Let's talk about side effects of vaccine- report them in yellow card- but still have vaccine as it's a life saver

So, as my title says, please have the vaccine, in whatever form, as it's is a life saver. But this is a thread about side effects and asking people to report them as it moves into CEV groups and vulnerable groups - you and I know we have conditions that respond differently and can add a few to the side effects list.

In terms of vaccine side effects and health stats, pre warned is pre armed and it won't undermine the importance of having the vaccine.

I'm a frontline health care worker and CEV . Had some mild to moderate side effect to Covid vaccine, Pfizer one , I'd take it again in a heartbeat as it is a life saver for me.

But please report your side effects over and above achy arm etc. on yellow card system if you have any - because health stats need to know

Aches in muscles (arms, back etc), sickness, chills, dizziness, laboured breathing, weakness, generally feeling 'ill', tired

I've had covid so maybe that's part of why the vaccine hit me hard ...

Nat6999 · 24/01/2021 01:02

My mum had the Pfizer vaccine 3 weeks ago, she had a splitting headache, sore arm & all her Arthritis flared up for about 5 days & then she woke up one morning & it had all gone.

LuluJakey1 · 24/01/2021 01:07

I'm amazed that all of you have had the vaccine - I am presuming you are not all over 80. Are you care/NHS workers?

ADealingMummy · 24/01/2021 01:13

I had the Pfizer vaccine this morning and just a sore arm so far.
My husband had the Oxford vaccine, his temp shot up to 39.5, chills ( fully clothed, 2 duvets and a sleeping bag). He felt better the next day.
Still better than getting bad covid.

ADealingMummy · 24/01/2021 01:16

The GP said this morning they are finding more side affects with the Oxford vaccine.

NalaJayne · 24/01/2021 01:30

@Anonawoman

I thought you were only supposed to report unlisted side effects? If you read the leaflet a lot of side effects are listed I had a fever of 39 degrees, chills and muscle pains flu like symptoms all are listed as common or very common side effects so I didn’t yellow card.
An actual fever is not a common side effect. Feeling "feverish" / the same as you would if you had a fever, chills etc, is normal, but having an actual temperature isn't and the leaflet says "actually having a fever could indicate you have covid or another infection". So, if you took your temperature and it was 39 degrees then please do report that on yellow card.
crankyhousewife · 24/01/2021 02:55

I think I might have spoken too soon about being side effect free. My arm now hurts (which is neither here nor there really) but I feel generally unwell (only a little so again not a biggie) but the major thing is insomnia. I'm so wide awake it's untrue. It's like the side effects hit me and them I was wide awake. Insomnia definitely isn't listed as a side effect.

I work for the nhs which is how I got the vaccine.

Riddlediddle · 24/01/2021 07:30

I've woken up and feel rough. I can barely move my arm (expected) but i'm constipated with stomach cramps, nauseous, achy, freezing despite being wrapped up like the michelin man, got a cold and am exhausted. I will report it. Hopefully all good signs that my body is reacting to the vaccine to build an immunity x

lorelgil · 24/01/2021 07:43

I got mine yesterday and I've been so ill all night. Started with aches all over around 8pm last night which gradually got worse, had chills and of course a sore arm. Then I woke up in the night with a fever which was 39 when I checked. Hardly slept all night, but at least I know it's working I suppose

AndPeggy08 · 24/01/2021 08:41

I had the Oxford Vaccine on Thursday morning - woke up at 1am Friday with fever, chills and body aches - felt extremely unwell all day Friday but felt mainly well again by Saturday. Where I work the vast majority have had the same reaction to the Oxford jab and sickness levels are high now we are being vaccinated. Strangely, the few who haven’t suffered with side effects have already had Covid - which seems to be the opposite of what people are suggesting on here. Regardless of those side effects though, I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten the jab so early due to my job.

iVampire · 24/01/2021 08:52

I’m CEV and had my AZ jab late afternoon yesterday.

Mild side effects (most noticeable, considerable fatigue - I don’t mean tiredness, I mean that real weary to your very bones feeling)

I’ll report through Yellow Card idc, and will also be reporting to my haem team (just in case anyone is looking for side effect patterns in those with co-morbidities)

Thanks for this OP. There was a thread last week where the OP was accused of being an anti vaxxer for talking about side effects. I feel very strongly about discussions being shut down like that.

Firstly because it creates mystery and fear over the side effects. People will blow a day or two of feeling rough out of all proportion, because they weren't expecting it.

Secondly it would be wise for people to plan, if possible, for a day or two of rest if necessary.

And thirdly, because the level of education around vaccines in this country is atrocious as it is.

I have only realised this. I am no scientist or medic. But I thought everyone knew that no vaccine is 100%,that many vaccines can have unpleasant but harmless side effects, but that overall it's still worth getting them.

People seem to think a vaccine is like a lightning bolt magic pill, rather than a tool to fight infection and disease, a tool which will occasionally malfunction or get a little rusty but which essentially still works perfectly well.

People also have so little knowledge of the history of vaccines in this country, because we are so far from the days when polio or measles could wipe out half a classful of children in weeks. Many anti vaxxers, in my opinion, would not be antivax if they'd studied a little more of their history.

My husband was absolutely floored by his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. He is fit, healthy and in his thirties, though he does have a condition which could get nasty if he took covid badly - not enough to make him CEV or anything, but still.

He would get it again in a heartbeat. Lying in bed with me bringing him tea is hardly a hardship. He is absolutely fine now.

Some people in his work refused the vaccine - they are in their 50,overweight, heavy smokers. Height of foolishness in my opinion

OpheliasCrayon · 24/01/2021 08:58

@ikeptgoing

My side effects weren't listed. They were fine and mild to moderate but I'm cev and they were more extreme, and shared link so people do report .Because that what health stats need to know even though they resolved / resolving.
Can I ask what your side effects were? I'm CEV but I'm not fussed by covid, I've worked throughout and never shielded. I have extremely serious and life threatening drug reactions though so even though I've been offered the vaccine through work next week I've decided not to take it. I was fine with covid when I got it , I got it milder than my husband so I don't particularly wish to be the person that the oxford vaccine kills (I'm not making a sick joke there - my reactions are that bad and I've had 4 life threatening ones added onto drug info with the yellow card stuff that my doctors have reported ). .but you said you're were more extreme? Can I ask what?

24hours post Pfizer vaccine now, I didn't sleep well last night as sore arm woke me when I rolled onto it, had chills this afternoon and mild fever, took paracetamol, temp back up 3 hours later so took ibuprofen. Not very hungry today which is unlike me, also feel tired but as I said I had a disturbed night.

Haenow · 24/01/2021 19:57

@LuluJakey1

@LuluJakey1

I’m a social care worker but I’m also CEV.

Haenow · 24/01/2021 19:58

I had the AstraZeneca one yesterday morning. My arm is achy but I’m otherwise absolutely fine. I was quite surprised as I tend to get unwell after the flu jab.
