Yes all the remainers who were crying about their Italian retirement plans and FOM have gone very quiet haven't they.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 29/01/2021 22:17

@Pimlicojo

It's a shame if this thread becomes a leavers/remainders argument.

I voted to remain in the EU but I'm truly shocked by this. Utterly despicable behaviour by the EU.

No I think it’s more of an ‘EU have behaved really badly’ moment by the majority of remainers and leavers. Also allowing the leavers to say “see we aren’t all racist thickos, there are serious issues with EU and we didn’t want to be a part of it”.
DeRigueurMortis · 29/01/2021 22:19

Sky news reporting the EU has revoked its decision on Article 16.

Love how Sky haven't reported Ireland's reaction?

Guylan · 29/01/2021 22:23

@PicsInRed

This is what Brexiters always saw - this is what the EU really are and how they always regarded the UK. They were wearing the abuser's mask all along, every once in a while it slipped...now they've taken it right off and gone to war. It's ugly thank goodness they're so fucking inept theyll lose again.
I find this unsettling, competitive language so depressing and ugly. The U.K. placed a series of export restrictions last year on around 100 medicines that could be used to treat COVID-patients, so horses for courses.

EU unlucky too yield at Astra Zeneca Belgium plant lower than hoped. They are now trying to protect their citizens just as our U.K. govt do. Will all be sorted out eventually . No need for nationalistic ugly rhetoric in the meantime.

Finally, am am grateful UK have organised a good supply of vaccines at the moment compared to many countries

MGMidget · 29/01/2021 22:23

Porcupine, wouldnt the EU have been in a stronger position to force us to pool our supply of vaccine though? And I doubt we would have avoided participating in the EU vaccine programme altogether if we hadnt been leaving the EU. There would have been a lot of political pressure to be part of it.

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 29/01/2021 22:23

This is a seriously insane turn of events. Very 2021.

bellinisurge · 29/01/2021 22:23

@DreamyDreamer333 what are you on about?
And yes I'm fucking livid with the EU

Defaultname · 29/01/2021 22:24

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

It's one product that is already available.

We can't get batteries and loads of other stuff posted here from GB, that makes more impact on my life than this.

I think than England made this mess mostly and we're having to put up with the shit show they created so I don't have much sympathy for their government not being able to bring vaccines in by using us as a back door.

I'm in England. Every time I send off a parcel to anywhere in the UK, I'm asked if there are any batteries in the parcel. This began a few years ago). If you're in Ireland, I'm sorry if it impacts on your life, but the situation would be the same if you were in the UK or anywhere else in the world. It has nothing whatever to do with leaving the organisation.
Motherdare · 29/01/2021 22:25

EU showing their true colours.

Mypostinghistorys · 29/01/2021 22:25

Grin at the remainer retreat to the brexit board

FOJN · 29/01/2021 22:25

We would be in exactly the same position if we hadn’t left vis a vis vaccines as we were at liberty to procure our own which we could have done.

You do know that Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands had a preliminary agreement with AZ in June last year but the Commission stepped in and took control of the vaccine negotiations to prevent individual countries making their own arrangements. The contracts were then not signed until the end of August.

EU countries are only able to independently procure vaccines from suppliers the EU has not signed contracts with. Hungary has purchased the Sputnik vaccination from Russia. The commission also decided to control allocation of vaccines so individual countries had no control over the rate of supply.

The commission has also overlooked Germany purchasing an additional 30 million vaccines, from Pfizer, for their own use. This undermines their authority and integrity and makes them look like hipocrites.

JengaJanga · 29/01/2021 22:25

AFTER A WARNING FROM US.....

They have withdrawn plans to control the exports !!!

Dongdingdong · 29/01/2021 22:27

We would be in exactly the same position if we hadn’t left vis a vis vaccines as we were at liberty to procure our own which we could have done. In fact we would have likely been better off as there would be more cooperation.

Also we wouldn’t be facing economic disaster at this already horrendous time.

