No. I think there will be similar rules as originally planned last year. Three households, try to minimise contacts. Keep it small no big office/New Year parties. If that goes well, I think the year after will be more normal. But lots of relatives will be missing by then.

catatemymind · 06/02/2021 11:25

sorry OP for all the posters who are being mean. I wonder these things on a frequent basis and I know no one knows, no crystal ball etc etc but it's searching for some sort of anchor in a sea of anxiety and uncertainty. I hope Christmas is normal this year and we are heading in a positive direction now so fingers crossed. Smile

YewandOak · 06/02/2021 11:33

I'd like to be able to get back to work before I even think about christmas!

OhBabooahka · 06/02/2021 11:35

It's the first week of bloody February, how can anyone possibly forecast ten plus months ahead with all that's going on?

Bonkers, bizarre, add whatever word you like question Confused

hennybeans · 06/02/2021 11:43

I understand all the sarky responses because who really has a clue.

However, I clicked on this thread because I have booked tickets to visit family abroad over Christmas and I was interested in people's opinions of it will be ok to go ( with the understanding it is just conjecture).

My DC won't have seen their DGPs in 2.5 years by that point. My DC have already changed so much and we still have nearly a year to wait.

I think Christmas will be almost normal. Seeing family will be allowed without masks or social distancing. I think possibly we might all be taking regular covid tests. But surely most adults will have been vaccinated, some might have even had boosters. We ought to be swimming in vaccine by then.

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants

Fairy lights are for life not just for Christmas!

DavidsSchitt · 06/02/2021 11:53

Nobody knows but I plan to carry on as if it's going to be normal.

The Christmas shopping has begun Grin

MotherExtraordinaire · 06/02/2021 13:35

Unlikely to be like precovid given authorities have said changes will be in place for years to come...

DuchessofHastings1 · 06/02/2021 14:31

I know everyone's fed up and everyone wants hope but I am sick of these threads.
Same ones over and over but yet I click on them thinking theres something new, a new bit of hope but it's just the same, guess work.

CrunchyCarrot · 06/02/2021 15:21

I really, really don't want to think about Christmas again! I've just taken down the window cling snow flakes. Grin

Well, to be fair, the title was a question! Bit of a clue really
DuchessofHastings1 · 06/02/2021 20:42

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants yeah I seen Hmm that's why I said I'm fed up but still click on them hoping to find some new info but dont. This time just sarcastic comments who misread my comments.

I’m actually fine thanks cat I was just thinking out loud. The question popped into my head so I just wondered what others thought. I’m managing ok with this slower pace of life, there are some advantages though it’s terrible that people are dying of course.

I don’t care if it’s not fully normal. I just want to see my family

Stirmecrazy · 07/02/2021 00:44

I can’t understand why people think it won’t be back to some sense of normal . You don’t need a crystal ball to see the vaccination scheme rolling out . Surely once this is done risk will minimise to that of flu and normality will return. I get other variants might appear but the vaccine can be tweaked for this the same as they do for flu (I have medics in the family who bore me with these sorts of facts). Anyway I have put my money where my mouth is and just booked a Xmas holiday overseas at a bargain price so time will tell if I have been savvy or irresponsible

We met up in the summer, when it was safe and legal etc
TheKeatingFive · 07/02/2021 08:53

We met up in the summer, when it was safe and legal etc

I’m not sure of the relevance of this point. I expect most people want to see their families during all seasons.

Nellodee · 07/02/2021 09:09

I didn’t see anyone at Christmas. I think we might do a big back garden Christmas dinner with party hats and crackers this summer. Maybe a little gift each for all present.

MadameBlobby · 07/02/2021 16:09

So did we @herecomesthsun (outside) but Christmas wasn’t the same :( fingers crossed for this year.

herecomesthsun · 07/02/2021 20:19

Oh sorry, I am thinking that whereas Christmas has been the time of year we have made a point of going and seeing family, for us we might change it to the summer, at least this year and maybe next, seeing how things go.

We are provisionally planning a UK break for May half term that we can cancel if needed, hopefully visiting family.

Of course, that might not suit everyone, but itis one way to get to see loved ones, and it worked fine last year.

It would of course be great if things are more sorted next Christmas.

I do really like Christmas but we can also make the most of just being hoe together.

I was thinking this too.

You knock yourself out. Others want to see their family much more regularly than once a year.

I used to see my parents weekly for example. After they they have been vaccinated, we’ll be right back to that.

Thedramasummer · 08/02/2021 06:44

I’m hopefully that things in the Uk will be similar to how things are generally in Aus.

We are still reminded to social distance, hand sanitizer available, the plastic screens up at tills.

There are caps on numbers of people allowed in homes and when in pubs/ restaurants/ shops. They do change depending on how things are going in each state.

We are also reminded to get tested if we get any symptoms and in South Aus it’s mandatory to scan QR code or sign in when going to any shops or venues.

None of this impacts my daily life.

I’m hopeful that once things start to look better in the Uk that they don’t become complacent and do away with all restrictions.
