The Express reports:
"No indication has been given as to why the briefing has suddenly been called, however, it comes less than 24 hours after false reports in the German media caused alarm by claiming the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine was ineffective among over-65s."

It could also be to make the announcement about hotel quarantining for those entering the country. I would imagine both subjects.

Yes, we are a travel hub, which only brings us pollution, noise, viruses and not much else.

It might be time to rethink that.

MercyBooth · 26/01/2021 22:55

Unless E.on pull their finger out and sort out the security breach thats causing pre pay customers electric to be cut off, a lot of people will have to break lockdown and move in with relatives

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 22:55

@Miljea how condescending you are when someone has a difference of opinion to you as in their eu vote. Quick to criticise but not acknowledge that securing vaccine and doses we have given is an achievement , half doses have been explained and it makes sense why they are doing this .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 22:56

@ChardonnaysPetDragon I think it benefits us hugely financially

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 22:57

How?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 22:57

@ChardonnaysPetDragon you really think we do it for any other reason than money ?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 22:58

@ChardonnaysPetDragon how many people are employed by airports ? Taxes are paid by airlines , I am not going to look up all the figures . You don't go building new runways with no profit in it

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 22:59

Have you seen how much Heathrow pays in taxes? It’s pennies compared to what their Spanish shareholders get, and that’s before you take into consideration what it costs the U.K. taxpayers for the infrastructure that supports it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:01

People are employed everywhere,
Most other industries are suffering too. Doesn’t make the aviation industry some special,

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:02

@ChardonnaysPetDragon its still a lot and have you seen how many people it employs where do you propose they all work, it also has knock on effects on raising money.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:02

No. It’s not a lot, it costs more in infrastructure costs and health care for the problems they cause.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:03

@ChardonnaysPetDragon ok where is your source for this then ?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:04

@ChardonnaysPetDragon where do you think all the people should work then as well or as you are not one of them does that not matter ?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:05

@ChardonnaysPetDragon what infrastructure costs do you mean?
You also realise hotels get revenue , more jobs , more taxes .

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:06

Also, the airlines are subsidised by the tax payer because there is no tax on aviation fuel.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:06

@ChardonnaysPetDragon not to forget the aerospace industry , freight .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:09

@ChardonnaysPetDragon there is other taxes though and reason why there isn't tax on aviation fuel.
Please show me your source where you state being an intl
Hub costs us more than we make ??

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:09

yes, hotels do get revenue, but not from hubs.

Hubs are just interchanges. They don’t bring tourism and money.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:11

We are talking about hubs, not freight that’s coming into the country.

There us plenty of information, look it up. It makes interesting reading.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:12

@ChardonnaysPetDragon often people stay a night though its not all same direct flight same day .
You really think no goverment would if stopped it if we didn't benefit from it

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:13

@ChardonnaysPetDragon but flights coming in keeps freight prices down . If one flight a week space would be expensive 7 flights then space is cheaper .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 26/01/2021 23:15

@MercyBooth so different people , different opinions. Its a combination of all , we can't pretend rule breaking on a large scale doesn't have negative effects as well.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:15

Oh please, staying a night in a cheap airport side hotel does not the economy make.

Also, the flight schedule make this not something that’s necessary.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/01/2021 23:16

You do understand what a hub airport is, no?
