Ireland will do anything to not align with the UK, despite having an entire economy and pop culture based on the UK's. It has essentially become a vassal state to the EU and a tax haven.
I don't think that's true - Ireland has tried to remain on good terms with the UK. But if you're in the EU of course you're going to assume that being part of a big trading bloc would be an asset in procuring vaccines etc. The UK government has done a brilliant job in securing vaccinations and getting the population protected but don't lose sight of the fact that it's all a huge gamble - that the vaccines work, that they're safe, that they're effective. So far, three for three, thanks to absolutely brilliant scientists here. But I think it's a reflection of being prepared to take chances with people's health in the same way that they were prepared to lift lockdowns etc to help the economy. On one side it has worked, on the other it's been a disaster, but it's the same attitude.
I generally just think it's unhelpful to view it in national or post-Brexit terms and we should all be viewing this as a global challenge, and trying to lend support where we can as when countries sent doctors and nurses to help in badly afflicted places. I do wonder about the noises coming from the EU at the moment. I'm fiercely pro-Europe and I have no idea what they're playing at.
