To take dc for routine dental check up?

I am wondering if it is wise to do so at the moment? They haven't been to the dentist in over a year and so this would be a routine check up. They have no problems as far as I know. However, not sure, if it ought to just wait. DC are 4 and 8.

Yes take them. I took mine this week and it was fine - the practice was very, very, very stringent and safe. Life must still go on during the pandemic - teeth are important and issues could go undetected if you don’t take them.

cannotchange · 28/01/2021 21:36

Go - mine haven't been for over a year and one of them now has a massive cavity and may have to have a surgical extraction

We went over the Christmas break and it was all fine. There are limited numbers in the waiting area and we were seen on time. Our dentist and assistant put on a different mask when using the equipment to scale and polish on mine. I'm glad we went.

I took 1 of my DC today as he's started losing milk teeth and I felt like his bigger teeth coming through looked a bit strange. I've been getting endless emails from the company saying 'don't come in, ppe costs us loads, only emergencies' but when I rang up to ask for advice it wasn't like that at all, the receptionist said it's best to get checked. The place was clean and quiet, they only had us in plus 2 other patients leaving as we entered. After the exam the dentist said DC is currently fine but he wants to get back on track with check ups so to make him another appt in 4 months and get my youngest in to be seen as well. So seems like the big bosses are saying one thing, but the staff themselves do want to see their patients.

If you can get a normal check up, get it.
Only emergency treatment is in place at my dentist. I went complaining about a tooth. They told me the pain im feeling could be caused by two seperate teeth close together.
I had to pick which one I thought was causing me the worst pain, because they are only able to deal with one tooth at a time.
I obviously picked the wrong tooth, because it still causes me grief lol.

My dentist isn't open for routine check ups....had one booked for dd in Nov. which was obviously cancelled. If you can I would.

SonnetForSpring · 29/01/2021 07:32

I have taken mine recently. I think it's an important check up to have.

SeahorseoramI · 29/01/2021 07:32

Well done in getting an appointment, op! That’s an amazing achievement. Mine doesn't even answer the phone.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/01/2021 07:36

Why wouldn't you go, if you can?

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/01/2021 07:39

I have and it was fine. They hadn’t seen their dentist for over a year so I was supremely grateful for the appointment.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2021 07:41

I wish mine could. Why are some open and some not?

Ridingthegravytrain · 29/01/2021 07:44

Mine text me this week to remind me I’m due a check up and they are open etc. So I’ve booked an appt. definitely go

HappyFlamingo · 29/01/2021 07:50

Yes, I'd take them. I've taken mine for a routine check up plus several orthodontist visits since the start of all this. Good safety measures are in place.

megletthesecond · 29/01/2021 07:57

I would go. A year is long time for kids to not see a dentist.

I did move mine back by 6 weeks to March, but I'd already had a hygienist last Oct so I'm not overly concerned.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 29/01/2021 08:01

Mine have been, and I'm glad we did. It had been over a year like you and a problem was identified in my DD that could have caused issues if left.

Coconuts2020 · 29/01/2021 08:08

Yes go - mine now have tiny cavities I didn’t spot developing until it was too late. I am devastated!

madasamarchhare · 29/01/2021 08:21

Yes definitely go. We went last week, they haven’t been in 18 months as check up was due just after first lockdown. Rules were strict but fine. Dentist was so so thorough in light of the fact they haven’t been in so long and everything was fine. But I was worried as it’s been so long and they’ve probably had a few more sweet treats than normal!

Ilovewillow · 29/01/2021 08:39

I would go - teeth are important. My daughter has been going to orthodontist- she had a brace fitted literally just before lockdown 1 and had already missed several appointments before they opened again. She will have to wear it for an extra period of time now. Whenever we have been they have been fantastic really well set up. Our dentist has always worn a certain amount of PPE so all very professional.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/01/2021 08:46

I would make the appointment.

I've just booked DS(6) for next week. I didn't think they were open for routine appointments, but they sent me a reminder that he hasn't been seen for a year and asking me to book it.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/01/2021 08:48

I did because they'd been out of school for a fortnight, so no risk to the dental staff & the dentist sent the reminder, so they obviously wanted them to go. I figured it would help at the other end of this if they weren't trying to play catch up with routine checks. More appointments available for those in need.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/01/2021 08:50

15 yo missed some orthodontist appointments in the first lockdown down, but has been regularly since they reopened. She's having to wear her brace longer as the opened up too much in the first lockdown, so now they're having to close the gaps up, but fortunately no major problem.

theonlywayisup33 · 09/02/2021 16:29

Thank you- we had to reschedule the appointment but we are going in a couple of days.

I would I haven’t been able to go to the dentist since before the first lockdown, ours is only speaking to people on the phone!!! Unless in extreme pain they won’t do routine work.

crispyy · 09/02/2021 16:41

I went recently as I was overdue. I was nervous but it was fine - and two weeks later I don’t have any Covid symptoms!

BogRollBOGOF · 09/02/2021 17:33

We went last weekend. I last had an emergency appointment 20th March as a large filling had broken. Glad it went that week not the following week! The DCs were last seen Oct '19.

The dentist was well protected. He had a sealed, vented visor that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie with a tiuch of Hell Boy Grin
