We will all have a great British summer

Says Matt Hancock.
Personally, I am optimistic. I am struggling without my DP hugely. Have not seen him since Christmas as we live apart and with our adult kids. Normally we would be going to gigs, restaurants and holidays so I'm so pleased an end is in sight when I can stay at his and we can carry on as we did pre coronavirus times.

It’s another drip drip of hopium, the magical potion to keep people engaged with the end goal. The only problem is the end is not quite in sight, but it might be, eventually, hopefully, it should be, possibly, potentially.

I can’t wait for the great British Summer. I hope it’s as good as Christmas.

MercyBooth · 01/02/2021 17:05

I hate summer. Im a Christmas girl.
So not easily bribed with this "great British summer" rhetoric.

@wanderings

Reminder: life has a 100% mortality rate.

At the moment we are being kept alive for an extremely miserable existence. The fight back will start. It has to. People will not put up with this shit show and government brainwashing for much longer.

23,000 people aged 40-70 have died before their time from Covid in less than a year- that's people's husbands, brothers, sisters.

@LightTree

It's disappointing to see Matt Hancock indicate that the government are planning to open up too soon. Yet again.

Independent SAGE have been very clear that full lockdown must stay in place until COVID has been eliminated- I.e. there are no cases. In order to keep people safe and protect our NHS.

We're going to end up with tens of thousands more avoidable deaths because the far-right tories are more interested in 'getting back to normal' which really means allowing their rich mates to make money at the expense of lives.

We all need to stay at home until COVID has been eradicated. If that takes another 18 months, so be it.

What do you think is going to happen to our families, our education and our employment in this scenario?
Quit4me · 01/02/2021 18:50

@Lovely1a2b3c no they haven’t?? 23,000 people have died WITH a positive covid test within 28 days. For many, this would not have been before their ‘time’

lunapeace · 01/02/2021 18:52

Respiratory illnesses nosedive in the summer months anyway.

Well that's going to be a bit of a problem Grin

barretbonden · 01/02/2021 18:54

It being British is totally and utterly irrelevant and this fucking government should stop pitiably trying to associate Britain with anything good

Exhausteddog · 01/02/2021 19:06

How is this in any way feasible? Enough businesses have gone to the wall with 3-6 months lockdown at a time (or a year, in some industries) there will literally be nothing left if everything closes for another 18 months.
How do you suppose the NHS will be funded and public sector workers like teachers will be paid if barely anyone is out earning any money and paying tax?
What is your job, out of interest?

DoraTan · 01/02/2021 19:17

I think this summer will be much like last summer.
Difference being that at the time it felt like a sacrifice, but going back to the freedoms (and weather!) this year will feel amazing!

I booked a UK summer holiday yesterday and I'm going! 😎
