Let's talk about side effects of vaccine- report them in yellow card- but still have vaccine as it's a life saver

So, as my title says, please have the vaccine, in whatever form, as it's is a life saver. But this is a thread about side effects and asking people to report them as it moves into CEV groups and vulnerable groups - you and I know we have conditions that respond differently and can add a few to the side effects list.

In terms of vaccine side effects and health stats, pre warned is pre armed and it won't undermine the importance of having the vaccine.

I'm a frontline health care worker and CEV . Had some mild to moderate side effect to Covid vaccine, Pfizer one , I'd take it again in a heartbeat as it is a life saver for me.

But please report your side effects over and above achy arm etc. on yellow card system if you have any - because health stats need to know

Good idea OP. I also had moderately unpleasant side effects from the Pfizer vaccine. Flu-like but with no respiratory symptoms for about 36 hours.

I kind of expected it, and am still delighted. Looking forward to my second dose.

TheDrsDocMartens · 23/01/2021 21:22

I’d read somewhere that if you’d already had Covid you’re likely to have Covid like symptoms for a day or so. Not sure how accurate that is but matched the couple of people I know who have had it.

Great idea.
I had the Pfizer on Wednesday. No side effects at all.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/01/2021 21:37

@Anonawoman

I thought you were only supposed to report unlisted side effects? If you read the leaflet a lot of side effects are listed I had a fever of 39 degrees, chills and muscle pains flu like symptoms all are listed as common or very common side effects so I didn’t yellow card.
No - you can report any. It helps inform the marketing authorisation holder about the proportion of people getting the side effects.
WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/01/2021 21:38

We didn’t yellow card ours either as they were the very common ones.

Hohofortherobbers · 23/01/2021 21:39

I had it today, sore arm but nothing else. I'm tired and ready for my bed, but I don't put that down to the vaccine necessarily

Hohofortherobbers · 23/01/2021 21:40

I had covid a year ago too if that does prove relevant

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/01/2021 21:40

We have pretty much definitely not had COVID (antibody negative during the summer) but had the side effects to the Pfizer one, and DM had Covid in November and the AZ vaccine in January with no side effects except a sore arm, so it’s not universally true.
itchyfinger · 23/01/2021 21:42

@Anonawoman you should report ALL side effects to yellow card, not just unlisted. The vaccine is still in its official trial period for another 2 years, so it's really important to submit side effects so they can collect as much data in this time.

ikeptgoing · 23/01/2021 21:43

My side effects weren't listed. They were fine and mild to moderate but I'm cev and they were more extreme, and shared link so people do report .Because that what health stats need to know even though they resolved / resolving.

Thankyou I was just asking people to make sure that people are pre armed but still have the vaccine.

The Zoe app people are also asking people to report on their experiences following vaccination.

crankyhousewife · 23/01/2021 21:46

I had the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine today and, so far, haven't had any side effects, not even a sore arm. Very surprised.

scaevola · 23/01/2021 21:47

It's important to report, especially when a vaccine is going into the general population for the first time, because they need to refine the lists of very common, common and uncommon (some might be in the wrong group at present) and also be on the look-out for any really very uncommon ones

Riddlediddle · 23/01/2021 21:48

I had mine yesterday. Now feeling very cold (literally have so many layers on and under a thick duvet and still shivering), extremely tired but also have stomach cramps and excess wind Blush

ikeptgoing · 23/01/2021 21:51

I'm glad everyone gets that I am supportive of having vaccine. And that you should report anything not already known because it is a new vaccine and it will always have a few outlier reactions- some of which might turn out to be common that they can pre warn about.

I have had a slightly unusual reaction but really it's still mild to moderate and is resolving.

I am asking people to help the health statisticians

I mentioned this in another thread about side effects. It's really important to officially document them.

I filled a report in as I had stomach cramps the day after, could have been a breakfast bap I scoffed super fast but equally might have been the vaccine.

IndecentFeminist · 23/01/2021 22:09

Had first dose of Pfizer today, all fine so far bar a really sore arm.

mejon · 23/01/2021 22:10

Thanks for this thread OP. I had the Pfizer vaccine today as there were spares at the vaccine hub I was volunteering at (and I'm very, very grateful as ordinarily I would have been in group 6 I think as an asthmatic). The vaccine site has just stated to feel a little tender and I'm on the lookout for further potential side-effects. I'll report of the Zoe app too.

Super important to document them, especially with more than one vaccine available and so much still unknown.

ikeptgoing · 23/01/2021 22:56

Thank you everybody for being so understanding. This is not covid vaccine bashing thread- I'm all for it and it's a life saver. The thread is a please report your side effects thread to help health statisticians.

As I said I had side effects, I'm ceviche so not unexpected , nothing certainly that wouldn't make me have vaccine all over again and to take my second dose

Be safe and be careful xx
