Getting vaccinated tomorrow! Grateful but confused?

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 18:51

So I’m officially booked in to get my vaccine tomorrow! I received a message out of the blue and got it booked in. I’m just confused about why I’m getting it now? Sounds silly but I’m young (under 30) and not shielding so not exactly a priority. I definitely thought my mum would get it before me. Has anyone else been in this position?

There are a few scams going round to do with coronavirus. You need to be wary if you don't have any health issues, are young, and not working in the NHS or a care worker, I would have thought.

Where has the invitation come from?

DogsSausages · 01/02/2021 18:55

Who messaged you.

ineedaholidaynow · 01/02/2021 18:56

Are you on the normal flu jab list, some people in my area are getting their vaccine now who are on that list.

But yes, also be careful it is not a scam.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/02/2021 18:59

OP, please tell us you haven't clicked on a link in a text message and inputted your bank details?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/02/2021 19:02

I would think scam too unless you gave a serious illness & possibly missed off the shielding list?

Iamdobby63 · 01/02/2021 19:02

I had an email inviting me to book my vaccination, it was convincing but I knew I wasn’t due it and am very wary of scams so I reported it.

DogsSausages · 01/02/2021 19:04

Does it tell you where to go for the vaccine, is there a legit address and phone number.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:05

I received a text from the nhs. Checked it out and it’s definitely legit and I’ve received reminders for it. I’m incredibly grateful as I didn’t think I’d be offered it anytime soon. I just find it odd as I’m not a priority. I have no health issues and I’m not shielding/elderly

OP posts:
DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:05

Yes there’s a legit address. I know where to go as it’s local to me

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:06

No bank details were given

RaininSummer · 01/02/2021 19:08

That seems very strange. Is it linked to your work maybe.

Iamdobby63 · 01/02/2021 19:09

Very odd indeed.

Just a side note, my daughter got scammed recently, she checked that the number from the bank was safe and then proceeded to do what she was told. The bank have advised that numbers can be ghosted (or something).

justwanttoknow21 · 01/02/2021 19:10

Haha maybe OP is tying to wind everyone. If not, crack on ! One more vaccinated.

enjoyingscience · 01/02/2021 19:11

Some surgeries in London have been in the news today for accidentally offering vaccines to young people with no health conditions. Could this be the case for you?

SummerHouse · 01/02/2021 19:12

Just go and roll up your sleeve. Maybe it's about making sure none get binned. Maybe it's a mistake. But I think better to get it than question it and have it go to waste.

Ch3rish · 01/02/2021 19:12

Who was the message specifically from? The NHS isn't an entity that would be sending out messages.

pjani · 01/02/2021 19:13

There was a guardian article about this, headline

Young people mistakenly offered Covid jabs at two London clinics
Admin and computer errors blamed as healthy patients in 20s and 30s receive invitation

It's an admin error.

Meredithgrey1 · 01/02/2021 19:14

It could just be a genuine mistake, not a scam. Someone DH works with got called for hers pre-Christmas. She called her GP surgery and said she thought it was a mistake (she’s mid-40s, no health conditions, not in a job that would need it), they said just to have it anyway. And it wasn’t a scam, she had it done.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:14

Why would I be winding people up? That’s why I didn’t name change so people would know I’m genuine. I’m asking if anyone has been in the same position as I’m genuinely confused about why I would be offered it. I wasn’t asked for any personal or financial details. I received a message from nhs no reply. But online people are talking about receiving letters which is why I came on here to see if anyone had booked in the same way I had

shivermetimbers77 · 01/02/2021 19:15

It may well be so none get wasted. A colleague of mine runs a vaccination site and with the Pfizer vaccine in particular it’s a real race against time to make sure it isn’t wasted. I would double check the place is actually being used as a vaccination site though OP, or check with your GP, just in case it is a scam

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:15

I’ve revived messages from the nhs before. Most of my appointment messages in the past have been from them

OP posts:
DayBath · 01/02/2021 19:16

In your place I would be a bit concerned that something inaccurate was on my medical notes in error. I'm not saying don't get the jab but perhaps ring the GP to ask why you are classed as Extremely Clinically Vulnerable. Unless it's related to your workplace then being ECV is the only reason someone your age would currently be offered it. I have worked in healthcare and although it's rare mix ups on medical notes does sometimes happen.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:16

Double checked and the place is definitely a vaccination centre in my area. I’ll definitely be going as I don’t want it to go to waste if it is genuine

OP posts:
DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:17

Definitely not linked to my job as I have a separate work number

@Ch3rish

Who was the message specifically from? The NHS isn't an entity that would be sending out messages.
You're right the NHS as an entity doesn't send messages, but text messages from NHS Trusts, GP practices and other NHS organisations will often come from "NHS No Reply". I have messages from there from my GP surgery, as well as messages telling me my latest covid test result (I work for an NHS Trust) and texts giving me a code to allow me to get into our remote access solution.
