But it does only say best effort. EU really are bullies

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 11:55

it also says that the factories in the uk would be used to fulfil those BRE and what eu is blaming is that they're not being given the bre because they're been given to the uk instead .

in this place I'm not sure who is to blame whether eu or az tbh. if az has got in contract with the uk that only the factories in the uk are for the uk then they've signed with 2 different places something that is opposite

PicsInRed · 29/01/2021 12:05

Doesn't common sense dictate that some EU supply may be produced in the UK eventually (and in any of their factories), but this is subject to operational requirements (e.g. maintenance, other contracts)?

Only a galloping fool would presume that the EU would receive any fixed percentage (100% Hmm) of one country's supply at any given time?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 12:13

But the point being one is best possible efforts. If a contract has already been signed allocating those vaccines you cant expect a company to break a previous contract.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 12:15

Its fairly shocking to think that the EU expect Aztrazeneca to break a previous contract to suit them. Do they only respect contract law when it suits them?

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 12:15

EU media has been reporting tho that the EU doses have gone to the UK hence why there is the shortage for them now. UK reported had received some from Brussels? but it was 4m if so... EU is saying they've 70m less and want them to come out of the uk

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 12:17

Doesn't matter where is was produced.

If one contract, signed first, says you have to supply x number of doses, Aztrazeneca have a legal obligation to fulfil that. The EU are expecting Aztrazeneca to break that to supply "best efforts"

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 12:19

What are 'EU doses'?

Britain signed its contract 3 months before the EU.

Britain approved the vaccine 5 weeks ago and has already administered millions of doses. The EU STILL hasn't even got around to approving it, yet alone administering it.

Is the EU suggesting that millions of doses should have been left to sit uselessly in fridges, rather than potentially saving lives in Britain?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 12:21

Totally team Aztrazeneca

midgedude · 29/01/2021 12:21

Are you saying the eu expected doses to be held for them for if and when they approve its use ???

CrotchBurn · 29/01/2021 12:23

Do we have any lawyers/legal professionals here who can give their opinion?

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 12:27

@IcedPurple this is eu media (not my saying) , I'm Spanish so I'm getting from friends what the media is saying over there.

What eu media (Spain) is saying is that AZ is not giving them their 100m doses because they've been sent somewhere else. they were meant to be sent by end of Q1 but a s they're now in someone else's arms AZ can't fulfil their agreement of BRE with EU.

Again not my opinion b ut what I keep being blamed of by sspanissh friends

The 'somewhere else' they were sent to is Britain, a client whose contract takes precedence over the one signed 3 months later with the EU.

And it seems the AZ contract makes reference to 'best efforts', so the EU really hasn't got a leg to stand on.

Baileysforchristmas · 29/01/2021 12:30

The EU are still demanding the UK hand over the vaccines, it’s in theGuardian, the EU still seem to think the contract is in their favour?
