Getting vaccinated tomorrow! Grateful but confused?

So I’m officially booked in to get my vaccine tomorrow! I received a message out of the blue and got it booked in. I’m just confused about why I’m getting it now? Sounds silly but I’m young (under 30) and not shielding so not exactly a priority. I definitely thought my mum would get it before me. Has anyone else been in this position?

@DiscombobulatedAf

Definitely not linked to my job as I have a separate work number
It doesn't matter that your work number is different, if you are employed in certain professions then your info will be flagged by your employer and the NHS will contact you on your personal number as that's what they have for you. What is your job?
DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:20

I work in finance. It’s from nhs no reply and I’ve received messages from them before so i think it’s genuine

Are you at one of the London clinics mentioned by a poster?
Do you have any caring responsibilities in your job?

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:23

I’m not with any clinics as far as I know? No caring responsibilities for work

I had my vaccine yesterday. I'm young but CEV so was expecting a letter. I was also booked in via NHS-No Reply text.

It was absolutely legit as I had an appt when I went to the hospital and they had all my details.

So I don't think it's a scam or anything but it doesn't help you figure out why!
But one more person vaccinated can't be a bad thing!

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:26

@JimandPam thanks so much! That’s put my mind at ease. Yes one more vaccination is a definitely a good thing

NHS usually uses text messageing it only resorts to letters for people without a mobile number listed or who have refused SMS contact. Even if it's an error, go get vaccinated, it will be too late to book anyone else if you cancel or just don't turn up.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:28

Just want to make it clear I will definitely be attending tomorrow. I feel confident it’s not a scam now

Buntysbosom · 01/02/2021 19:33

It may not be a scam but under 30 with no underlying health issues you shouldn’t be invited for a vaccination so it’s an error.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:35

It may well be an error but I’d be a fool to turn it down

girlofnow · 01/02/2021 19:38

You know they're still vaccinating the extremely clinically vulnerable and over 70s though. So you know it's not your turn. I'd be double checking before I turned up in case it's a wasted journey.

RaininSummer · 01/02/2021 19:39

Well good luck then. Come back and let us know if you find out what happened.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:39

It’s been confirmed and i’ve received reminders. It’s 15 minutes away on the bus so not a massive deal if it turns out to be a wasted journey

ChronicallyCurious · 01/02/2021 19:41

Maybe they’ve made an error and have you down as a carer? Are any of your close relatives CEV?

My Mum was offered one as we’re registered at the same doctors and they thought she was my carer (I’m CEV) as I moved out not long ago and forgot to change my address from hers.

Hollywhiskey · 01/02/2021 19:41

Every one vaccinated is one person closer to the other side of this mess. I hope they jab you tomorrow if it's an admin error and you don't get turned away. Good luck OP.

girlofnow · 01/02/2021 19:45

Are you in London? The message is that if you've been offered it to contact your GP to say it's a mistake and they can offer it to an over 70 year old instead. It's in the guardian article. Some of the erroneous appointments are being cancelled. Better to have it then for it to go to waste but personally I would be asking them if they could offer it to someone vulnerable instead (who should obviously be in the queue before you) before I had it.

MrsBartlet · 01/02/2021 19:46

There is an article on The Guardian website about clinics in London accidentally offering vaccines to young people.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:46

It looks like it may be an error but I’m going to see what’s what tomorrow

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:47

It appears I’m not the only one this has happened to so I’m glad it doesn’t seem to be a scam

Even if it is an error, the OP should still go. If she doesn't then there's a very high chance the vaccine will be thrown in the bin.

Another person vaccinated if much better than a vaccine wasted.

Bilgepumper · 01/02/2021 19:49

It's a mistake @DiscombobulatedAf.

Greyingmumto3 · 01/02/2021 19:50

This is so strange . I received a text message this evening to invite me for a vaccine . I’ve assumed it is a scam as I am not in any priority groups .
The text is from nhsnoreply ,although I have other messages from that which haven’t shown up in the same conversation.
Ive been googling trying to find out how I find out if it’s genuine but can’t find any real info
It’s inviting me to a test site which I know is genuine, but I really don’t want to click on the link

This.

Greyingmumto3

Do you have another device which has good anti virus on it? If so, type the link in there. The antivirus should pick up if it's a dodgy site. If it doesn't, check the website address it relays to, does it sound genuine? And if it asks for bank details it is definitely a scam.

DiscombobulatedAf · 01/02/2021 19:52

@Greyingmumto3 the link sent me to a secure web page that let me book a slot. Based on what I’ve been told here it seems genuine as I wasn’t asked for any personal details but it’s completely up to you.
