now but it’s very lumpy because of the care homes so difficult to spot trends.

PrincessNutNuts · 05/02/2021 21:38

It's because for some reason some people use the word "vaccinated" to mean "Has had the first dose and will now wait 3 months for the second one"

Vaccinated means vaccinated. We hit 1% today.

The rest of the 10 million have had their first dose. They are not vaccinated yet.

Onestep2021 · 05/02/2021 21:41

I can’t quite remember so I’m not arguing, but doesn’t the first dose provide 60-70% of the final Immunity offered by the double-dose effect. Wouldn’t that be enough to expect to see an impact before the full vaccination cycle is complete?

inquietant · 05/02/2021 21:43

20.7% of all UK adults have now received a PARTIAL vaccination.

One would hope, but I'm pretty sure if we came out of lockdown now the numbers would climb.

There are second doses for about 10 million people still to do, and then the first doses for 22 million, and then their second doses.

Then that's the vulnerable done, and it's on to the rest of the country.

At what point we'll see the benefit remains to be seen.

Moonstone1234 · 05/02/2021 21:55

Some people really do want the lockdown to go on and on and on.

Just why???

Because I don't want another fucking lockdown in three months time!
Bluntness100 · 05/02/2021 21:58

There was an article the other day, one of the scientists said they think there is a 25 percent reduction in deaths in the over eighties but it’s too early to attribute it to the vaccine.

jimmyhill · 05/02/2021 22:20

One dose is vaccinated

Remember when we had a Nov lockdown but we had to open up on December 2nd because Rishi Sunak and the ERG were threatening to have a tantrum, and we were in Tier 4 18 days later, Christmas got cancelled, the aisle of Wight went from Tier 1 to Tier 4 in a fortnight, and then we went back into lockdown again at New Year?

That's why.

Just do it properly the first time.

Wafflewife · 06/02/2021 01:41

Our daily numbers are only back to what they were in mid December. And that's with schools closed for the majority. What do you think will happen if we open up now?

People count 1 dose as vaccinated because it offers the majority of the protection at least in the short term. The 2nd dose boosts it and hopefully ensures longer protection.

On 1 dose AZ gives 76% protection and 67% reduction in transmission www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2021/feb/02/single-dose-of-astrazeneca-vaccine-could-cut-transmission-by-67

Pfizer gives 91% protection

starfish88 · 06/02/2021 02:51

Vaccinating HCPs and people in hospital has already contributed to a fall in cases in hospitals.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/01/27/cases-covid-caught-hospital-halve-hopes-rise-vaccines-cutting/amp/

The elderly should see similar falls soon, they have in Israel

inquietant · 06/02/2021 05:35

People count 1 dose as vaccinated

'People' are wrong.

Everything we have seen about the efficacy of the first jab is brilliant.

But we need to recognise the scale of the task and be realistic about the need for jab two.
