They're all a bit short notice aren't they? We used to find out earlier in the afternoon.

@PuzzledObserver

It’s been announced that 78.7% of over 80’s have now received at least their first dose, which is brilliant. I wonder how the remaining 21.3% break down between got an appointment/yet to be contacted/declined.
My Nan is one of them. She is housebound (has carers coming in three times a day) and the GP only has supplies of Pfizer. No one can tell us how she will be able to get vaccinated.
MagicSummer · 25/01/2021 18:11

The briefing was announced before lunchtime today. They seem to be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays now. I thought Matt Hancock gave a very good briefing - he even had a little smile at the end. He sounds sensible and seems to empathise with people. (I also find him very attractive!!)

CoronaIsWatching · 25/01/2021 18:16

I wouldn't mind a go on Grant Schapps

Yohoheaveho · 25/01/2021 18:21

@52andblue

I read that too *@Oblomov20*

MH seems half decent compared to the rest.
In over his head, always looks about to cry, and I can't get that creepy video of him standing way too close to the female MP out of my head.

I agree, wouldnt you need to be about 25ft tall though to not be in over your head? Appearing about to cry is a least appropriate, compared to bojos dismissive waffle and pritti's sneering slang talk
MarinPrime · 25/01/2021 18:29

cavemums I love that video Grin. It makes me almost like MH, and I'm no fan of Tory politicians.

I felt the same when I saw the pictures of him covered in mud with his son, playing rugby. He seems the most human of the Tory senior lot.

52andblue · 25/01/2021 18:38

@Yohoheaveho
You make good points. 'Better than Johnson / Patel' is a low bar though.

mumwon · 25/01/2021 18:38

@52andblue
Grin I can see the likeness - I will never look at him the same way
(& no I don't faintly fancy him! whispers - I think some of the mn have been isolating too long!!!)

mumwon · 25/01/2021 18:40

& I think like most politicians he is expert at answering the question you didn't ask!

Viviennemary · 25/01/2021 18:47

It wasn't as waffly as the usual ones. But it didn't say much. Maybe they are just getting better at waffling.

Yep me too. Gorgeous smile.
Defenbaker · 25/01/2021 18:49

I like MH, although I think he struggles at time with public speaking, and is a little socially awkward at times. He is doing the job from hell, but he's sticking with it and trying to convey the seriousness of the situation, while also giving people hope that we will turn a corner soon. It's a tricky balancing act but he seems to be doing his best.

I don't mind Bojo, as he can be quite amusing at times, but he tends to waffle quite a lot and is rather evasive with his responses. I don't like PP, she seems to be a very hard hearted, career politician - but I know little about her... perhaps she has a kind side?

sundaysgirls · 25/01/2021 18:54

It was a member of the public that asked about herd immunity....so obviously they had to respond.

What?! A politician was asked a question and they actually answered? The first time that's happened and I missed it Angry Shock

Veryverycalmnow · 25/01/2021 18:55

Eww, I couldn't picture sleeping with a Tory. They seem to enjoy causing the suffering of working class people, so who knows what they'd enjoy in bed. Probably some sadistic moves. Eww

Yohoheaveho · 25/01/2021 18:56

I know, sorry, I should resist my childish urge to make an attack and have not even mentioned them!

StealthPolarBear · 25/01/2021 18:58

GENIUS

@midgebabe

Those numbers need to fall substantially before relaxation

What they have not said is how low they want cases and numbers in hospitals to be before they will consider relaxation

He said something about it being the R number and looking at previous places of infections and R when things are open.

I think the concern they have is opening up incorrectly will just cause more exponential growth again if numbers aren't almost down to nothing. Hence why they'll review tiers and go regional again.

I can assure you they are no different in bed than anyone else, especially if you don't realise they are a Tory beforehand. I have read about it Blush.

Agree with your first points.

I have a friend who knew PP through work. She said her public person is way nicer than her in RL and she's decapitate her own mother if she thought it would get her a promotion!

Biscoffaddict · 25/01/2021 19:04

He’s dyslexic so that might be why he sometimes struggles when reading his notes.

NapCracklePop · 25/01/2021 19:12

I always feel like he's one of those idealistic old fashioned 'compassionate conservatives' who has accidentally stumbled into this harsh rightwing version of the party and is terrified of outing himself by accidentally being nice. MH I mean.

icelollycraving · 25/01/2021 19:14

I feel so unsettled with the thought of lockdown until July Shock I am a manager in non essential retail, currently furloughed. Companies will eventually just not bother reopening, it took me a year to get this (slightly niche retail). I’ve always worked in retail, I feel a bit sick at the thought of my industry collapsing.

sadpapercourtesan · 25/01/2021 19:14

Priti Patel looks like someone who would unplug a life support machine to charge her phone.

I can't stand MH either, disingenuous weedy little creep.

I feel envious of the US right now, in that they have a leader who at least offers hope and a modicum of humanity. Which is a very odd feeling.

AgathaX · 25/01/2021 19:17

TransplantedScouser well aren't you just lovely!

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/01/2021 19:25

Is it very wrong that I’m laughing so much at this thread and wondering if there is a woman alive, perhaps even on Mumsnet, who muses about sleeping with our great and powerful leader, Boris the clown...?

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 25/01/2021 19:29

@Biscoffaddict

Is it wrong that I’ve spent best part of the last year wonder what Matt H is like in bed?

I’ll get my coat.....

Have you considered a name change? Wink
