Are your case rates currently higher or lower than pre tier 4?

Just that really!

We went into tier 4 on Boxing Day and our case rate has now come down to the same level.

I see this as hope. I also know they kept rising until the lockdown in Jan and so we need to stick at this.

But case rates dropping alongside the vaccine programme is looking more positive than 2 weeks ago when they thought we may need even tougher restrictions.

@PurpleWh1teGreen

My real concern is that the rate is 300:100,000 in our district and there are 200 districts with worse rates. I'm not sure that enough people understand quite how bad things still are.

I wonder if they have either forgotten their true rates at the end of December. or have perhaps misunderstood the data.

And yet there are 100,000 reasons to keep following the rules.

I think we might have just got used to the bigger numbers. You don’t really think about how bad 100/100k is you’ve been used to looking at 400-500/100k.

It didn’t really help that they missed out ‘low levels of Covid’ on the tier system and started with tier 1 being moderate.

At MSOA level ours are lower but they jump up and down a lot. There’s a lot of care Homes and if one of them gets an outbreak, it suddenly jumps up quite a lot.

Looking overall in England

142 councils currently with a higher rate than on 27 Dec

We had that post Christmas case surge so:

14 councils currently have a higher rate as compared with their position on 3rd January

To add a smidgen of reality

295 councils have a current higher rate than they had at the end of the November lockdown. The ones lower are mainly in Kent; Lincolnshire and Devon with a few oddities such as Stoke, Calderdale and Scarborough

253 have a higher current rate as compared with their position at the start of the November lockdown.

And if we wanted a real reality check at the end of august just 30 councils had a 7 day rate greater than 25 cases per 100,000; just 7 a rate over 50 and none over 100. The worst council at end august had a rate of 75 (Pendle).

Hi folks - I have updated the table on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage if anyone wants to check the daily cases or rate per 100K in their council (or any other council in England for that matter!)

Hope everyone is safe and well and surviving this lockdown

Passthebubbly · 29/01/2021 17:37

Lower. We were at 450 when we went to tier 4 on 20th December. Went up to 850 and now 315.