Hahaha you keep believing that. But hey, like you say - thank goodness the EU have backtracked on “art 15” Hmm

Chickenqueen · 29/01/2021 22:29

Oh my gosh the drama!

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 29/01/2021 22:30

I've seen for years that the Eu is not capable of protecting or caring for people within its borders and it was the tragic Bataclan attacks that really drummed that home and the reactions on the night of the French president and EU commissioner.

www.spiegel.de/international/europe/following-the-path-of-the-paris-terror-weapons-a-1083461.html

"How EU Failures Helped Paris Terrorists Obtain Weapons
Where did the weapons used in the 2015 terror attacks in Paris come from? Files from the ongoing investigation now make it possible to follow the trail. Years of EU shortcomings helped the firearms on their way."

the EU paid no attention to how live weapons could be transformed into alarm weapons: guns that could still shoot, even if only blanks. Yet it was exactly this category of weapon that was much more interesting for terrorists and other criminals, as the 2015 attacks show

In October 2013, just a month after the Slovakian warning, a European Commission report noted that law enforcement authorities in the EU were concerned that "alarm guns, air weapons and blank-firers are being converted into illegal lethal firearms." The Commission, the report stated, was aware of "significant differences in deactivation standards between Member States" and that homicides had been committed using such weapons. The report concluded that it was necessary to "evaluate the necessity of legally binding common standards for the whole EU."

The report came fully five years after the 2008 Firearms Directive, yet virtually nothing had been done.

when it comes to EU security, the principle costs human lives. The freedom of movement for persons and goods becomes laxity, laxity becomes carelessness and carelessness becomes deadly risk

So again - yet again we are looking at Eu laxity and carelessness and it becomes a deadly risk. Again....

PicsInRed · 29/01/2021 22:30

No need for nationalistic ugly rhetoric in the meantime.

The EU quite literally were the ones who did that will their threats of asset seizures, a trade war, and a hard border in NI/ROI.

DasPepe · 29/01/2021 22:31

I love it how suddenly everyone is pro-Leave and criticizing how people could have made decisions “and not realize the consequences”.

Suddenly everyone is an effing expert on Articles and legal details. The vitriol is giving off fumes.
It’s like people are just set to be angry at whatever is set by their media. UK being fed one version, Germany another.

Everything is a comparison “ are we doing it better” down to body count.

There is a lot EU does that is great and a lot it done which is not.
Same with ANY government. But this sudden “oh i knew EU was just a bully” like it’s Gareth from the 5th glass braking your nose for lunch money.
It’s lot one person! And by saying EU is a bully, you’re saying UK is a victim. Oh yes poor Boris! And Prithi Patel - oh yes, look at her welcoming HK citizens (whilst booting out Windrush victims). Oh yes poor then. In fact I don’t understand why Cummings had to go, he should have tested his eyesight, in fact now that I think about it, I can see why he would have driven all that way. . .

RickiTarr · 29/01/2021 22:31

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

IcedPurple

Not really no. Based on the assumption that I wouldn’t put it past the English government to do exactly what the EU are afraid of.

Unlike a hard border, it doesn’t change anything in reality.

What’s this “English government” of which you speak?
DreamyDreamer333 · 29/01/2021 22:32

@Bellinsurge i'm sure your well aware of all the shit that has been directed at leavers over the past few months, including being responsible for people losing FOM, retirement plans and causing instability in Ireland over a no deal Brexit! Oh the irony!

BooTheCar · 29/01/2021 22:33

I'm sorry. Can someone explain to me what this means? I have no idea what it all means!

bellinisurge · 29/01/2021 22:34

So?

Toptotoeunicolour · 29/01/2021 22:35

My God, even Boris doesn't U turn that quickly Grin

bellinisurge · 29/01/2021 22:35

That was to @DreamyDreamer333 who thinks we all have fucking retirement homes in Tuscany. No, @DreamyDreamer333 , it just shows how fucking delicate this situation is and how easily it is for lazy thinking idiots to cock it up
