He's convinced that the government are trying to reduce human population and that the COVID jab with damage our health or reduce our lifespan. I think he's completely mad 🤣 it's come out of nowhere, he's never had this attitude towards anything, he's not a conspiracy theory kinda guy. He's fine with other jabs, just is weird about this one. Not really sure why I'm posting this, i just guess I want someone to confirm I'm not the only one that thinks he's stupid😂

Tellto · 31/01/2021 17:55

I don't think anyone is overreacting saying they would bin their partners. I certainly would as it would highlight what an absolute idiot they were

Im not going to leave my partner of 6 years and father to our 7month old because of this. it's popped out of nowhere, a difference in opinion (and something I'm sure is just an opinion phase) isn't a deal breaker for me.

Totally up to him but I'd find it very hard to continue a serious relationship with someone so stupid as to think like that.

Loving the lower class comment Grin

cherry2727 · 31/01/2021 18:09

I don’t find this amusing and it would be deal breaker for me.

ConfusedThis seem to be the response to every domestic issue on MN!!

He has a choice to have the vaccine and he has decided not to. I don't see the big issue here at all. I really can't believe you're referring to him as stupid for deciding not to have the vaccine ! Isn't just a matter of differing choice/ views ? I find this site quite hypocritical - I've read numerous posts where posters are blasted for not making informed decisions or not taking enough time to read through the small print and now everyone who doesn't want to take the vaccine due to lack of Information / research/data is being called stupid !

No one's saying he's stupid because he doesn't want to have the vaccine, he's stupid because of the reasons he's given

Thinking the govt is trying to reduce the population as a reason is even stupider as the vaccine will reduce deaths not increase them. The reason doesn't even make any sense.

StrangerHereMyself · 31/01/2021 18:33

If he said “it’s a new vaccine, and there might be rare but serious side effects that they haven’t yet discovers, the risk from Covid is very low for me personally and it’s not proven that me having the vaccine would help protect you so I’m not doing it” then I’d shrug and agree to disagree.

Saying “I’m not having it because it’s part of a conspiracy by the world elite to cull the population” would indicate that we had a fundamental disagreement on worldview, to put it mildly. I’m baffled by the people who’d just shrug that off tbh.

Unanananana · 31/01/2021 18:44

He sounds thick. Its his choice not to have it when offered but to spout conspiracy theory as the reason? Not attractive. I would have no time for that shit.

Its not a difference of opinion. Its idiocy spread by nutters on YouTube.

XiCi · 31/01/2021 18:50

it's popped out of nowhere, a difference in opinion
No sorry. You don't go from being an intelligent rational being to thinking the government are trying to kill the population with a vaccine. Hes either not very bright or in the middle of a psychotic episode. As you seem completely unconcerned I'm guessing its the former

Divebar2021 · 31/01/2021 20:05

The only person I know who has said they won’t be having the vaccine believed at the start of the pandemic that covid was caused by 5G so she’s already shown herself capable of irrational decision making as far as I’m concerned. On top of that when you actually look at what she considers proof I’m amazed she holds down numbers / fact based job in a pretty prestigious city firm. She will say that the vaccine has caused deaths and then link to a newspaper article in which no post-mortem has ever been done but someone believes the death was related to the vaccine. Her language is full of certainty. If you point out they don’t know what caused the death she’s deaf to that. If you say it’s one death against millions of people vaccinated with no side effects she’s not interested. The unproven death holds more weight for her. If you point out that hundreds of thousands of people HAVE died from COVID that unproven death is still more powerful. The fact she’s also persuaded her parents ( who are much more vulnerable than her) to not have the vaccine is also really troubling. The only thing that does really bother her is the prospect of not being able to go on holiday abroad but I’m not certain she even believes that will happen in reality. In this case the OPs DP also has extremely dubious reasons for holding his viewpoint and I would struggle to respect his opinion for that reason

SuperCaliFragalistic · 31/01/2021 20:12

I really couldn't get worked up about this. I'll be happily having the vaccine when my time comes but if others don't want to that's fine. And as for the conspiracy theories, well it's a bit nuts but life as we know it has changed so much I'm not surprised people are finding some "out there" ways of coping with it. For the majority it's a phase that will pass. For those that would make a snap decision to terminate an otherwise happy, stable marriage over their DH going down a bit of a rabbit hole, probably temporarily, there either a lot of other problems in your marriage or you're the ones who are "thick", "hard of thinking" etc etc. OP, if this has come from nowhere im sure he'll come to his senses soon enough.

WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 20:32

Somebody disagrees with me so they must be mentally ill. That’s so Mumsnet.

MRex · 31/01/2021 20:40

@WalrusWife - thinking the government are out to cause harm by vaccines is not "someone disagrees with me".

inquietant · 31/01/2021 21:02

@PuzzledObserver

if they are saying the vaccine doesn't prevent transmission

They are not saying the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission. They are saying we don’t yet have evidence that it prevents transmission, and until we do, we must act as though it doesn’t. That means vaccinated people must continue to follow SD and mask rules etc.

However, they do expect to reduce transmission, although they don’t yet know how much. It could be 20%, it could be 85%. It is unlikely to be either 0% (makes no difference at all) or 100% (completely blocks transmission)

I was discussing this earlier - why/how would it stop transmission and why/how might this not happen?

It would be quite bad if it doesn't reduce transmission by a significant amount, in terms of new variants presumably.

How long will it be until we know?

WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 21:04

MRex - so what, people have different opinions. It’s not like the OP can take her partner to the GP and get him sectioned. I mean, the GP may advise a course of CBT or splurging with a 10 year long waiting list.

MRex · 31/01/2021 21:10

@WalrusWife - that's paranoia, not an "opinion". Someone suffering from delusion is always better off consulting a medical professional.

Those are very good questions, I’d like to know too.

JovialNickname · 31/01/2021 22:14

The reasoning would make me not respect him, or feel able to have any valid or critical discussion with him about anything. He's very easily swayed to say the least which would be an insurmountable problem for me.

JovialNickname · 31/01/2021 22:35

I can't believe all the people that are saying that's fine, it's his decision. Of course he can decide not to have the vaccine - but saying the reason he won't is because the government are trying to reduce the human lifespan??* And this would be fine with you, you'd go to sleep next to this person? What about when he decides you're not a human being but a lizard? I can't believe so many people are cool with this thought process.

  • Plus if the government were trying to cut down on population numbers surely they'd just let us HAVE COVID, i.e. the pandemic that cuts down population size? This level of sheer stupidity makes my head hurt
TwistedFairytales · 31/01/2021 23:12

I am not going to have it and neither is my husband. Everyone I know who has had it has felt utterly awful afterwards and a lot have gone on to get the virus anyway.
We both have covid at the moment so its probably not worth it now anyway. My work expect me to have it but I'm just keeping quiet and hoping they won't say anything.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/01/2021 23:17

The vaccines don't give you covid.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/01/2021 23:19

It reduces the effect of covid.

ittakes2 · 31/01/2021 23:22

My cleaner thinks its a conspiracy and the government are injecting people with tracking devices. My husband said he can't see why the government would be interested in tracking her as the only place she goes besides the school run is too and from our house! Seriously, she's an amazing cleaner but her rants on the conspiracy views are so extreme its tricky as she sounds so crazy that I have to wonder how I can trust someone so whacky. Ironically, she is very very religious and so trustworthy - just has crazy ideas when it somes to the government.

DeRigueurMortis · 31/01/2021 23:30

If DH came out with this shit I wouldn't be laughing, I'd be leaving.

MercyBooth · 31/01/2021 23:34

The conspiracy stuff is ridiculous. But Newsnight had a good segment and discussion last Thursday night over the reasons for refusal. In some cases its due to decades of inequality and lack of trust in the Government

You reap what you sow.
Here is the segment and discussion.
