Concerned I am having an adverse reaction to my vaccine.

I've only namechanged as I've posted about it on fb and don't want these linked. Ask mn how long I've been here if you think I'm making it up.

I have a metric fuck tonne of comorbidities, I'm CEV, and had my vaccine this week (AZ, clues in the name 😂)

Since, I have had neurological symptoms in my arm. Pins and needles, neuralgia, numbness in my fingers and hand. No other side effects. I have yellow-carded and spoken to my GP (advised to keep an eye on it and call the emergency number if anything increases and makes me concerned), but I just want a support thread while I wait for this to go away :( my concern is that I don't want to scare people into not having it, so I've been wary of mentioning it. But then on the other hand, I'm paranoid that I'm just being a hypochondriac and there is nothing abnormal anyway. Anyone who has had long term health problems and had them minimised like I have will hopefully understand this.

So, I know that if I'm having a dodgy response (AZ say neurological symptoms have existed in trials, but are believed to be unlinked to the vaccine itself), it's probably as I'm the only person in the UK with my exact combination of health problems and medications, and at my age/sex etc. That doesn't mean it's a problem for anyone else, but doesn't exactly placate me either. Iyswim.

Could I have a handhold? 😢

@RosesAndLemonade

You can't tell someone to RTFT when people are listening to post after post after post about every tiny symptom you have and then trying to reply to you

The OP has said she/he is autistic, so may have a different way of perceiving/explaining the symptoms.

The responses seem a bit abrupt, but please bear this in mind and try to be kind

I've read everything and I'm aware

stayathomegardener · 06/02/2021 09:05

If it helps I had exactly the same reaction to the flu jab 18 years ago.

On a positive this might take away the Covid specific fears however it did have a lasting impact on my health.

I can only suggest high dose steroids.

At least you are being taken seriously as no one cared less (medically) when it happened to me.

JS87 · 06/02/2021 09:13

Yes I had a look and transverse myelitis has occurred rarely after a number of different vaccines.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/02/2021 09:22

Sorry if you've mentioned it (post covid brain can't work it out) how long ago did you have the vaccine?

Hope symptoms stop soon

Haenow · 06/02/2021 10:16

OP is unwell and probably frightened, cut her some slack! Wish you well @BeyondAZParanoia Flowers

MoonlightFlitwick · 06/02/2021 10:52

hi OP, how are you doing now?

BeyondAZParanoia · 06/02/2021 11:09

Last night I was told by the a&e doctor, after it was suggested by my GP, that it looked like TM, and I needed an mri and lumber puncture in the morning (today).

This mornings doctor completely disagreed with the last shift’s one and sent me home with no tests. Said I need to get a referral to neurology as he has no clue what it is.

I’ve had no sleep, and I’m in a lot of pain separate to this problem. I’m not going to comment further right now in case I get further told off for being rude.

BeyondAZParanoia · 06/02/2021 11:15

This is not the first time that this has happened (having later doctors give the complete opposite opinion to multiple earlier doctors, and send me on my merry way without actually testing for what the earlier doctor said it was).
So to say I’m upset by it is quite an understatement.

That's a pretty unsatisfactory result for you, OP. I hope you can get some rest today. Please do update us again.

Bornlazy · 06/02/2021 11:56

That's rubbish for you OP but please don't lose heart. First thing Monday morning contact your GP and ask for a referral. Don't give up.

This thread could cause unnecessary worry for people going for a vaccine. OP minimises others’ side effects and yet magnifies his/her own increasingly. Reading it back, it just spirals over 7 days now since vaccination with OP ultimately stating they think they have the rarest known - and unproven - side effect.

Rubbish. The OP has clearly stated this thread is about HER issues, not anyone else's. She is more than entitled to seek others opinions without bearing in mind the hundreds of people who 'might' get worried.

DianaT1969 · 06/02/2021 13:01

Hi OP, hoping you feel better soon. On the back of another thread, can I ask if you take vitamin D supplements in winter?
I know it isn't the answer to your health problems, but on another thread, autoimmune conditions were exacerbated by being deficient.

You've put this better than I could
Bornlazy · 06/02/2021 13:38

I really dislike people trying to shut down anyone who tries to discuss anything less than positive about the vaccines. If I was anxious about having the vaccine I wouldn't read a thread about rare side effects and I certainly wouldn't expect people not to start one incase it put me off.

The OP isn't saying that what's happened to her will happen to anyone else, in fact at the start of the thread she states that she has a host of conditions that probably make her unique.

Queenelsarules · 06/02/2021 13:49

I'm unhappy with the pile on going on this thread. The op is ill and worried, no one was forced to click on or contribute to the thread. They stated that they are autistic, as am I. Just because her responses don't conform to your expectations does not mean she is ungrateful, undeserving of support or rude. I really hope op gets some resolution soon.

trulydelicious · 06/02/2021 16:29

OP whatever the issue you are experiencing is (related to the vaccine or not) the consultants need to get to the bottom of it, not fob you off. Perhaps it's a good idea as someone suggested to ask on Monday (assuming it can wait till then)

Doctors disagreeing is very common, by the way. Don't think it's your fault. They need to give you a proper answer

BeyondAZParanoia · 08/02/2021 10:52

I’ve said all along that it could be a complete coincidence that it came on after my jab. Tbh with hindsight a general health thread might have been better than one specifically referring to the vaccine, but it’s a new vaccine and it’s not a huge leap that an illness that comes on after it is a side effect.

Anyway, spoke to the doctor this morning and I’m being referred to neurology. It’s no better, but no worse either.

Puddymuddle · 25/02/2021 15:05

OP how are you now? X

BeyondAZParanoia · 25/02/2021 18:27

Thanks for asking :)

It's no different, not at its worst but the numbness is still in the "outsides" of both my hands and feet, along with the outer toes. The various pains are also still there. It's bearable though, while I wait to see the neurologist. Just weird! Grin

In a weird coincidence, DW is currently suffering from carpal tunnel - so neither of us have two full hands

I hope you get answers soon.

Hi, I had my first dose of Astra Zeneca on Sunday 11.30am. By 7pm I was experiencing numbness in my left arm and leg and pins and needles in my left hand. I reported it to the yellow card system. I also called my doctors the next morning. Doctor dismissed my concerns and said it was unrelated. I didn’t have a temperature or feel ill. I had the jab in my right arm. I’ve been dizzy a few times if I stand quickly. Also had a few sharp pains to the chest. I haven’t had any previous neurological problems or have any underlying health problems. The numbness has calmed down but I can still feel a dull ache and some numbness off and on to my left arm which is slightly worrying.
