Anyone past caring if they get this wretched virus anymore?

I don't want to catch it and will follow all rules, but i'm thoroughly beaten down by it all now. Day after day, week after week, month after month with nothing to look forward to and nothing but misery, death and destruction everywhere on the news.

When things eventually open up a bit, hopefully not long after Easter, i'm going to live my live again as much as I can this summer, even if it means I might get the virus. I want to see my elderly relatives once they've had the second vaccine dose. A foreign holiday is out of the question this year and even concerts and festivals are a pipe dream at the moment, but something simple like a drink in a pub feels like paradise.

I may not get the vaccine until late summer or Autumn, but i'm not just going to write off another summer, when we'll be in for another grim winter (at least weather wise).

This isn't living.

I definitely don't want that shitty virus again. Floored me for weeks, DH still isn't 100% better and he was I'll in November (fit 40 year old). Fouar acquaintances have now died from it. 2 friends with very long covid. Fuck that

Jeremyironseverything · 30/01/2021 10:36

The side effects of long covid or death, worry me more than the side effects of a vaccine.

I've had covid, don't want to catch it again and certainly don't want to spread it and be responsible for its effects on others.

majesticallyawkward · 30/01/2021 10:36

We had to get tested at the start of the week and while dh was freaked out I was pretty relaxed. If we get it we get it at this point.

Tests were negative and turned out the baby, who was the cause of the tests, has some other virus- possibly hand, foot and mouth and DH has a cold. Baby is still pretty unwell, which means i haven't slept much this week and that added to the endless hopelessness of lockdown and constant doom and gloom news is really affecting me.

I don't understand anyone refusing the vaccine BeCaUsE SiDe EfFeCtS when the reported side effects are rare and mild, compared to reports of long Covid. Surely possibly feeling a bit gritty after the vaccine is negligible, and the batshit 'oh but we don't know what will happen in 10 years' being paraded by the conspiracy theorists is crazy

TheChip · 30/01/2021 10:36

I am past caring. I really am. If I get it and it wipes me off the face of the earth, then so be it.

Beamur · 30/01/2021 10:38

I don't want to get it. Several of my friends parents have died from this.
I know quite a few people (front line workers and NHS staff) that have had the vaccination and are fine, slightly sore arm for a day but nothing bad.
I'll be getting the jab when offered it. I'd prefer to take the lower risk of a vaccine than the higher risk of an infection.

Jocasta2018 · 30/01/2021 10:38

I don't want to get the virus just because it seems that you just can't guarantee how it's going to pan out! Yes I know you can get Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome, ME, etc after a bout of flu but long Covid just seems a bit new & unknown.
I'm not vulnerable & consider myself healthy. I'm not panicking or being neurotic about it, would just prefer not to have it - or if I do have it, It's mild!

PregnantGotCovid · 30/01/2021 10:38

I've got it right now. Caught it despite being incredibly cautious. I'm still unwell and unable to work a few weeks down the line.

But it's not about me. It's about the bigger implications on our health service, other public services and our economy if the virus isn't controlled in some way.

I work in the NHS (front line but not covid front line). We have so many people off sick that it's getting very difficult to maintain the normal level of service to our patients. We have longer waiting lists that normal. And this is happening across puic services. We all need to do our bit to stop the spread, as things are already so bad even with the lockdown.

Unsure33 · 30/01/2021 10:39

Reports out in Italy today show that about 25% can have long term health affects after catching the virus .

So I will try and avoid it as much as possible .

I have also lost members of my family to the virus so even more reason.

Ch3rish · 30/01/2021 10:39
@Ch3rish really? You might want to update your tetanus.
Really?

Wouldnt my surgery contact me if that was necessary, is that a routine thing? Obviously I won't trouble them with that now but I've been at the same doctors for over 20 years and it's never been raised.

