Do you think shutting down more would help?

I hear people all the time saying they need to shut things down more.
I. E construction, take away places etc

Would this actually work, would the government consider it do you think.

I'm on the fence really as things like construction is mainly outdoors but with certain aspects probably hard to distance etc.
I went past a large development the other day and saw just 3 wearing masks. But again may be because it's outdoors?

I can't say about take aways for example Costa because I don't use them anyway.
But I do use take away food delivery on a weekend sometimes.

And i do think it's a bit of snobbery as they aren't moaning about M and S having non essentials open for instance.

Bollss · 23/01/2021 08:32

I think it would do more harm than good.

Cases are dropping, why do we need to close more? I mean unless the aim is to increase unemployment, poverty and suicide.

Redrivershore · 23/01/2021 08:36

I think that some just want everything shut so that they can sit a home and enjoy others suffering, it's an enjoyment of others misfortune.

New cases are dropping fast. Current new infections could easily be spread within households from people who caught it before lockdown due to the lag. It's the reason why, sensibly for once, they have to give it to mid February before reviewing where we are at, the vaccinations run parallel of course but lockdown is to do mostly with infections and people in hospital which is still very high.

Why don't we just shut everything down then you can sit at home waiting for your government approved food parcel and not have any choice over what is in it? I swear some people won't be happy until we turn into China and start locking people up.

EatingAllTheCookies · 23/01/2021 10:01

I never mentioned b&m etc to be shut down. I use it occasionally it's actually the closest shop to me.
I never said to shut it all down like China.
I was asking opinions based on what people have said to me.

@SophieGiroux, The pic you posted was from Peter Westmacott, on Twitter. It's so cold, in spite of the many people there, that everyone has kept their coats on, some have hats too.

Newstalk article points out these may have been mostly travellers en route (in transit), especially to Ireland, due to there being too few direct inbound flights to Belfast/Dublin right now. In transit passengers have long been exempt from the UK travel restrictions.

I can't even tell if that's arrivals or departures, PW didn't specify in his tweet. HE WAS THERE TOO. So his business in being there must be legit reason for travel. He's not the only one with legit reason for travel.

No. It’ll precipitate protests from people who are fed up of having every little bit of joy or interest taken from them.
