The EU's Von Der Leyen now trying to blame the UK failing on "vaccine safety" to excuse their failings

Von Der Leyen needs to take some ownership and responsibility for this - sick of her accusing the UK when the issues for Europe are shit EU procument and slow EMA vaccine approval

I read in an article about her recently that she plagiarised part of her thesis but did not realise it and was nor penalised.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 02/02/2021 14:14

@Waspnest

Well it's not our problem. If EU citizens are willing to wait longer than that is up to them. If Ursula VdL gets her kicks by trying to wind up the UK let's leave her to it. She is the EU's problem.

Hopefully the UK government won't respond.

Agreed

@Baileysforchristmas

I can’t wait to have the AZ vaccine. Germany are now looking at getting vaccines from Russia and China. Good luck to them. I know which vaccine I would trust, no matter what the EU say.
Russia and China have some fantastic scientists in many areas, this idea they are somehow backward and make inferior medicines is incorrect. Personally, if i had a choice, i'd have a chinese vaccine, they have been studying corona viruses for decades, whether safely or not is another debate.

MHRA have approved OxZ for emergency use, batch by batch, each approval taking about 2 weeks.
the EMA have approved OxZ for market release ie the drug itself, the UK can now rubber stamp the EMAs work.

Rather than shoot the messenger, i'd want to know why many countries haven't approved it for use in the over 65s and why they have also not gone for a 12 week dosing plan.

tara66 · 02/02/2021 14:27

UAE is using a Chinese vaccine.

meditrina · 02/02/2021 14:27

Fortunately, she is not our problem any more.

Because if her words have been reported accurately, she is extraordinarily muddled. And seemingly hellbent on badmouthing UK at every turn, when there really wasn't any need to comment at all.

Did she have an unfounded pop at Israel and UAE as well?

Motorina · 02/02/2021 14:33

Does anyone have a link to the unpleasant woman's comments in context? Rather than just the Guardian summary?

PicsInRed · 02/02/2021 14:36

Let's not interrupt her whilst she's giving herself enough rope.

Let the woman blether on talk.

Agree

This hasn't been true for weeks. It's four days.

meditrina · 02/02/2021 14:41

Batch testing is normal - we do it for every single vaccine in use, regardless of what disease it is against. It's nothing to do with type of clearance to use has been granted.

Looks like people are getting ideas muddled, and then trying to fit it to the latest inexplicable EU statement

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 02/02/2021 14:43

I think best to ignore her and let her keep digging her own hole.
She is irrelevant here really as she has no say on our vaccines its up to leaders of europe to deal with if they have any issues.
I don't think the negativity will put many off here , Tbh .

PowerslidePanda · 02/02/2021 14:45

The former German defence minister, who took command of the EU’s executive branch in 2019, said she had a responsibility to take time to ensure the success of the bloc’s mass vaccination programme.

But her stalling hasn't ensured success Confused

soundofsilence1 · 02/02/2021 14:47

The russian vaccine has 92% efficacy so higher than the Oxford one which is somewhere between 60% and 90% depending on dosing.

Haffiana · 02/02/2021 14:50

The USA have not approved the AstraZenica vaccine at all.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/02/2021 14:54

It's just bonkers, has any other governing body undermined their own vaccine approval board?

Baileysforchristmas · 02/02/2021 14:59

@Bluethrough shoot the messenger that has no data on her statement. The EMA has signed this off, do you not trust your own medical approval company? I couldn’t care less which vaccine the EU use but why make a such a fuss about not receiving it when you don’t want it anyway 🤷‍♀️

IcedPurple · 02/02/2021 15:01

Yeah, it's nuts. Like with Macron, who presides over a country with the highest rate of vaccine hesitancy in Europe, slagging off the AZ vaccine from a position of zero expertise.

I guess he'd prefer the French use the home-grown Sanofi vaccine, maybe some time in the next century.

Thats true i agree but the point is even Sweden, one half of AstrZ wont authorise the vaccine for the over 65s.

Doesn't anyone question this? nor the 12 week delay? quite amazing.

Latest i found on mhra batch approval was 2 weeks ago, take 10 to 14 days.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/02/2021 15:12

Four days

starfish88 · 02/02/2021 16:48

It's a shame because it's playing right into the hands of the anti-vaxxers. Especially people who won't read past a headline and decide its unsafe now or question it's safety.

Bluethrough · 02/02/2021 18:11

@FourTeaFallOut thats amazing isn't? 4 days, down from 3 weeks.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/02/2021 19:08

Yes, I'm hoping whoever sorted that sets their sights on the post office next. Grin

Baileysforchristmas · 02/02/2021 19:16

@donewithitalltodayandxmas so true, i’m so relieved she’s not in charge of our vaccine roll out, at 500k a day vaccinated, we should’ve vaccinated all adult population in a 100 days 😊 good news coming out on AZ as well.