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 30/01/2021 10:40

@southeastdweller
I understand being concerned about the vaccine. But I do find it very interesting the psychology of risk. Both vaccine and virus have a risk but the vaccine risk is very very much lower than the risk of long covid or death.
I've had the vaccine now and was fluey for about 3 days. It was no even slightly as bad as one day ill with Covid

bathsh3ba · 30/01/2021 10:41

I'm not particularly worried about me or my children getting it but I wouldn't want to pass it on to the vulnerable. Once they are vaccinated, I will be going out and socialising as much as the law allows.

Unsure33 · 30/01/2021 10:43

@southeastdweller

Umm you do realise that nearly all of Europe is in the same position ?

And other countries like the USA ?

Or are you just conveniently ignoring that fact .

LetItGoGo · 30/01/2021 10:43

Oh I would take the vaccine. I have seen any pneumonia takes a lot of getting over.

But I'm not likely to get vaccinated any time soon.

I'm not really worried about my children but I am worried that if I get it I might not be able to work and have any money coming in. They are old enough not to fend for themselves but not on reduced money.
Cornettoninja · 30/01/2021 10:46

@Ch3rish I’d ask about it next time the opportunity arose. I’m clumsy enough that I’ve had it through various injuries but I’m always asked if it’s up to date.

If you’ve been pregnant in the last few years and had the whooping cough vaccine it’s in with that anyway I believe.

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 30/01/2021 10:46

We don't break any rules but I'm sick of it now, most of my mat leave was in lockdown, DD has missed out on so much, we were supposed to be having a UK break in March to get her away for a bit but that's going to be cancelled, there's just nothing to look forward to and I'm sick of it. There's no end in sight, I do wonder at what point in our lives we're going to be able to live without restrictions.

I'll look into it, thank you

No injections the last time I was pregnant either, are you in England?
Maybe my docs are a bit rubbish

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 10:49

Following the rules and wouldn’t want to get it

But if things are more relaxed in summer and school in it’s possible I’ll get it before vaccine, as I’m not in priority groups.

frozendaisy · 30/01/2021 10:50

I thought "fuck it I will take my chances with the virus" last year, but the promise of a vaccine has changed that to, "oh god don't want it now!"

“The side effects of long covid or death, worry me more than the side effects of a vaccine.

I've had covid, don't want to catch it again and certainly don't want to spread it and be responsible for its effects on others.“

Clare Gerada said during an interview yesterday that long Covid left her with muscle pain for months. She had it in March and is just getting back to her usual health now.
I momentarily imagined flu type aches until she said at times it was so desperate she would rather have had her legs amputated than continue with the pain.

I imagine lots of people don’t realise how awful long Covid seems to be.

samanthawashington · 30/01/2021 10:52

I'm isolating because my bubble has a positive case, and I am at the stage of not giving a FF anymore. I think I'm just worn out trying to avoid catching it, following all the rules and living with the constant low level anxiety. I think it's more I'm resigned to getting it before even a sniff at a vaccine. I'm not high risk but not low either

samanthawashington · 30/01/2021 10:53

@southeastdweller

I don't give a fuck and certainly won't be getting the vaccine (I've been offered it already).

Welcome to Boris's Britain of 2021, everyone - fucked for many years to come.

Wow! Does Boris moonlight in a Chinese wet market?

donerwillbehere · 30/01/2021 10:57

Yes I am fed !! I would love to go to a restaurant have some lovely food , drinks and company of friends or family.

I recently was in hospital having a procedure . The staff were wonderful, caring supportive . Having chatted with them they were tired, fatigued and had lost colleagues to this nasty virus 🦠. They are worried as they said there is no rhyme or reason as how this virus attacks your body .

I just don't want to be the one that doesn't recover .

So I and my family are following guidelines and keeping safe .

I will be having the vaccine when I am offered it fingers crossed soon . I am teacher the thought of teaching face to face somewhat concerns me .

So yes I dream of better days . They are coming for now , baton down the hatches and keep safe X

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 10:57

Lol at Samantha

I’m surprised at pp refusing vaccine. Esp as would be HCP or high risk group.

ineedaholidaynow · 30/01/2021 10:58

For those refusing to have the vaccine will you change your mind if it becomes mandatory for travel etc
